Oppo Android

Two years ago, Oppo attended MWC 2017 but didn’t showcase a smartphone. Instead, the company chose to announce the world’s first dual camera with 5x zoom. Now the company is ready to go even further and is sending out media invites for its 10x lossless zoom solution. The event will take place in Beijing, China, on January 16.

The current 5x setup is essentially a 5P lens, followed by a 90-degree angular prism that directs the light to a vertically positioned camera sensor. The OIS unit is put on the other end, so it would work even when the zoom is maxed out.

Chinese sources say there is scarce information if Oppo is launching an actual market-ready smartphone or is just demoing a new technology. Since we are yet to see their phone with 5x zoom hit the shelves, the 10x introduction is likely to be on a prototype device.

You wouldn't want to choose 10x zoom in most low light situations anyway.

if not mistaken, the usage of prism to reflect light will cause the f-stop number becoming bigger, i.e. low light photography will be affected... but of course we don't know how the impact will be until proper product is out
