The Oppo R7 Plus is a 6-inch entrant in the upper segment of the midrange phablet market. Visually (and in concept) very similar to the Huawei Ascend Mate7, the smartphone relies on a high-quality FullHD AMOLED display and a mammoth 4,100mAh battery to make a name for itself.
Capacity is one thing, but transferring milliamp-hours into actual use passes through plenty of variables, and some phones put more obstacles on this path than others.
The Oppo R7 Plus starts off strong with nearly 31 hours in our 3G voice call test. This makes it the third highest ranked phone in our all-time chart, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 LTE obviously can’t pass for a phone. The Mate7 we mentioned above only does 20 hours on the same battery capacity.
We’ve seen batter efficiency in this test though. For example the OnePlus 2 has a 3,300mAh battery and is only a few minutes short of the R7 Plus’ time, as so is the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ with only 3,000mAh.

You don’t buy a 6-inch smartphone to use it for voice calls though, you buy it for the screen estate. In our web browsing trial the R7 Plus doesn’t quite produce an equally impressive result. Not that 10:39 hours is bad, it’s just nothing exceptional, and the battery capacity promises exceptional.
Back to the Mate7 for reference. Huawei’s 6-incher performs notably better in this test and post a result just short of 14 hours. The Nexus 6 only makes it through 8 hours before its battery dies, so large-screened devices are on both ends of the spectrum in web browsing.

The test that the Oppo R7 Plus truly aces is video playback. All-time second result, the 18:04 hours are a really impressive feat. The Mate7 does the same 14 hours as in web browsing, the Lumia 1520 is good for 12 and a half, more or less the same as the 5.7-inch Samsung Galaxy A8. The Nexus 6 is not in the same league with only 10 full hours.

The scores above add up to an endurance rating of 94 hours, or 2 hours less if you use 2 SIM cards at the same time. That translates into nearly 4 full days, if you use the phone for an hour each of voice calls, web browsing and video playback per day.
Our proprietary score also includes a standby battery draw test, which is not featured in our test scorecard but is calculated in the total endurance rating.
The battery testing procedure is described in detail in case you're interested in the nitty-gritties.
In the case of the Oppo R7 Plus it’s also worth mentioning that it supports the company’s proprietary VOOC fast charging tech. Part of the retail package, the fast charger and special USB cable work together to deliver up to 4A of current at 5V to the smartphone.
The battery inside is actually comprised of two separate cells, which can be charged simultaneously, thus reducing the current to each cell and keeping temperature in check. It also means that to make use of the VOOC fast charging you need both the charger and the cable, because they have additional pins, missing in your garden variety pieces. You can certainly use standard chargers and cables as well, but at the expense of speed.
