Photo of a Snapdragon 898-powered phone confirms the clock speeds of the three CPU clusters

Qualcomm Mobile hardware Rumors

Somewhere out there is a working phone with Qualcomm’s upcoming SM8450 – what has come to be known as the Snapdragon 898, the successor to the 888 (note that some have labeled it the 895 instead). The Device Info HW app is showing on the screen and confirms the configuration of the new flagship chip.

The prime core – that should be based on the Cortex-X2 – is running at 3.0 GHz. Next up are three Cortex-A710 based mid-cores clocked at 2.5 GHz and finally four efficient Cortex-A510 derived cores at 1.79 GHz. This exactly matches recent leaks.

While most flagships chips of the next generation will use a similar CPU makeup, the GPU will be unique to the Snapdragon 898. Unfortunately, we don’t know what kind of performance uplift we can expect from the Adreno 730, but architectural improvements over the Adreno 660 will be combined with improvements from the new Samsung 4 nm process (+20%, according to some rumors).

Not listed here, but the chipset should also be equipped with a X65 5G modem that has a theoretical maximum downlink speed of 10 Gbps.

Okay, but what about the phone in photo? Well, a vivo phone with the Snapdragon 898 ran Geekbench, so that is one option. However, some think that this is the Xiaomi 12 instead. There are photos of the Xiaomi 12, but they don’t exactly make it easy to tell if it’s the same phone or not.

Gary explains who refuse to share source code? Test for 5 minutes doesn't count. Already there are 1hr long stress tests built in Antutu, 3dmark, etc. IPhone is the thermal throttling champ of 2021, no arguing that...

How is the power draw? Being a milliseconds faster would not interest me if it was power hungry and battery only lasted over a half day.
