He has a defective device but lives in another country where there are no service centers. He can't go to a service center, so there's no solution to his problems.

Service centers in India & Pakistan always tell you that motherboard needs to be replaced, which is only sometimes true. It's their trick to make extra money.
Get it checked at least 2 or 3 service center. If they all say it's a motherboard issue, then you might need to opt for it.
Stop using lose power sockets & damaged chargers/cables to charge your phone. That's how you damage your phone.

Camera i... moreThe phone worked fine for me till a couple of days back when the screen went blank suddenly and i couldn't get it started by any means. The phone wasn't charging as well. So i took it to the service centre only to be told that the motherboard has been damaged and has to be replaced. This is so disheartening to see the motherboard go bad in just 13 months. I have never had any issue like this with any of my phones before.

My Realme 3 stopped working in 13 months. When i took it to the service centre they let me know that the motherboard is damaged and has to be replaced. They have told that it would cost Rs 5000 to fix the issue. Has anyone else faced this issue? I have read a few reviews on flipkart where people have raised the same issue.

Only solution to your problem is to go to Realme service center, which you say is not possible, so there's no solution for you here.
The update is fine. I only installed it yesterday, though.

I haven't experienced any "slow" moment in this phone in 1 year, so no clue what you're talking about. For me, it has only become better in 1 year.
