You think I'm an Apple fan. You also think it might bother me if my iPhone doesn't have offline maps.

Sorry, you're wrong on both counts.

Anonymous, 26 Nov 2013So you're basically saying in this online world, offline maps are essential? 2008 called.....Nope, never said anything to that effect. I am saying they are practical and convenient. There are valid scenarios when you may be offline, but need a navigation. It's not about the ultimate choice between online and offline solutions, as they prefectly complement each other. Please remember that the original argument was about how "useless" GPS is on a WiFi-only model. It's not. The only thing I am saying is that including the GPS option would make much more sense than removing it.

But I apologize -- I forgot what crowd I am speaking to. Any attempt of reasoning, if it goes against anything Apple does, is bound to fail miserably. Thank you, I'll show myself out. :)))

Anonymous, 25 Nov 2013Why would you use maps on an iPad when you're most likely to have it on your Android phone?I won't. :) That's not the point. The argument was that GPS is useless on a WiFi model. I just said that is a silly statement, and gave an example from my own experience (I don't use iAnything, so I mentioned Android). Are you saying Apple devices don't have offline maps at all? If that's the case, I am sorry to hear that... :)

One other point I'd like to bring up in this oddly less argumentative comment section is about the memory.

What sort of Flash memory does the iPad use? It's not simply about the amount of memory as Flash memory can be bought cheap, but you may not get the fastest speeds.

Memory cards operate at different levels. Sandisk for example offer different variations, like the class 10.

In Android world, there are wonderful full-blown free offline nav apps with map updates, voice guidance, etc. No need for any kind of data connection. GPS on a WiFi model is as useful as on 3G/4G.

IROCU, 24 Nov 2013No GPS (WiFi). No thank you. Rip off.Umm .. wifi model.

You use it only at home/hotspot with wifi .. what is the need for gps?

You cannot use map / google map without having an internet connection, why need gps without 3g?

You use it tethered to a 3g/4g smartphone.. why not just use your smartphone?

It limits the usability of the tablet as a gps if its only wifi..

Besides, the GPS radio is with the 3g/4g module.. thats why no gps.

And if you decide to buy a wifi model + a mifi device... wouldn't it be cheaper and better deal if you just get the 3g version instead?

Most people use tablet to browse the web, read docs, or play games. In those cases, 4:3 is better than 16:9. 16:9 is too narrow especially on a 7" screen. It's only good for watching videos.

Narrow screen and short battery life. Maybe that's the reason the price of N7 dropped.
