As was said in the review, the camera implemented by the competitors' easily trumps HTC One's camera. It is indeed not about the number of pixels, it is the sensor/lens quality and how they implement it. There are a lot of crappy phone with crappy 13mpix camera thus crappy picture quality.
I wonder though, if you pair a 13-20mpix sensor with ultrapixel camera to 'correct' the picture, will that work?
I can't understand why people here are just criticized about the camera?? is Higher megapixels means better image quality??
If I was them, I will tried the camera of this phone by myself and compare the picture with the competitors phone, and made the conclusion.
Not just criticising something based on written specs only.
You may be provoked by written specs, but if you doin' some test/experiments, the result could be different.
No offense, but it's just my opinion.
I'm not into huge phones but I will say that after all said and done this is a extremely handsome handset and cool functionality. Stunning in fact. I look forward to the One 2 mini.
rodrigo, 26 Mar 2014People.... Who critizes HTC One's camera is because have never used it... The camera is Amazi... moreI used htc one for 6 mnths and sold it for note 3. Honestly saying that htc one camera is not great.
Or dear HTC. Why why why on earth do you deliberately use ultrapix camera? You can't be forgiven for the same flop twice. I own HTC One camera and I can tell it's far from perfect. There is a clear problem with light spills and lack of contrast in low contrast situation or quiet lit scene. Images in bright sunny day against blue sky back facing sun are well delivered. If only few people complained about but common! You are aware of this problem yet you happy to cripplenew phone.
Ability to refocus image is fine addition but I doubt it will be mainstream and why it should have upper hand before sorting out main camera. My guess people will play with this feature not long before they forget about it. So I would ask my self why I need secondary camera if I can't have quality photos in the first place.
For this reason I only admire iPhone and Nokia where camera performance is consistence and plausible.
Other thing is bottom bezel. It's no brainer it takes place and everyone notice. It also makes phone longer. Think of how much our hands grown in the last 5 years and smartphone? There is degree of unbalance. Maybe smartphone manufactor should include finger extensions as standard with they new phones from now on?! I still want to use my device with one hand and hold a cup of tea in the other one.
Muthu, 25 Mar 2014Why would you want to go from a device (note 2) with excellent camera to lousy camera (HTC M8)... moreYes note 3 is the better choice.5.7 screen is great and samsung after sales service is better in india.go for note 3 with original samsung sview cover.no finger prints ...
Note 3 is the better choice for you
Can anyone please tell me if the phone screen is 5" not including the on screen buttons or do said buttons take up part of the 5" ?
They made the wrong decision with the camera hardware. Other than that, it looks okay (MUCH better than the last One) and the SD card slot is a good feature. Sony's Z2 looks better (in Black) and has a bigger screen and a better camera. No reason to get this instead of the Z2.
AnonD-247206, 26 Mar 2014I donít understand why HTC insists on this camera setup.
Itís a deal breaker! With a decent 8... moreAgreed. If the new one's camera shows better low light performance or produces less noise-prone imagies, I would not complain about lacking some pixels, but it doesn't. Are there any category that HTC's camera excels when compared to the competitions like iphone 5 or LG G2? hardly no.
'Ultrapixel'is just an 'ultra-compromise' imo.
Wonder why they are not dropping that yltrapixel camera, which doesnt seems like working as they said. Does the camera have better low light performance than the competition? No. Does it produce less noise-prone pictures? Well... cant judge yet, but the original one wasnt so good at that categore when compared to iPhone 5 or G2. Otherwise, it is quite a attrective phone.
I really like this phone, great design and specs but no way I will get a phone with just 4Mpx cam.
Yeah, I know "it is not 4Mpx, it is 4 ultrapixels and bla, bla, bla...." but let's face it, no matter how God a so called "ultrapixel" is, it is just a pixel, a dot. And at the end of the day, 4 ultrapixels are 4.000.000 dots on your picture and the competition can have 3, 4 and 5 times that. They might be some good dots on that picture but they are simply too little. No way the photo can be properly zoom in when you later see it on your computer screen.
I donít understand why HTC insists on this camera setup.
Itís a deal breaker! With a decent 8MP camera this could have been my next phone. Sorry HTC but you need to start listening to the customers! Sony Xperia Z2 for me.
HTC and their damn camera units!!! Would have been the prefect phone too.
Deal breaker for me
I love the diversity now days... you want a metal body you have htc you want glass and waterproof you have sony you want a "smarter" with removable battery and micro sd slot you have samsung ,you don't want android you have nokia if you don't want any of these and you have the money you have iphone you want security you have blackberry, quite obviously each company will try to sell devices boasting what they have over competition but you have to remember that each in the competition has something over theirs.Being a fanboy is ok as long as you dont come up with stupid things to justify your phone of choice
HTC - you gotta employ some other management, this one is clearly making some wrong desicions and it's been doing it for a loooong time. If you don't deliver a phone with more capable camera, than sorry. The times when phone cameras didn't matter much has passed and you should know better... HTC didn't ever make a phone with good camera. They have superb quality and features, but camera is fail and do not "sell" us the story that you know better for us customers what we need because we know what we want ;) If it had like ie. Galaxy S3 camera, which is 2 years old know, it would be great... C'mon that's like 8Mpx. HTC what are you thinking, change management... :)
AnonD-197520, 26 Mar 2014Sorry, Its a disappointment except for the new gesture based controls and improved battery lif... moreThe G2 is clearly better. It's cheaper, has a far better camera, has better endurance when watching videos or browsing the Internet. And 32 GB can go a long way before running out, for most people. So I don't see why would this phone sell well when there are better alternatives out there already. HTC have blown their opportunity yet again. Oh, well...
From the camera samples, it is clear that the sensor has very poor dynamic range.
SDKforLumia, 26 Mar 2014but brother, i am still disappointed with HTC one M8. All those crying on samsung plastic body... moreoh dont get me wrong...the phone has certain amount of faults for a lot of people. if bezel size is the issue, i did mention that lg has it down and right. i dont hate samsung, but you cant deny that they have the same homogenous shape and other than the the s2 and Note series, they have a tendency to lag after a couple of months of usage. look htc cant compete with a giant like samsung. where htc went wrong and what bought the company to ruin was the fact that they were half assing it and riding on the success of the 1st gen. desire range and a few other models. htc is solely a "cellphone company" and thats what they should have been good at.they brought out a whole range of devices that were sub-par but cost the same as premium devices. the only reason they sold any at all were because of the same reason people used to buy nokia's once iOS and Android were occupying the market..."its a nokia"! so people thought "its htc!" no the m8 is not The Best device, but its Among the best and to many one of the best looking. And its one of the phones that are available right now. the z2 isnt going to be out for a couple more days. So that places the m8 in a good place right now. look the z2 is not going to be the best device for too long either...something better will come and so on and so forth. Sony is a company that understood how to capture the market. started with mid level devices and captured peoples interest and trust and then introduced top shelf models and innovative ideas. their cameras were never really that awesome and screen quality didnt match those of lg and samsung...but they were good devices for many...there are those who need water proofing and those who dont. those who need screens that are 5 inches and about and those who need something compact. some prefer more processing power over build and some the opposite. the market is going to cater for everyone at one point....but as of now, from the list of devices that are available the m8 is Among the best when multiple factors are considered....not the best nor flawless...
SDKforLumia, 26 Mar 2014but brother, i am still disappointed with HTC one M8. All those crying on samsung plastic body... moreAlso sense 6.0 is so heavily optimized..that despite jut 300mah more than the m7...with bigger screen it manages to last 23 hrs longer..a WHOLE day longer...so u see it is all in the optimizarion...not to forget the z1 had a 700mah advatage ocer the m7 bit had 40% LESS..battery life..so u see the software plays a role....so actually i wud not at all be surprised to find out that the z2 has a marginal edge or perhaps even less battery life than the m8..despite its 600mah advantage....also if two phones had same battery life..the lower capacity wud charge faster... ...
