Simply, Nokia has set the benchmark in smartphone photography and other manufacturers yet to reach the level. I guess none of these companies reached the level of old Nokia N8!!!! build quality, I think HTC is close to Nokia but not better than Nokia.

Honestly, I liked the original HTC one but i sold it because of its camera. I never took my phone out to take pictures because of its resolution.

I was really hoping that HTC would have done something different this time around but I guess not. Battery life is another concern for me since I'm using a note 3 now.

I guess I will wait for note 4 or maybe even a LG G3 before I make my move since I buy unlocked phones straight out.

S5 and the all new HTC one are both the biggest disappointments of the year. Z2 has been the only good phone of 2014 so far..

Too bad that camera sucks again, at the moment i see no valid reason to replace my m7 with m8. I was really hoping that those rumors regarding 16mp camera were true as i planned to replace all my companies management phones whit M8s.

i have an HTC one. I switched from only using iPhone for the past several years and first bought a galaxy S4 twice! I say twice because the first S4 had a mic problem out of box, the second one had a speaker issue out of box an both were NEW!! ditched samsung ( which I will never buy again, overblown marketing hype) and bought the HTC one. I was concerned about the camera but after using it (and realizing that i don;t need to see every pore on a persons face with clarity ) i have never missed my iPhone!! that is a huge achievement for HTC. They are an awesome product, next next build to apple, and support the product with timely updates. My experience with the other android phones are very poor and would wholly support HTC. Too bad the carriers don't push them as much as they could, if people used it they would see how much better the phone is over the competitors in the market. to each his own....

Great design but wasted on the 4mp camera. Disappointed with HTC's decision to remain 4mp camera.

Muthu, 25 Mar 2014Why would you want to go from a device (note 2) with excellent camera to lousy camera (HTC M8)... moremy bad, note 3 won't support 4G in India (if you are in India). If 4G is important for you, I am not sure if there are alternatives in android flagship phones in India. Grand 2 - I think it supports 4G. However it is not an upgrade over note 2. Iphone 5s is the only flagship available in India with 4G support, i.e. if you don't mind IOS and limitations with that.

Mohammad Travadi, 25 Mar 2014hello frnds... heartly a samsung fan, using note2 now. can u guys pl suggest does it make s... moreWhy would you want to go from a device (note 2) with excellent camera to lousy camera (HTC M8)? In india, it would cost at least 45K to 50K INR. Better wait for couple of months, note 3 price would go down a bit, that would be a better upgrade than M8 unless you are fed up with Samsung. In that case, you might consider Sony Z1 (again wait for 2-3 months, price would go down further) or Sony Z2 (only if you want the latest and best). I don't think additional cost for Z2 over Z1 would be worth it (at least for initial 2 months once the device is launched).

I haven't used S4 or G2, but my brother in law has xperia Z1 13 MP CAM and believe me my HTC One takes far superrior pictures eve if they are lower resolution. I don't plan printing them on bilboards! Yes more ultra pixels would have been better, but i guess next year. If M8 have improvement over the M7 in camera quality, upgrade will be well worth. 4 mp is quite enough for everyday casual camera especialy seeing the samples in yor review.

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2014Your comments on 4K recording on a smart phone are somewhat silly. It is intriguing that you t... moreI completely agree with you on 4k video recording. It is just unnecessary in 2014. In 2016, it may be relevant, not just now. However I completely disagree with you on image size. If people buying a flagship don't care about camera, HTC One (M7) should have sold well, right? It didn't. What was the reason? Lousy camera was one of the most important reasons, wasn't it?

Ooo.... HTC
Now 2 min silence for all those who said xperia z2 had huge bezels....
HTC One 2014 = 5" display n totol height = 5.76"
Sony Xperia Z2 = 5.2" display n total height = 5.78"
Xperia Z2 even has larger sensor & is waterproof..
So where are bezel trollers now...???

But HTC on a serious note could've done better but still what would you expect more from it...?
Anyway going for Z2

MdN8, 25 Mar 2014Come on. Not even people who work for HTC believe that. Do you think that OIS, mechanical shut... moreThe HTC One (M8) audio quality is by far the best we've seen a mobile device produce so far - and that's including tablets. Even its impressive predecessor pales in comparison with the latest HTC flagship, which is not only the loudest around, but also delivers perfectly clean output.
The HTC One (M8) did perfectly in the active external amplifier part of the test, posting great scores all over the field. In addition it had volume levels higher than every other mobile device on the market right now.
More impressively, there's virtually no degradation when you plug in a pair of headphones. The stereo crosstalk rises so little that it remains better than what some smartphones deliver without headphones. The rest of the readings remain perfect too, while the volume is as high as they come. What do you know - dropping the Beats logo actually led to even more spectacular performance by the HTC flagship.
