AnonD-156746, 24 Apr 2014Ofcourse,that's why we have so many 512 MB android with kitkat..oh wait..I said "The latest Android update (Android 4.4) works very smooth on low end phones. It was specifically made to run EVEN on devices with low memory (512 mb)." Do you EVEN understand this sentence? Where did I say Android has to start making 512 mb phones?

The review is a bit reserved, but this is just a developer preview so there will probably be more tweaks to come with the official release.

I updated a Lumia 920 with 8.1 and am loving it so far. It's great to see that a lot of the old symbian tech has finally made its way onto Windows phone. It has so much more functionality, and been implemented in a simpler and easy to use style.

Compared against my Nexus 7 running on KitKat 4.4.2, WP8.1 is much so smoother despite similar-age hardware. Not a hint of lag and no restarts. I'll prob change out my work iPhone for a Lumia too when the 930 or 1020 successor is released.

I think I'll be sticking with this for a while longer that I expected to. Surprising!!! Cos I been hating on Microsoft since the late 90's

Question is, will Nokia Lumia 1020 will get this version 8.1 considering the hardware is bit old already.

I ask this important question so that I can decide to move on to Windows Phone. The 41mp and sheer size of the device is the most potent reason to take Lumia 1020.

Going through the review, clearly there is nothing new when compared to iOS and Android users. For example the "link contacts" already existed in Android, in fact most Android phones will link your contacts to their Whatsapp phone numbers without the need for you to edit anything; you could check battery, data usage... WP8.1 is trying to catch-up with the big two, clearly adding the same features. I wonder what was so exciting about WP8 (tiles maybe?), seeing how much was missing... I must say WP is at least going to be a "real" competitor now.

WP doesn't have a pre-installed file browser. You need to download app from app stores and they COST you money, PLUS you can open only particular types(pdf) of files. Ultimately you need to upload stuff to read even .txt files.

                        WP isn't a smartphone.

Not enough Android, 23 Apr 2014WP is still playing catch up catch up with Android and catch up with Symbian The Lumia Blac... moreMate, you've spoken!
I didn't put all those earlier but yeah, it's also a genuine list of concerns too. For me, the non availability of the file size and pixels of the pic was a bewildering matter right on the first day I bought my Lumia because i wanted to see if the 8 mp camera was clicking in full resolution. The disappointment on the first day continues till today whenever I come across those small little issues, which might not be a issue for an other, but surely an issue for me.
But still hanging on to this device because the 1) build of the 920 is second to none, 2) can't live without the free gps and nokia music, 3) integration of office 365 is extremely useful and 4) Samsung or any other manufacturer, IMHO, cannot compete the call quality of a Nokia (except the Note 2, of course). I might be wrong here, but this is my experience with a handful of phones from different manufacturers.
With the build quality of a 920, specs of 1520 and running Android in it, with stock apps of Nokia....... WOW, hahahaha, it would be a perfect world isn't it?

Jujal, 23 Apr 2014Who cares about your personal list :P Overall, Microsoft has made a good effort in WP 8.1. ... moreI throw a fair, straight and open challenge to you, that you don't use and don't know to use 1/10th of the power of an operating system, be it WP, IOS or Android.
How have I deduced this? Easy, by your simple hearted comment, especially the last line. I remember my grand pop commenting like this on political parties, caring and supporting certain candidates without knowing anything about them.
Of course, my challenge is an educative, informative, probing, fun like challenge, where both of us and the readers learn new tricks within WP, not a barrage of personal insults to massage our own egos.
