I'd go for a Z2, just because I like the design better.
I think either way - with either of these devices you'd have a great phone.

Stop arguing and get a life. It all comes down to "Preferences". Example:
1. I need an LTE device - I'd go for Z2. Go check the specs. It covers most of the LTE frequencies.
2. I want a good music player on my phone - I'd go for S5 due to good output.
3. I want a phone, but not so big - S5 is more compact.
4. I want a sturdy, premium looking device - Z2 wins here
5. Do you want a phone that looks like the previous phones out there? - well it's yours to decide. I'd go for LG G3 then.
Well to sum it up, make a list of what you need and what you want. No sense in arguing which is which. People should not depend on the reviews, they are only guides.

Hi dear community, the S5 is the clear winner. I really do not understand the posture of so called "sony fans" by trying to find the Z2 superior based only on the specs or looking elsewhere trying to find a positive review to satisfy their believe. Like the gsmarena-review pointed. Sony is great at the hardware side but I want to add that they have no idea how to exploit this advantage on the Z2, what a shame. I blamed the software for such performance. Well for me it is time to wait for the Z3 Compact again, assuming the Z2C will have the same weakness. I prefer such compact sizes with top specs over the bigger ones. Yes, I would consider myself an admirer of sony products, but before that I am a conscious customer not willing to pay such high prices for only a good phone like the Z2 represents to me. Simply perfect in all categories except in the most important. And people do not think I am waiting for the pinnacle in digital imaging. Cellphones are normally behind a dedicated camera device, but let me say Apple, Samsung and LG are getting closer. Samsung well done with the S5. Greetings.

Also, it's my understanding that the rankings are based on both the still image and video recording performance. And it's a known fact that Lumia 1020 doesn't excel in video recording dept. as much as it does in still image dept. So, you do the math.
