Add waterproof and SD card and you have the best... moreI'm confused. So what do you care about and why? And the phone is bigger on all 3 dimensions than the s7 that has waterproofing, has glass back, has the ability to lower resolution, along with all the bells and whistles that standard flagships have, and is one of the few that have really good battery life.
I'm just not seeing the selling point of this device.
Anonymous, 31 May 2016No fingerprint sensor? 3 GB of RAM? 2600 mAh battery? lolI question all of these things as well. Based on the features (or lack there of) I'd pay about $199 for the X Performance. There are too many other great options out there to take Sony's latest offering seriously.
AnonD-541274, 31 May 2016No fingerprint for the US..again. I'm not American but it's unfair for them. I think 4k video ... moreI'm in the U.S. and will tell you not having a fingerprint sensor on a flagship phone in 2016 is a non-starter. So once again I'll make the not-so-bold prediction that Sony's sales numbers here in the states continue to underperform. It's a dumb move if they want to increase sales in the U.S. But hey, maybe they don't care and we're not a part of their sales strategy. That's the message I'm receiving. And that's ok...there are plenty of other great Android OEM's to choose from.
SD820 on a 5" FHD display is perfect for me!
Add waterproof and SD card and you have the best combo. Can't wait to see the benchmark test.
I don't care if it has or not 4K video and display, NFC, fingerprint scanner, radio, camera, stupid selfie camera, bluetooth, VR. I never use them.
You don't like it, don't buy it. It's that simple. I for one will buy it in late august on my birthday :)
The only thing I miss is the glass back though..
""Sony has taken everything it has learned about making phones since the Xperia Z and applied it to the Xperia X lineup""
Wait what?
If they would learn everything they would know that to compete with current market they would need to focus on fighting with new OEMs like Xiaomi and Huawei that give the same package for less. So again old saying that selling more for less is better than selling less for more, especially that Sony already have good user base.
They would know that time when you release phone is important.
They would know that after all Z series it's time to fix camera algorithms, not modify it over and over. Because for of it is just bad.
They would know that one of strong point of xperia was waterproofing, and all x series should have that.
They would know that xperia z series was know for amazing battery, but after z5 they forget about that.
And finally they would know that you can't dump your history and removing iconic names like Walkman was just ldiotic, and its just one of many small things that users always liked in Sony and now they dump all that peace by peace
Sony xperia x performance .. Most costly and useless performer of its segment ... Wonder how Sony is still in business...
CheckedOut, 31 May 2016Sony has had their act together for some time now, but despite putting phenomenal flagship dev... moreWhat do you mean? The z5p was released at the end of last year just before the SD820 was released and when some phones were already using a72 cores, and it costed like $800 on release, had poor hardware that snapped like a twig, had 1080p screen and 4k only when looking at stuff through the native gallery app (no vr), very poor software for the camera. The only good thing about the device was that it dealt with the overheating.
The xperia xp on the other hand, took away some of the features that a flagship should have, and is instead still charging the same as the competitors, and its still over 4 months late.
Sony's pricing and release dates for their phones have been appalling and you'd have to be blind not to see it. It would be okay to make concessions like many Chinese brands do, but you have to reflect those concessions in the price.
CheckedOut, 31 May 2016Sony has had their act together for some time now, but despite putting phenomenal flagship dev... morexperia z5 premiuim was an unneccessary device for its time....
and its time sony did somethng about their design language for flagships..... xperia c5 ultra is the only phone dat i thought looked good and der flagships looks more or less the same since xperia z.....
before u bring d samsung/apple argument, samsung's design was successful wid d people datsy dey kept d approach and kept improving the design further, look at s3 with s7 side by side and u'll knw that they have actually done some serious work in dat department....
and i cudnt care less abt apple, der buyers are "arguably" dumb.....
take a look at lg's flagship line up.... one beautiful device after another and everytym somethng different......
even htc got a wake up call after m9 and look how beautiful htc 10 is....
even oneplus/lenovo/xiaomi/meizu etc are making better looking devices.....
and another HUGE reason is d vanilla android, no matter how "sleek" or "fast" it is according to the "internet", people do love der manufacturer's UI and its a huge factor when deciding to buy a smartphone, sony cant get away wid its smartphones sharing the same user interface as micromax and karbonn....(a few added unneccessary apps sure)
der r some samsung fans and der are touchwiz fans,
der r lg fans and der r optimus ui fans,
der r xiaomi fans and den u hav one of d largest and most active rom community for miui....
sony's ui should make an identity for sony in dis difficult market....
custom ui matters......alot......
and den xperia z series wid its average displays....
contrast ratio and d brightness are the 2 most important things that matter wen using ips lcd, and sony seems to be just pushing up brightness every year and der displays lack d visual punch that u get in htc's super lcd or lg's quantum ips lcd.....
the point is sony makes average smartphones and tries to sell dem at gold's value.... dey wer doomed long tym ago.....
sony has no excuse for its series of bad smartphones....
FrankDrebin, 31 May 2016I wonder why sony cant get their phones on the US to use finger print readers, it must be that... moreOn that, you can bet. Sony has priciples whic dont compute wit USA
Anonymous, 31 May 2016So it's supposedly a flagship with no 4k video record..no fingerprint recognition and priced a... moreIt's the preorder price and it'll come down to around 580 in 2 months.
FrankDrebin, 31 May 2016I wonder why sony cant get their phones on the US to use finger print readers, it must be that... moreI wonder that too
Needed lower price to account for lower specs like display, earlier release, better battery, and less bezels on the front. Probably the most disappointing flagship This year.
Seems an odd mix of good SOC with missing features. No Fingerprint scanner? For flagship its not acceptable. Most people trying to upgrade from even cheaper phones will now expect a FP scanner. No 4K video? again.. seems odd given its a "flagship". The SOC can clearly cope with it so must be some firmware or other issue. Those 2 alone mean they've probably lost the hardcore of fans who would have bought this. It's very pricey too given the specs.... Not my next phone and Sony need to look at their strategy as I'd be very suprised if this sells well at all. If they PRICED it at $399 or less then it might have a chance.
Thick, no 4K, no fingerprint, overpriced... You name it. Who is the hell in sober mind is going to buy it?
There is also one thing to add :
Sony Xperia X Performance doesn't have a radio while Sony Xperia X does have an FM radio.
Crap
I think Sony are strategically pricing themselves out of the mobile phone market. I can't make any sense of their marketing strategy.
i was a sony fan but no more...worst aftersales service EVER, Lg gives the best service in my region, samsung is close behind
"we really like the convenience of no longer needing to carry a SIM-eject tool around to access the microSD card slot" seems that none of you have ever used a sony phone after its initial review, otherwise you wold have said"the sony is still sticking to flaps for the sim and sd card which are held by flimsy covers that are a risk for its waterproofing" or something like that, who keep changing their micro sd card every day??? thoutless words for a review
No fingerprint for the US..again. I'm not American but it's unfair for them. I think 4k video + fingerprint is widely used there.
'Business decision' was Sony's reason for fingerprint omission. But I have heard they've encountered a license issue and that they don't want to pay a dime to someone else's patent.
"It's not an all-out effort to win the market but it's rather about taking small but deliberate steps to establishing a presence in the mobile segment. "
Well, at least they have a point of view.
