"The phone wasn't used for several hours before this recording"

Maybe you are the one not paying attention.

Sadly it seems Sony are still unable to properly manage this issue.

Tann Hauser, 04 Jun 2016Yep, EIS stabilisation strains the SoC more, but it is soo much better with no wobble effect..... moreYou mean 3 minutes, of a plain white table, before the features had to turn off. And then it only had another 6 minutes of the plain white table before it force closed.

AnonD-442781, 04 Jun 2016Of course nobody noticed the fingerprint scanner, it doesn't have one! Not the US one anyway ... moreActually, even z5 with, as you sammy fanboys like to say "overheating SoC" is able to record over 30 min of 4K video with EIS stabilisation.
Now, that is much better than any sammy device shutting down 4K video recording after mere 5 min, to prevent overheat message popin out ;-)

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2016good maybe you see other video when damir show preformace for example, and that phone have s650... moreOf course nobody noticed the fingerprint scanner, it doesn't have one! Not the US one anyway
And it has a plastic frame that doesn't feel very good in the hand. And huge bezels, have you seen how high the keyboard is from the bottom of the phone?

Check the anandtech hands on article. They show how Sony couldn't implement an LCD screen properly and the colour calibration is really really bad, or how Sony cheaped out on storage and bought an unbranded one from Toshiba that has really bad io scores.

              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNweHTAVUg4
Here, because they cheaped out on the camera and don't use ois, they had to use a software implementation instead. Which seems to be too demanding for the chipset causing it to overheat and shut down camera features after just 3 minutes and force closing after 9 minutes, just like all their other phones. Same reason they don't have 4k. This is just conjecture of course, maybe they just have really bad software optimisation.

Its amazing tho that X can actually record over 40 min of video despite EIS more SoC straining

Of course it needed to cool down
Any SoC would need ti do so

For everyone who's mentioning heating issue!!

If I remember the max video recording I saw on a phone was 18 or 19mins without problem, after that most phones get a message stating that it needs to cool down.

Xperia X got more than 40mins of recording video ;)
                    plz check below:

Plus they cheap out on ois, so they have software instead that has made all their phones to date really bad at recording videos, too power hungry.

HTC On... moreI know the Samsung S7 and HTC one aren't cheap phone, but these are sealed battery phone, without Qnovo battery tech. So, this is a weakness for them. If their battery inflated, they need to send it to the service centre.

But Sony Xperia X Performance is the safe one, because it have Qnovo battery tech, because the Qnovo battery double up the battery lifespan.
