Damn!!! So much heat in the discussion! Come on people, let's agree to disagree and just buy the one that you like. Are you both (3s prime fan and 4 prime fan) engineers?
In GSMArena's review of the regular 3s, the battery life was 104 hours. However, the 3s Prime only scored 85 hours in this test. Can someone explain this?
What it came down to for me was the Global Edition of MiUI and Band 20 (800MHz) LTE support. My 3S Prime has both. As yet the 4 Prime hasn't got a similar edition available.
If possible made with out hybrid SIM slot I.e dual SIM & memory slots separately.
Man, this anonymous guy commenting in favour of the 3s prime is the worst kind of person in the internet. I bet he never used or touched a redmi 4 prime in his life, or even a 3s for that matter. He just keeps saying to everyone that the 4 prime phone should be banned from the face of the earth, talking about poor performance of battery (even though the test shows that the 4 prime lasts LONGER) and blablabla. OMG
Why is the redmi 3s prime does so poorly in the battery endurance test when compared to the redmi 3 or redmi 3s? Considering the only difference in hardware between the 3s and 3s prime is the ram and inernal memory amount, they should have similar battery life.
Are they on different miui versions? I would like to know.
AnonD-626713, 02 Jan 2017Did you actually read the review? Or just come directly to the user reviews? The design is way... moreThey don't check RAM retention so there is no way to know day-to-day performance. They only test peak performance which is mostly irrelevant.
Since -however- they have the same amount of RAM and run the same software it's easy to know which will be faster. The one that can retain more apps in memory, therefore being the one that reloads stuff less. Guess which of the two is the one.
Yes, if android allowed to change resolution at will it may have been a different picture. But as it turns out it doesn't, add to that the worse camera and (having) less LTE bands and the Redmi 4 Prime is made a ... spurious investment.

The design is way better, actually the construction and the materials are better. Of course if the resolution is bigger the use of sock will be way bigger too. I am not arguing with that. But actually the cpu handles it very well and the ram is more than enough for what I actually need. This cpu is way way better than the cpu of 3s in terms of power consumption and stability. I already had my phone 2 days and a half without charging, which is fantastic for me. Of course if they had made 4 Prime with a 720p display it would be a much better phone (you can tweak it if you want anyway) .But still it is an upgrade (although small) to the 3s.

You may like the looks best, but the design is worse.
Every day performance is too, the slightly better SoC doesn't matter because suddenly everything needs the 1.5 the amount of ram. It's a worse phone that unless you *need* the added resolution (most people don't hold their phones closer than 12 inches away) you shold stay way off.
This behavior should finally stop. Stop praising companies for half hearted attempts, the phones deserves to tank so that they'll try better things next time around.

It is not like you have been waiting for a full year. The new one has better design, materials, cpu, better resolution and a hell of battery performance. The diference in the photos is very small actually. As I already said the difference is not much, but for me the 4 Prime is obviously better.

What the hell? The Redmi 4 Prime is better, but only slightly. Also, it's unfortunate that Xiaomi isn't putting USB Type-C in most of their newer devices..
AnonD-626713, 30 Dec 2016I write this just to clarify some points as I had a 3s and now I have a 4 Prime. The 3s is bet... moreYes, but they don't. Also you see better battery because you 3S's battery cells had been aged, at least to a point. Your Redmi 4's was brand new.
I would be interested to know how exactly Redmi 4 was better. From what I can see (from the samples) the cameras ain't, the games ain't either and as for the resolution working on both iphone 7 (a 750p phone) and Galaxy S7 (1440p phone) I could see little difference in actual (day to day) clarity,
I write this just to clarify some points as I had a 3s and now I have a 4 Prime. The 3s is better in gaming and a little bit better in photos. In EVERYTHING else the Redmi 4 Prime is better. I had a 3s and now I have 4 Prime (2-3 weeks) and for me it is much better. Since the design until the daily performance its an overall much better piece of equipment. I know a lot of you guys use your cell phone to play games, but for that I have a tablet not a phone. Of course I can also play some games on my phone, like chess, or threes. But for hardcore android games I like to play them in a bigger screen and in a much more powerfull equipment not in phone (let alone in a budget one). The 4 Prime battery is the best one I have used since the basic cell phones. It last to two days easily. Regarding the 4g you can check here http://willmyphonework.net that much of what is being written here does not correspond to the truth. I am in Europe and it works just fine in 4G. For me as a budget phone under 160$ it is a great buy and probably one the best options in the market at this price range. If they give you the option to change the resolution to 720p we would not even be discussing this.
alexv, 30 Dec 2016Thank god technology progress isn't affected by people like you because we would still be stuc... moreHave you heard of the law of diminishing returns? Once a threshold is reached then any added performance/clarity adds only slightly more to the perceived performance/clarity.
On small phones that threshold is 720p, on big(ger) phones it is 1080p. So obviously there is a difference between 480p and 720p on all phones. Heck there is a difference between 720p and 1080p on 5.5 inchers.
But we're talking here about a small phone with a 720p resolution, 1080p *will* look better, but only by a tiny bit. Not only that, it *will* make everything suffer (more CPU cycles means less battery, more stuff to draw means less ram and also less game performance).
You replace performance for dubious clarity advances, you should know that. Apple is no doofus for preferring ~720p screen on their small phone and choosing 1080p one on their bigger phone.
Like I said users like you are the problem as you push the hardware race on all fronts instead of the meaningful ones. That way we have better hardware on things that don't matter (resolution on small phones) and not better hardware on things that matter (RAM amount on Android). Just because you see bigger numbers on sth, doesn't mean it is for the best.

There plenty of tests online to show that the human eye can actually tell the difference between 720p and 1080p (not 1080p and 4k) so you are free to feel that only you are right.

Xiaomi forms a trends where their newer phone(s) is worse in certain key areas... ridiculous.
