pankaj, 19 Apr 2017galaxy s8 launched in india for 57900 Rupees ie 899 dollar. i think its overpricedIn Europe its 900€ wherever I look, dont know where rev found it for 850.
And plain is 800€.
Its a 100€ more than last year....
I really cant see a reason for price jump.
They just added that funny wide letterbox screen and a tiny tiny cam for iris scanner. And ask 100€ more from fans for it.
Even the rev didnt find it weird or suspect in any way to comment on that.
As a side note, Samsung's chipsets are becoming more and more mature. Not only it's capable of 120fps@4k (disabled to match the SD835) but also the modem, which was the final glory of Qualcomm is better on Exynos chips now. Makes me wonder why Samsung is still going SD835 in the US and cannibalizing variants with Exynos in the process, by matching the lowest common denominator.
On top of that, the beast mode didn't make the cut, as the SD835 doesn't clock higher than 2.45ghz and at increased voltage penalty at that. The Mangoose cores can reach 3ghz at stock voltage on most samples. I wonder if Samsung has to out variants with Qualcomm chips just in exchange for Qualcomm tech like Quick charge.
Corrections for your review:
- The power saving core on the Exynos is obviously A53, not A5
- The camera sensor is actually an entirely different model after all for both, the Sony and Samsung sensor variants. They have exactly the same specs, including size, but still.
- The Exynos was downclocked to match the SD835' performance on both core clusters, thus the battery results on it are apparently significantly better, just as was the case with the S7. I assume a comparison by you guys is in motion already so this is just something to keep in mind in the meantime.
- Samsung is unlikely to go dual cameras, luckily. Rumor is they wanted a bigger sensor from Sony instead, but couldn't get enough units, thus no progress. This phone has a lot of things where Samsung had cool plans but had to settle for less like this, just as with the fingerprint sensor and no bixby voice at launch.
AnonD-77443, 19 Apr 2017Many phone companies would kill for an 88 hour battery life. I agree
lacp, 19 Apr 2017There are people who think that Sony still continues to beat the other technological companies... moreWhile many sony fans are way too much....I must say sony is the one that has been tailing and even in some cases beating samsung.
They have great tech and phones
skipping samsung this year again for its silly decisions first of all
5.8 should have been the larger of the two and the other one should be 5.1 inches secondly the battery life is not good at all
There are people who think that Sony still continues to beat the other technological companies and their technology is the best and the more advanced than the technology of any company, but, already Samsung surpassed Sony in technology there is some good 10 years and in importance even more years. The Samsung conglomerate and even Samsung Electronics beat Sony there are many years as technologically as financially.
AnonD-77443, 19 Apr 2017You did notice all the noise on the V20 photo?... its ever where.
I'll give you the metro m... moreIn fact I had to say the opposite. S8+ photo looks washed out with too much sharpening applied with less details (however this may come more pleasing to some people). However S8+ image is better than G6 photo. But we know that G6 has different sensor as well.
Just check out Sponge Bob (shows very little difference) and little donkey. Those 2 figures are on the boundaries of the frame. They are sharp as tack on V20. For S8+, extra detail is missing.

I'll give you the metro map even though the V20 looks washed out.
AnonD-635604, 19 Apr 2017Cough cough xz 23mp cough coughYep, looked at the 23MP Sony XZ low light performance also... not even close to the S8+..... next

S8+ photo would be better if the sharpness wasn't set so high. When compared to V20, S8+ is second. Just check out UK Pound and USD details (if more, look at the metro map as well), texture.

Below is the low light studio comparison between S8+, V20 and Mate 9.
S8+ first, Mate 9 and V20 fighting for second & third.
Imperator Neubaticus, 19 Apr 2017your exaggerations are laughable. obviously you're hell bent on slinging mud on this phone and... moreWho are you? Are you the lawyer of the person that I responded?
S8+ will surely be better than XZ (of course; S7 Edge was better as well). The comparison had to be done with better camera phones (which has 2 cameras as well). I didn't even say P10 or iPhone 7 Plus. Mate 9 & V20 are 50% cheaper than S8+. Sad but true. If you don't accept that fact, go and let your eyes checked. If you are a desperate fanboy (who is unhappy with this phone), it is your problem :)
1 camera in such an expensive phone is bulls..t, red tint on the screen is even more desperate failure. It is even on the review phone. I am LMAO.
