Tann Hauser, 15 May 2017Wow, we are at 470 comments. This phone is most definitely the biggest hit of the year. I agree.
Wow, we are at 470 comments.
This phone is most definitely the biggest hit of the year.
GrumpyHumpy, 15 May 2017Based on my self-GSMArena statistics, the most hated brands are (from most to least):
1. Sony... moreAbout your top five.
Samsung used to push hardware. Nowadays they don't yet their prices are even higher. They're easily the worse value for money of the bunch, that's why it is hated. Especially since she gives up one her phone fast.
Sony is frankly an average phone maker that is praised to high heavens. Naturally that gets many people angry. They're middling in most of everything yet insist on making the same mistake that makes them middling. They're nothing spectacular yet extremely conservative.
HTC looks a lot like Sony. A middling company that used to get a lot of praise for bad reasons. Refuse to change despite the low sales, keep ffata mistakes on their phones for generations and make semi fly foolish mistakes out of nowhere (like that atrocious SD810 phone last year). An extremely conservative company that is sinking.
Apple hate I don't get it. They're the only company of the company that has continuously pushed better hardware and software between generation. They have a constant 30-40% raise in cpu/GPU performance , their battery continuously raises too, they do not give in to gimmicks (excessive resolutions). They support their phones forever.
Their only issue is their excessive bezels which do harms ergonomy and their hard to modify OS (which is an issue to enthusiasts). Still I think that Apple is wrongly up there.
LG is one more company that is wrongly up there because up until G6 they had a continuous upward trajectory. G6 was the first phone of theirs that was a clear step back (sealed battery, less wide screen, same performance, astronomical pricing,). So I guess they get push back because of G6 alone.
Xiaomi is another company that continuously push software and hardware. They support their phones for years (for example mi2 still gets bug fixes, security updates), always try to use the greatest hardware and batteries. Only cameras are subpar. So I guess they only get hatred because some people are slightly racist against the Chinese.
In short only half of your top 5/6 is up there for a good reason. The rest are only persecuted by fanboys. Sony, HTC and Samsung are indeed three companies that cut way too many corners though and should be critiqued for it.
Droid, 15 May 2017Samsung is the most hated brand. Nobody care about sony. Go on samsung topics and read. Haters... moreWell I don't really care what anyone says. In my opinion Sony is the best and I won't opt for anything different.
Everyone has their own thoughts regarding different things.
I will go for XZ Premium or XA1 Ultra.
Equinox96, 15 May 2017Samsung processing isnt better:
S8:https://attach.mobile01.com/attach/201704/mobile01-8b3c... moreNone old your post answered mine. Yes Samsung cut many corners leading to the worst flagship mrelease of theirs, S8. I'm not comparing this Xperia with S8. Maybe it's only S8 that manages to be even worse this generation.
I'm critical of most companies that release phones in the west. They think that we're fools and cut corners. They used to innovate and evolve their phones between gens, nowadays there is hardly a change between gens, they could as well all be phones of the same gen w slight variations.
So what you said is a non argument.
Sony could easily fix their phone, their didn't
Samsung could easily fix their phone , they didn't
Both are being kills from what Note 4 was for its time. Heck it's probably still a better phone if you discount night photopgrahy.
Also 75% BtS ratio is not "bezeless" ... your fanmboyism is showing because you didn't even read my post.
Xperia phones are excessive, those make the phones gargantuan which makes them hard to use one handed, that's just a fact, wake up!

Like I said, I'm not saying manual mode what's no place on a smartphone, using manual will (in the right hands) get you better results regardless of the camera you are using.
My point was that the manual mode in the Xperia ui is convoluted and inefficient, with more limitations than the best competing devices.
Yoy can always download a 3rd party solution I suppose, but again that's my point, taking a great pic on an Xperia almost always involves steps (more than should be necessary) and is no where near as easy as it should be.

In real world, LCD is even more power saving that OLED.
SLR2099, 15 May 2017Sometime the most hated brands can be the best brand. And thats the case with Sony.Samsung is the most hated brand. Nobody care about sony. Go on samsung topics and read. Haters from all brands sony first apple huawei and lg.... nobody care about sony. People are here to laugh about sony because sony fanboys did the same with samsung. Its just a revenge.
Jesse Clark, 13 May 2017But it looks like every phone released by Sony in past years. I can't tell the difference betw... morewhen writing or reading, do you want a paper on flat panel of curved one?
Curved screen is too too too stupid idea! Look at the tortured text and prism-effect around the borders. I really don't understand why people pay much more for that shit screen. It is just like people pay more for rotten apple.
The Only, 15 May 2017 " And even in camera there is no OIS! "
Google Pixel with no OIS can beat S7.
Sony and Goog... moreI have a Google Pixel, and no, hardware OIS will always be better than electronic stabilisation.
4K contents are really widely available, so yeah basically 1080p display with 4K label.
Camera sucks big time.
Reply only once, out of your rage when this garbage phone gets bashed don't reply three times for one message. I was initially here to genuinely see about this phone. Then it was proved the phone is a below average premium phone. Then I found the utter fools commenting here, and now I am simply gonna piss you off.
Camera sucks. Phone sucks. Users are the biggest losers, couldn't be more simple. Wanna me to be more succinct?

I mean in auto mod! But in manual mode: N8 was real winner even on 3.5"d 360×640 with only 210ppi, I'm not sure but I guess Xenon flash is necessary in Sony's flagships

In the world of photography, there is a trade off between noise reduction and details. More noise means more details and grey/color scales so you will see much better image if you don't view the photo at 100%. In real world, most people view image up to 50% only. What they shown here is a trick: it is a 100:0 white/black image so give you an impression that Samsung is better but please just imagine the real world: you need grey scale to have more information that gives depth so your brain can imagine a 3-D image.

Do you think 600/0.5 is worse than 500/0.3? I am surprised that you guys never think about grey scale that really does affect the quality of image.
Why do gsmarena not included a review or test of actual quality of LTE signal reception indoors? I mean that should be important coz everybody now is using LTE...
So there is another Super Slow Motion mode that allows you to record up to 5 second of 960fps video if that is true it's great news
See a lot of comments on here claiming that the best way to get maximum results out of Xperia cameras is to use manual mode, just like the pro's.
Well forgetting for one second that a pro photographer would just as likely pick a smartphone to apply their trade as a military sniper would choose a nerf gun, the manual mode in the Xperia cam is one of the most convoluted and limited on offer.
For starters, anyone advanced enough in photography to use manual is going to want as much control as possible, and for it to be intuitive.
The Xperia camera ui offers neither, ISO is buried in a different settings menu, shutter control is more limited in range than many competitors, and white balance is limited to just 4 preset options.
The simple fact is that in auto mode, Xperia's generally don't fare as well as the best out there, they tend to over expose, and exposure compensation (any easy adjustment on most smartphones) is again not on by default, but has to be enabled every time the camera ui is opened.
In manual mode, the experience is no way intuitive, nor does it offer anywhere near the same level of control as the best of the competition.
My experience using the XZ is that to get the supposedly 'superior' pictures the fanboys keep saying is possible is a frustratingly difficult process.
A smartphone camera first priority is to be convenient. Point - shoot - result, that's the bread and butter, you want to play around with manual photography and have £649 lying around spare, get a DSLR.
Not saying manual controls have no place in a smartphone camera, but they should not have to be relied upon to make up for short comings in the 'convenience' aspect of mobile photography.
Xperia's can take great pictures, but doing so is not as easy as it should be.
