I'd give up on 11mpx and have more if companies continued to put larger and larger camera sensors. For Samsung, it stopped at the S7, but hopefully losing to bigger sensor rivals will make Samsung change for the S9, and I hope they don't go for the dual sensor fad.
On another note, it is interesting how Xperias with decent sensor are let down by really bad software processing and lack of stabilization (software IS is not a real thing). It is also interesting how LG, despite having hands down the worst sensor to work with made miracles with it to make it not so horrible. I mean, by the sensor size alone I'd assume the results to be far worse, yet they're not great, but not horrible. Samsung scored best simply because the sensor is alright and software is too, just imagine how much they'd do if the S8 continued the tradition of increased sensor sizes. They failed flat because of that in my opinion, with the S7 and S8 having basically equal camera quality.

Unsurprisingly, s8 does well in pixel peeping tests, but when the whole pictures were released its much harder to choose.
Like lots of people have already said, a dslr for reference would shed light on the +'s and - 's of each phone.
Anybody using an xperia in low light - use it in 8mp mode, that would of made image 3 much better.

Those are the same people who when all reviewers rightly noted for years how the LCDs of past Sony flagships had horrible viewing angles and black levels compared to everything else, they used to say it's actually a good thing, and is intentional, to protect your privacy from people next to you!
If they can convince themselves that an obvious shortcoming is an intended "feature", then there's not much hope really. That's just impressive level of self-deceptive rationalization that maybe goes beyond your generic Apple fanboy. Religious fanatics level.
I honestly don't get how one can be so devoted and emotionally invested towards big corporations, owned by billionaires, as if they're their loved ones. Weird.

I wish everybody could understand that more megapixels on the same area actually means less quality, because more megapixels means more gaps between pixels, so less usable area for capturing light. People love higher numbers, that's why Sony is forced to make sensors with more and more megapixels - but worse and worse quality.
An ideal resolution for a sensor would be 3840x2880 (4:3 ratio), which means 11 megapixels. This could capture 4K video and maximize the area for the round lens circle, while also maximizing pixel size.

Samsung takes better photos than lg g6 but I would pick g6 over samsung due to its crazy wide-angle lenses. They are absolutely unbelieveble for street photos and for o es being done in narrow and tight-packed area. And it's hard to apreciate it befor having one)

The facts: samsung has 12 megapixel LG has 13 MP and sony has 19 MP...if they are shoot to their respective camera capacities, sony should be the Phone labelled "C" clearly because camera with higher pixel, capture more per unit area. Sony should be the phone at "C" and LG at "B" and Samsung at "A". These is no being a fanboy to sony its just like a forensic examination using your knowledge the way we understand cameras.......khalas.....bas....

Im so sorry Sony Fanboy but I don't think on the words you said, you're just hurting inside knowing the you favorite phone has the shi*tty camera of those 2. don't blame GSMA for having these blind shootout, I think that it is helpful that did something like this at least we will not be scammed with some gimmicky resolution on their phone.
