Overprocessed & o... moreWhen they said that the iPhone 8 resolved more details than the Galaxy S8, I was not impressed. The S8 clearly has more details and better image, especially corner softness (horrible on iPhone 8, excellent on S8).
Did you see how terrible that noise reduction algorithm is on the iPhone 8? iPhone 7, 6, etc, were already BAD but this is even worse. Look at the cars, they're not even cars anymore lol, full of artifacts.
Tann Hauser, 30 Sep 2017The real question is... Can that bokeh be turned off? Or is it mandatory? I dont want blurred... moreIt's a good question. Of course it's an effect but phones today have wider aperture which means shallow depth of field even without the effect. But I don't know how shallow. When pro photographers want bokeh they change the lens which you can't do on a phone.
Way too expensive , no customization at all and however hard I tried to get used to IOS I just cant.
iPhones have many drawbacks, which Apple will probably never rectify. But the iPhone 8 Plus does have some good things too.
Good battery life. Well-built body. Snapdragon better work hard on their SD 845, because at this rate even catching up (forget bypassing) the A11 is going to be a really hard task. Excellent Stereo Speakers. Great set of cameras.
Hey GSMarena, are you blind? Those iPhone 8 camera samples are horrible! Overprocessed & oversharpened to the point of detail loss. They resemble an oil painting - look at the trees, grass, leaves! The optics are shit too - lots of lens softness all around. Color is OK but Pixel's color rendering is wayyy better - especially in low light scene.
Guys, have you changed the reviewers? I always enjoyed reading the camera section of your reviews but this is getting ridiculous!
Its so hot... big difference between Apple devices and others is iOS .
Gsmarena... why you donÂ’t review any ipad anymore!!????
It may be fast and have excellent cameras, however it has a huge footprint with enormous bezels and it is heavy as a brick.
Symply cannot be a MOBILE device to choose.

Personally I find the Sony night photos the most pleasing to look at, but still refusing to stick with such low quality mono audio on the video camera is just plain arrogance. I would love to find out what apples real excuse is for not implementing such a basic function.
Tann Hauser, 30 Sep 2017So, dxo score protocol now actually includes...effects mode?
They added a protocol for an eff... moreWell, Apple's Portrait mode (not sure what others call it) is a popular effect, and DxOMark has to consider it or risk becoming irrelevant.
If you apply the effect in post, aren't you essentially using mobile photoshop?
"and yet manages to stay away from the core-count race very successfully"
what? isnt is already 6 now ?
Tann Hauser, 30 Sep 2017What is artificial bokeh?
In most cameras manual mode you have selective focus, to create bok... moreBrokeh is an artifact a physical lens, usually more pronounced when a wide aperture is used.
It is generally not seen in camera phones since they have such a small focal length, usually measured in millimeters (like 3.8 mm). Extremely small crop factors allow the cameras to appear to have longer focal lengths.
Brokeh as an artistic flourish allows the photographer to place emphasis on the subject, blurring out the background to remove distractions.
Computational photography allows a camera phone to do this using some type of depth sensing.
The iPhone 7 Plus used its stereoscopic lenses to produce a depth map of 9 different background depths, and computationally apply 9 increasing levels of blur to the background real-time on screen as you're composing the shot.
Doesn't Samsung do this too now? (quelle surprise)
Oathbreaker, 30 Sep 201715 hrs of video playback? iPhone X's should be higher thanks to OLED.That all depends on the video watched. Dark video's will help Oled, but video's with lots of bright scenes will do just the opposite.
Getting reports that iPhone 8 Plus gets 10/10 in repairability with zero effort required to pop up the screen! All you need is connect the iPhone 8 Plus in a charger!
Note 7 moment for Apple, major recall and stock diving?

Now when a phone scores lower rating than a first Nokia flagship in a long time ( first Android one), I suppose there is something that's really wrong in that case

In most cameras manual mode you have selective focus, to create bokeh background effect. It is real bokeh.
Shame dxo doesnt even test manual features on phone cameras, but does some extra effect, out of automode, on iphones....
Somewhat selective circumstantial protocols now they have.
If we will remove iPhone branding, call it Motorola, or Nokia for the same price - hipe will be huge. And everyone will defend price. By the way, Motorola z2 force with outdated design and literally nothing special costs even higher. And nobody cares. Overhiped v30 will have no support, has bad screen but nobody cares it's even pricier than iPhone.
