Anonymous, 16 Nov 2017Seriously, everyone's clutching at straws to bash the iPhone x.. No it doesn't bring anything ... moreDisagreeing with someone that the iPhone X is the second coming isn't really the same as bashing it. Telling that the phone isn't really bringing anything new to the table seemingly is unwanted, only praise is welcome...
There is plenty of people that don't mind the notch, there is plenty who find is just ugly. Why push aside the opinion of those that disagree with you as non-valid argument? In any case, other companies could not do it? The notch is made by Samsung tools, Essential phone had a notch earlier than Apple and LG had, in the end, a more elegant solution with a second mini-display above the main display. Just because other companies do not do a certain thing, does not mean they can not do it. With the iPhone X selling well, it's likely that some companies will try a phone with a notch too in their line up. Time will tell how popular these devices will be comparative to 'normal' phones.
For the rest, if you want to call playing catch-up with the market a great step forward, be my guest. Yes, in raw numbers, the processor is the strongest on the market for phones. It's Apple's benefit to design it's own core for just it's own devices. A company like Qualcomm can't take risks that way, since they depend on selling their SoCs to many different companies. Those companies demand specific charasteristics and in the wide range between the different demands of the different companies, Qualcomm tries to make the best possible product.
It's easy to make a more wide processor, that takes more space on the die and uses more power when fully utilized, but if it does not sell, or does not sell at the correct price, it's of no use. Other than that, while A11 has some benefits in specific situations, most of the common phone use cases, it does not outshine other high end SoCs too much at all.
Generally, it may not be a bad phone at all, but it isn't the second coming either. It's just a good phone with a price tag that does not allow for anything less good than that. In the end, there will be people who buy it and there will be people that like SD-card slots in their phone.
Anonymous, 16 Nov 2017Don't be so literal. But Read into it any way you want, the argument as in your clearly bias ... morePlease explain, how a company (the biggest? At best in the bloated stockmarket) that holds roughly 15% of the total market, makes it so that the other ~85% of the people not buying devices of said company do not want to use SD-card storage in their devices?
Yes, iPhones hold no more than ~15% of the global market. The rest prefers phones with more freedom (including freedom to add SD storage). Just because a single model of an iPhone is very popular (not strange when only 1 or 2 new models are released every year most commonly), does not mean everybody and their mom want one. It's just popular in a relative way.
Now, I'd love to see some real arguments too why no one would want to use SD storage.
Anonymous, 16 Nov 2017Don't be so literal. But Read into it any way you want, the argument as in your clearly bias ... moreDear oh dear... who's calling names now, There is no bias, if presenting facts adn asking tough questions, means bias to you then no one can have any argument.... It's your opinion that people should not talk about the devices that they are not buying, but i am interested in tech and even if i don't buy a certain product there could be some discussion about it which i can add my point to.... 'don't like what apple's doing then don't buy but don't talk about it' is very amateur argument.... you see it as a valid thing i don't. And now this "Apple has arguably released the best flagship in recent years"... Seriously?? what's best about it ?? being most costly phone? that notch (which i think is a branding attempt over user experience)?? Having the proprietary connector (over USB C)?? Having Snapchat features built into phone(animoji)?? or the first attempt at OLED?? ohh wait it must be wireless charging... oh no wait it could be fast charging.... The only thing it at all has is 4K 60 FPS over other flagships, and sorry if i missed Face ID because that's the amount of attention it deserves, just an unlock method blown out of proportions and not even convenient to boot with and now we see 10 year old son unlocking mother's device with face id... so much for 1 in a million chance, you know what else has one in a million chance, a 6 digit passcode.....
Apple's success has several reasons the financial being their huge profit margins, Carrier subsidies, EMIs, upgrade programs, the technical being the first iphone, iphone 4 , ipods etc. Those were good products for their time, after that it's mosty the same myths that android is laggy and ios is best, apple is best or Apple is the status symbol (because it's costly) etc. i hear people saying the reason why they bought iphone, again largely, don't think that i said everyone who buys apple phones is living in the same myth or doesn't have any valid reason to. And riddle me this, Apple are big and successful, yet android is way ahead in terms of users, if apple is so excellent why don't i see iOS leading?? it has several reasons like apple has for its success, so linking Apple's success to counter argument the SD card is very illogical. and by the way you still have not answered what would avg consumer do if given the option base model + SD slot or pay more and get higher storage...... if you think they would definitely love to buy higher storage paying way more, than having SD slot, then we know who is biased don't we?? i rest my case here, its futile to continue this thing further....
AnonD-715389, 13 Nov 2017Hi, All
iPhone X is better OR Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Kindly advise
Regards!I own the Note 8, I do not own or have seen in person the IPhone X, so my opinion is purely on the Note 8.
I love it, best phone I have ever used, screen is amazing, no notch, very high resolution if you want, but I use it in the mid settings, battery life is stunning, one speaker is a disappointment, but I use my headphones as the phone has a headphone jack, waterproof 100%, been swimming with it no issues at all, the camera's, my God absolutely amazing pictures on part with my DSLR, no complaints at all full manual mode if you want, amazing in low light.
I could go on, I admit I am an Android guy, could never get along with IPhone, I like to customize to much, the IPhone X is probably a great phone, but that's it "great" nothing more, nothing less.
Seriously, everyone's clutching at straws to bash the iPhone x.. No it doesn't bring anything new to the table, well that's been actually usable at least. Nor has any other phone manufacturer for the last couple years..
Yes it's expensive, apple always has been so why shoked? It's Apple, it's business and people are clearly more than willing to pay that kind of cash for them, blame the consumers not Apple.. At least now hardware speaking it sits on top
Yes you can buy similar specd phones cheaper.. No ones forcing you to buy the iPhone x are they? Knock yourself out
Yeah but the notch though... Seriously lol try harder.. most people clearly are not bothered by it nor am I
Fact remains its done something Samsung could not,nor any other manufacturer to date and it brings at least an attempt to bring something new to the table while all other brands become more and more alike
And even it brings absolutely nothing new to the table it still brings, one of if not the best screens, the fastest more powerful chip, some of the best on board speakers, one of the top camera performers.. Great build, better siri the list continues. No other brand has put together a phone that sits so highly on pretty much every single component.. Period.
Yes it's expensive, at least it's somewhat justified this time round.. and at least apple is trying to separate it self from what is a somewhat staling pack.
You know I'm not talking to anyone specifically.. But it hurts I know
:)

But Read into it any way you want, the argument as in your clearly bias which was my point from the beginning.. Sorry buddy if you don't think the average smartphone user has a need for an Sd card there's no point talking to you and again proving my point..
Riddle me this, how if people are so in need of Sd cards how has Apple become the biggest company in the world basically based on sales of one device and most sort after device ever (this is where you call me a fanboy again) ... That wait for it...doesnt have an sd card slot...
Your clutching at straws was my point, clearly bias , that was also my point.. Yes you started calling names... And once again twisting your words. Again stating my point...
This isn't a who said last deal buddy.. Also before you try and come off as high and mighty on products you clearly have no interest in which makes no sense, give some people some credit yeh?.. It's like your mad because Apple has arguably released the best flagship in recent years.. Calm down I know that is going to be touching a nerve so apologies
I got nothing more to say to you Mr clearly bias
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2017A fanboy currently using the Huawei p10 and the Google pixel before that .. Haha yeah ok labe... moreLost an argument?? was there even an argument?? normal people don't bother with SD card was your claim ... based on what?? was the question from me, and all your comments are claims, 'you are lying to yourself', 'you are kidding', 'if you think otherwise it's a lie' etc.... there's hardly anything about it that qualifies for an argument. and why should it matter whether i want to buy iphone or not ? doesn't make the unethical monetizing practices that manufacturers are indulging in any more fair or unfair, i don't buy apple device but i have rationale as to why i don't/won't buy and i put it out there, what's wrong with that .... You started name calling dude, i was not even referring to you (when i said fanboys can't be reasoned with) in the other comment which you responded to, Saying i lost it or won it is stupid coz there was no argument just a vague claim from your side. BTW you still have not answered what would an average person do if he needs more than onboard storage of base model (because of whatever reasons), and given option to buy iphone base model with Expandable slot (if it ever had) or higher on board storage than he needs but without SD card, paying a lot more than he should? Your answer is not to buy that phone which is only good if you are using single device from that ecosystem but there are genuine cases where people have been part of an ecosystem, they are used to an OS, might have paid for apps and are forced to pay more for new phone(just for extra storage) in order to avoid the hassle to leave the ecosystem, So if it makes you feel better about yourself then sure go ahead and enjoy thinking there even was an argument from your side and you won it......
AnonD-80334, 14 Nov 2017I very well know avg consumer doesn't make decisions based on a thread, but to say avg consume... moreA fanboy currently using the Huawei p10 and the Google pixel before that .. Haha yeah ok label me as you will.. What ever makes you feel better bud lol
How's it go? People that resort to name calling have undoubtedly lost the argument
I just find it odd people go to the efforts of such that actually have no intention of purchasing the product
So u must be mad about something Mr clearly bias
Yeah I see you clear as day buddy
I'm done lol
Anonymous, 14 Nov 2017 Your right I don't get your point.. Don't buy apple. And i said if you don't have anything better to say to people who don't agree with your point of view, don't read opinion threads, problem solved, you know, just like you say, don't like apple don't buy apple, .... I am not buying apple products either, this is just opinion thread, nobody is buying anything here.

Th... moreI very well know avg consumer doesn't make decisions based on a thread, but to say avg consumer can't be bothered is same thing as indication they don't need SD card, and you clearly don't see things the way they are, hence i repeat you are a fanboy, only fanboys can justify unfair monetizing practices like Apple is doing. So have fun with apple products.... enjoy!!
AnonD-711468, 14 Nov 2017I was talking about technical dominance, which at this juncture, Apple has it, not about prest... moreIs camera hump a technical dominance? They can squeeze bigger battery there.
I didn't know fingerprint scanners were gone in first place... On contrary since they are older they'll evolve now. You still haven't told me how is face id faster than fps. It'll be great if you stay to the topic
I'll place bet on other side. Their global market share goes below 10% by 2020. Else they'll need to make 399-499$ phones to be sustainable. This case with OLED and wireless charging I believe they played catch-up not the other side...
AnonD-711468, 14 Nov 2017Videolooping is not a realistic test as neither the CPU nor the modems enter the equation. Vid... moreThe video loop test does one thing perfect. Show how long a screen can be powered by the device, while playing video. It's your goto test if you want to know how efficient your display is. And with the iPhone 8+ and iPhone X being so similar, except for screen, they give you a very good picture.
Displaymate can say all they want, but the test shows from Gsmarena tells a completely different tale. So the excuse must be the video 'must have' many light scenes. Going by many other endurance tests, this likely isn't the case and even if it would, it shows that Oled after all isn't that much more power efficient. It's at best more power efficient on specific cases.
Simpel fact is, that pure screen on time of the iPhone X is sub par, both in video playback and browsing.
Not making perfect use of all the space on a display is not something horrific. If apps would break, that would be a legit reason to complain about, but not using the extra space? There already are plenty of apps that have plenty of unused space to begin with.
For the rest, the arguments more and more are in the line of if's, but's, maybe's. As I have been saying before in other threads, people will be let down by the final battery life test of the iPhone X, expecting way too much from Oled. Oled is more power efficient in some situations, Led in others. In the end, if you only watch dark movies and use dark apps, you may be better off with Oled, but I fear that's not the most realistic use case there. Also, if Gsmarena really would use a video in the loop that would significantly benefit Led over Oled, it should be evident from all the other tests on other phones they did. It isn't.
Anonymous, 13 Nov 2017So if I can score 100/100 but score 80 with less effort which still is less than 90 is it adva... moreI was talking about technical dominance, which at this juncture, Apple has it, not about prestige items (which are of trivial importance to me).
As for fingerprint making a comeback. Never happened in the past. When a player of an industry moves forwards the rest follow. Passive biometrics is the holy grail of personal security since late 1900s (you could see it on sci-fi movies) ... now that one player finally brought it on our personal devices you think things will move backwards?
Sorry that's not how tech , nor how the economy moves. When a breakthrough technology is started to be used, it is eventually adopted by all. See what happened with capacitive screens. Sure they had issues compared to hardware keyboard, but by at-large the industry moved in unison towards it.
Apple has a checkmate on their hands. I *bet you* (right now even) all big companies are trying to follow apple in that. Apple is seriously looking to eat the remaining of their profits at this point ... their use looks positively ancient at this point...
Iskander, 13 Nov 2017To you kinekt-on-an-iPhone is not it's greatest feature? Then we disagree there, fine.
The ... moreVideolooping is not a realistic test as neither the CPU nor the modems enter the equation. Videos are accelerated these days.
Most realistic tests are the ones who use a good part of the SoC (like when messaging/browsing/gaming) *and* the modems (uploading/video-chatting) ... you know things that people *do*. There iphone X shines (as in to the link that I have given you). Also the test that I've sent does use same brightness, but even if it didn't it wouldn't matter too much, visibility is more important than total brightness, it's possible for a screen tech to be so advanced so that to not need the same amount of brightness for high visibility, so using the same brightness across all phones surely does have issues (as a method).
No, what you see on android are apps not optimized for making use of the extra space. That is to say that the controls (for example) are spaced for a 16:9 screen, making less use of the tallest screens. Android app makers should make multiple profiles for each UI to make sure that they're optimized for each ... that takes quite some time to android.
iPhone X certainly has issues there, but it is in its first month, it's called "paying the enthusiast tax" ... I don't have to talk about it because by early 2018 it would be resolved to most if not all most used apps...
As for active biometrics, again, you have to do something with your finger. Given time you'd see how much less tiring (in the long run) passive biometrics are. That's why they are the rage right now ... like I said, fingerprint sensors would look ancient before long ... a few months using passive biometrics would make you unable to return to phones that need pre-action.
"This means the AMOLED is more power hungry that the LCD"
No it does not mean that. Displaymate was clear that AMOLEDs are less power hungry in most types of content. If GSMarena elected to run scenes with plenty of white that's on GSMArena. AMOLEDs are less power hungry in practice. Most apps use comparatively dark hues. Lilly white is not very common partly for that reason (many makes elect to use AMOLEDs)
AnonD-80334, 13 Nov 2017Yup exactly case with me, I don't know what world that guy is living in, people do use SD slot... moreHaha u think I'm a fan boy, couldn't be more wrong.. You've got no arguement that's clear.. The only fan boy around here is you buddy, that's clear as day. Once again wrong, if you think the average consumer goes out and purchases a Sd card for file transfer you are indeed wrong, and or you really believe the average consumer sits in phone threads for that matter?? Lol no.. Stop lying to yourself.. I never said people didn't use Sd cards did I?? Lol stop twisting your argument bud
And your calling me the fanboy incapable of rational thinking haha. Keep digging that hole fanboy.. I can see things for what they are I just don't have a problem with it..
People in glass houses buddy :)

AnonD-80334, 13 Nov 2017You don't see the point, you don't use SD card does not mean others won't, i have 20 Gig music... more Your right I don't get your point..
Don't buy apple.
Iskander, 13 Nov 2017I'm not going to make any statements on how things are globally, but I do know that around me,... moreYup exactly case with me, I don't know what world that guy is living in, people do use SD slot and if they don't bother to use one, why sell 3-4 storage options at different price points? Would anybody want to spend extra 200$ just to get 128 GB variant if Apple give SD slot, nope, people will simply buy 32Gig version and use much affordable class 10 128Gig SD card, it retails around 40$. it's a 160$ markup for extra storage (200-40). Would average consumer rather donate that extra 160$ to apple because even if their phone has an SD slot, they can't be bothered to use but still somehow need extra storage?? Arguments like these are futile against fanboys because they have lost rational thinking capability, they defend their favourite brand to death in everything, I have seen some people defend that horrendous notch(which i think is branding attempt by Apple to make their device distinct at the expense of user experience), this is very subtle flaw to that in comparison.
I like androd samsung i get bigger screen less money and no bump less money. I paid less then iphone 5 and i got fast charging and big screen.
Anonymous, 13 Nov 2017Also pretty sure other audio brands are doing Bluetooth.. Like all of them.. Wired tech is com... moreYou don't see the point, you don't use SD card does not mean others won't, i have 20 Gig music collection and i don't want to pay for streaming services and let it eat my data plan, and i did say every company that does not provide SD slot sucks, so i am not sure where you get my opinion as biased. I owned nexus 4 and have experienced that pain first hand, besides if people don't need extra storage why bother selling 3-4 storage tiers?? just make one storage option phone and sell it like Nokia 1020, they had only 1 storage option, and yes they to got criticized for not having SD slot too. Selling higher storage option is an obvious attempt to monetize on storage. And yes I criticize google too, you might not even need to go in other threads, i did call them out for removing jack the same year they introduce pixel pods in this very thread. Whether wired is coming to an end is highly questionable. Majority population are still using wired headphones, go out once in a while and see for yourself, where are these futuristic people just 4-5% of population who want to waste 160$ for the same audio quality you can get on a 20$ wired headphone? (just try Soundmagic E10M, normally sell around 40$ but often discounted to 20$ on massdrop, just as an example) just because some people feel irritated by wires doesn't mean every one wants wireless. Wireless has its own hassle of charging the batteries. People like me do not want to put up with that nonsense. By removing the jack, you can't listen to music while phone or headphone is charging. Also you miss the big point, having that jack there does not stop you from using bluetooth headphones if you want to use one, removing that annoys people like me who don't want 50 watt batteries that die in 2-3 hours of bluetooth streaming(best case practical scenario) and having to charge them again. I have ordered and returned bragi dash one of the popular wireless headphones for same reason. Wireless audio still needs to work out those kinks. I am pretty sure all of the brands offer wireless headphones but wired headphones are still by and large sold by same manufacturers. Have you ever tried visiting Sennheiser website and compare how many wireless headphones they sell vs the wired headphones? I suggest you should try that.
The whole bu l l sh*t of promoting wireless is a big joke, wireless stereo headphones have been present for far too long. I have used one from moto in 2009, so 2015 is definitely not a year where Apple would have had that thing called 'moment of clarity' where they would have thought "ohh man we gotta promote wireless audio", people like you who deny even the remote possibility of things such as unusual co incidence of selling Airpods and Beats acquisition at the same time removal of headphone jack is interlinked, is the reason why Apple is successful in selling that big fat lie about future. Enjoy your Apple products, I just wanted to explain my perspective for other people's thoughts who are still open minded and can think beyond what's being told by companies like Apple. (Notice i said companies like Apple and this is Apple thread so don't get triggered if i used word Apple).

iPhone 5 transitioned to standard aspect ratio (16:9) which was there on androids since couple of years before that. TV and multimedia were shot in same format. Can't see that being a issue for iOS Devs to port since they'd have done so already for androids. Not sure about new aspect ratio though. All your active and passive speech and you still didn't answer that how can face id be faster if my phone is unlocked even before it reaches my face. Also under display scanners are a thing coming soon. Don't worry Apple will do it in 2020 or 2019 . Facial recognition has been in Windows laptops since eternity. Besides they had plenty of time to implement kinect on their own laptops. Why give fps then? Even mac pros have FPS. I buy phone as a tool not a jewellery or something to wear as prestige. I'm pretty sure that my watch costs more than any iPhone Apple has mass produced (that's under threat these days though). That's what is example of functionality and design heritage. I don't think you'll understand that since Apple is be all and end all to you people
