JTNE, 21 Aug 2018It's not Sony's fault for unsupported VoLTE, I had a phone that was super cheap and supported ... moreYes, it is a known practice that T-Mobile, as well as other carriers, will exclude virtually any phone not sold by them from placing VoLTE calls. It matters not if the phone is unlocked or not - if it is a phone that they do not sell you have little chance that they will release VoLTE service to your phone.

Have contacted carriers and OEM's several times over the past year questioning this practice and have always received the same explanations:
-->The OEM will tell me that their particular device will support VoLTE (if it was designed to do so and shows up in the device settings). That is all well and good, however when I press them further and tell them that I am interested in purchasing their VoLTE capable phone but I have to know in advance if the phone will be actually placing VoLTE calls over T-Mobile or ATT&T (two prominent GSM carriers) - their reply may sometimes be "it should" then add "check with your carrier". Thought you might like to know that I have had these conversations with both Sony as well as HTC.

--> Regarding conversations with carriers. Have several times contacted T-Mobile and MetroPCS (a T-Mobile MVNO) as well as Cricket (a AT&T MVNO) and asked if I bring my own unlocked Motorola, HTC, or Sony device and subscribe to one of their plans, will you assure me that VolTE will be turned on for me to use. Their answers have always been the same, "We will guarantee that any phone sold by us that has VoLTE capability will be able to place calls over VoLTE." They term such phones as being certified, and if your unlocked BYOP (bring your own phone) is not on their certification list you can bank on it not getting VoLTE.

You wrote, "I've never had a VoLTE capable phone that was bought unlocked unbranded work on T-Mobile's network". My present unlocked and unbranded Moto G6 is making VoLTE calls over T-Mobile (with Wi-Fi calls too). My previously owned unlocked Moto X Pure Edition (3rd generation), Moto X (2nd generation), and Moto X (1st generation) have all placed T-Mobile VoLTE calls out-of-the-box. Have seen the same positive results for Moto/Lenova Z line of phones being posted on XDA and Reddit forums. Not sure if certain Nokia phones can do this but Motorola phones are all virtually sure to run T-Mobile VoLTE out-of-the-box. I've run Motorola phones out-of-the-box over Cricket too,

The design is likely from Japanese Ultraman Zero. The camera is the attractive part like the Ultraman Zero's spirit ray on it forehead. When apply the case it just like suit on elegant and unique!

When I switched to another phone that feature no longer worked even when it supported VoLTE and because it was not featured by T-mobile as having working VoLTE it was not supported.

It's very unfortunate that carriers do this, if it's not featured on their website on their particular phones they won't support it. They want you to buy their version of the phone. I've never had a VoLTE capable phone that was bought unlocked unbranded work on T-Mobile's network. You always had to try to root the phone and jump through some hoops on the XDA forums to get it working.

Such a stup*d thing to find the designer then slap him/her just for his/her creation that you didn't like, but I guess that's how you actually are in reality.

In any case, I'd like to find those people who created you and kick their a*ses for such a big mistake in this world.

It is unfortunately an established fact that T-Mobile, and possibly other United States carriers, are disallowing VoLTE connections when using the latest Sony phones. 4G LTE data connections go through on applicable bands, but as soon as one makes a phone call the connection will drop to 3G or an equivalent lowered quality call connection.

It is unfortunate that no internet review, covering any cell phone, has ever pointed out whether-or-not VoLTE calls are going through on a USA carrier using the device being reviewed.

I have dual sim xz2 and me to have struggle with volte calls, well i found out that going to settings/wifi and networks/dual sim/cellular data press on it and select not preffered sim card and then select again your prefered 4g sim it makes a phone to eject and insert sims without restart.. So it gets back to volte :)

I live in the USA and bought an unlocked Xperia XZ2 a couple of months ago and returned it for refund after seeing that it was not making VoLTE calls. Have yet to see any internet review on any phone mention VoLTE capability.
