AnonD-756898, 04 May 2018This phone is a total wreck.
High price, piss poor battery, still mono speaker, no OLED which... moreRomanP88.. you did not look into the specs deeply, did ya!?.. your rant is just out of prejudice.. Its an LG so it must be bad.. Well, you are wrong my friend.
Its an IPS LCD with extra white pixels, making it super bright and at the same time 35% less power hungry, which is a lot! (more than 50% of your power is eaten by the display alone!), that its no OLED, I could'nt care less! But it is HDR10 certified and can provide QHD+ and what not, so for picture quality, saturation, contrast ratios and all that.. it CANNOT be bad! otherwise it would never get that certification.. I have a feeling it might come out quite a bit better then the S9 on the display department. LG makes its own panels, and they tried to transfer their experience in TV panels, which are superb, into this very phone.
The SD845 is the best CPU there is at the moment and 25% less power hungry than its predecessor as well. It also uses another kind of DDR4 RAM, which again is less power hungry
That 3000mah battery may come out just fine.. wait and see.. but not really a problem for me, I work behind a computer with plenty of USB 3 outlets, so charging is no problem for me.. and in my glider it will be hooked up to the aircrafts power supply.
The LG G7 is substantially louder and bass richer than its competition, with what they call a boom box, and yes its stereo.. the earpiece also acts as a speaker. If you know half a bit about audio, you know that bass is not important for the stereo effect, only the highs and midrange tones are accountable for your stereo experience.. I think the audio will be awesome! Beside this.. for quality audio, nobody uses the speakers, but the audio jack! It provides DTS X on the 3.5 jack for crying out loud!!, which can simulate 7.1 dolby audio, no other phone has that.
Wide angle lens, which is way more usefull then a tele lens... Most of the people take pictures with their phones of things up close.. Also the selfie lens is a wide angle lens. very very usefull feature... and 2016 sensors are just fine for a phone camera... If you need better photo quality, pick up Huawei P20 Pro.
About the AI I cant really have an opinion, because I do not really know what that is all about, same for the Google Assistant button.. but both seem cool to me and unique for this phone.
So what are you talking about mid range?! It has some nice features that, to me, stand out above the rest, on top the super bright display, which may come out to be very usefull for my navigation inside a glider cockpit which is very bright flooded with sunlight.
Pricewise, I do not think that €850 wil stand its ground for very long... If people really turn their backs on this phone, maybe I can pick it it up after the summer for a merely €550 or €600
Anxiously waiting for the GSMArena full review with display brightness and sun readability tests. If these come out superb, this might be the phone to go to for pilots, and other outdoor (navigation) enthusiasts (boating, geocaching, cycling.. you name it!).
Larsen, 03 May 2018LG starts in G series with 2.5D ... DISPLAY IS BLURRY, BECAUSE THICK GLASS!! Compare G7 and G6... moreI agree with this. And not to mention that a 2.5D screen prevents the use of tempered glass screen protectors, using such a screen protector makes the phone look awful, whereas a tempered glass screen protector in the G6 is almost invisible.
As you can tell LG provides excellent things as follows:
1. Screen (pixels and ppi density)
2. Superior sound QUAD
3. 3.5 mm audio jack
4. External storage
5. Long lasting batteries (2 years max) from buying. and
6. Powerful and unique dual cameras
Yep, the price is insane for the small improvements received, it's been listed for 850 Euros ( 749 Pounds, $1.013). Why? ThinQ? That's not the way to leave the red numbers because no one with a bit brain is going to buy this overpriced phone.
This phone is a total wreck.
High price, piss poor battery, still mono speaker, no OLED which could save some power and allow better AOD, probably lack of updates after 2 months, camera is not high end, pixel size is way way below competition.
This is mid range phone that should be priced at 400$, the battery alone is really bad and you'll have to babysit it.
I'm using the Mate 9, and that thing smokes many high end phone where it matters- Battery mostly, that thing can last and last(Mate 10 Pro is even better).
LG will fail again...
Flyagaric, 04 May 2018Fully agreed. Notch only makes sense if the front panel space is optimally used. It obviously ... moreIt would have looked much more elegant for the LG G7 ThinQ if they removed the notch. The notch would have been useful if there are some other things available, like face recognition or entertainment (If it is optimized well to have a notch display for entertainment), but over here it isn't the case. Aren't brands going towards to trend of bezeless smartphones? Other brands like VIVO already hit it, but it doesn't mean others can't continue to reach the true bezeless state. It is obvious that many brands are starting to change from the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio to the new 18:9 for most smartphones, with way lesser bezels, but it seems like some brands are slowing down again, with the notch of course. I just don't get it, why ANDROID brands follow some "trend" that are not useful and innovative? Previously it was the headphone jack that got affected, some people think that removing the 3.5mm headphone jack would help in the thickness of the smartphone when it actually doesn't affect at all, same goes to some people thinking it can increase the battery when it helps little to none. Now comes the notch; previously people are so strict about the screen to body ratio, now? Some people are starting to forget the fact that the notch contributes to the screen to body ratio, it is considered useless because of the number of features most brands put inside, which is little to none, plus u even if u are making use of the display, the notch blocks some parts of it, being a nuisance. It makes me wonder sometimes, why can't they just make one strip of thin bezel on top instead of hiding it or showing it? Like seriously it's ridiculous, are they so desperate till they can't even make one proper strip of thin bezel and have to remove a few parts on the left and right which made it into a notch and call it a second display? No offense to Apple users, but do u agree that Apple is one of the worst smartphone trend setters in history?
No phone is perfect. Logically it's not possible. But my LG6 has impressed me in terms of screen to body ratio, battery life (unless u play a lot of games), and 3.5 jack along with DAC. I also don't care much about updates as long as my phone is running smoothly. Many people care too much about updates and I can understand their point of view.
Best thing about my G6 is I got it cheaper than the OP5. I think if LG place their G7 in proper a price segment many people will complain less about some of its short comings.
androfox, 03 May 2018notch + chin = waste of space...specs = every other phone. And talking about high quality audi... moreFully agreed. Notch only makes sense if the front panel space is optimally used. It obviously isn't here. And this ridiculous screen 19.5:9 ratio, omg...
Rock, 04 May 2018Excellent point, no comparison from any other phone. Not really. They only released G6 with QuadDAC in Asia. Rest of the world received a simpler model, without it and without few details more. One of the reason why their sales were so disappointing.
So, it's not 18:9, but 19.5:9 now. It looks sooo ridiculous, like bulldozer drove over an iPX phone... Just add the wheels and here you have a brand new shiny skateboard, boys and girls. Hell of an ugly thing.
Anonymous, 03 May 2018Does it have notification LED light? No, because it has something better, Always On Display, which shows all notifications in a much better way. AOD is supposed to deteriorate battery life, but it's so useful, that I don't care.
I am happy about their any other stuffs like fridges, TVs and washing machines etc but what the hell is wrong with their mobile/smartphone department? except having 3.5mm HQ audio out put, they have nothing much better than their competitors, not to mention their fugly notch and weak battery life! At least Samsung's latest flagship has dual- camera with variable apertures, and has everything you could ask for in a flagship smartphone(fast wireless charging, stereo speakers, 3.5mm audio jack etc). Please LG,wake up and do something!
Oh i forgot it but it's true, some of the features of LG phones are region dependant, so the 6Gb with DAC and dual sim will be only available in Asia, for Europe no one of them and for US, idem or only some. And the disparity of prices if they add an extra feature for Europe or US could be epic near the V30S ThinQ. Well, its LG so expected....
No way I would even consider buying this one after my G6 experience. Camera, which was widely (by so called independent reviewers) considered very capable proved to be complete disaster and... Oreo which still hasn't been released. So... average quality phono with no aftersale...
Anonymous, 02 May 20185.7" 18:9 is equivalent to 5.2" 16:9. Same width.
6.1" is equivalente to 5.6" 16:9 Did you at least bother to read the specs before posting useless comment that gets upvoted for no reason ?
LG G7 has 19.5/9 !!! . 6.1 inch at 19.5/9 !! = 5.2 inch for video content.
Next time think before you post.
