Does it take better pictures if you're actually in Hawaii? I've heard it performs better due to electromagnetic pulses and that's why it's called Huawei

Whackcar, 29 Oct 2018I wouldn't say it was overhyped. It was expected to be a massive improvement over the Mate 10 ... moreTrue, though I have to agree with others that this does miss out on some features that are more useful. Even so, for me, this is the second best phone of the year

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018Overall this phone and especially its camera are overhyped and overrated. The video recordi... morelolols. too many complaints, why dont you manufacture your own phone. that way it'll suit your needs. M20PRO might night be best, but you gotta give credit where it is due. this is just the beginning. great things have to begin at some point, as the saying goes, "Rome was not made in a day" . the same goes for n9 and evry other flagship out there. I may not like huawei but i know how to appreciate effort.

x3merrr, 29 Oct 2018No studio photos? Why?The studio shots are in for all three cameras. The video comparison is up, too, but 3x footage was not possible due to the limited studio space. Hope this helps.

Also updated the review with 2x zoom sample.

Ramdroid101, 29 Oct 2018 Is this a joke? Ur phone has more common things with a Samsung s7 than the mate 20! It's a c... moreThat's exactly the main reason, I hate the curve screen because it doesn't serve any purpose for me, one of the reasons why I did not get any Samsung flagship last year and this year except for the Tab S3 because of that useless curve screen. And the Mate 10 Pro doesn't have the ugly notch.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2018I feel exactly the same way about my Mate 10 Pro....battery life being pivotal, the Mate 20 Pr... moreExactly, Mate 10 pro has higher battery endurance considering that the new SoC should be battery efficient. The only thing that I consider to be a big upgrade is the wide angle lense but when it comes to image quality for regular stills, the previous model can still keep up with this new model.

Overall this phone and especially its camera are overhyped and overrated.

The video recording, anyone?!?
On top of being sub par in regular 4K, it doesn't even offer 4K60fps which is INEXCUSABLE.
The Note 9 absolutely blows away Mate 20 Pro as a camcorder!!
Also the S Pen is just so much better and more useful feature than any of the Mate's gimmicks - reverse charging, the stupid half baked screen fingerprint that requires you to put the finger on the exact small spot indistinguishable by touch, and the face scanner.
Oh and it also has a 3.5mm jack, and don't tell me the wobbly and wear prone USB C (ab)used for charging also is a good replacement.
Finally, the autonomy(battery endurance)seems overstated in other reviews and no better than that of Note 9 overall.

Bottom line, Mate 20 Pro isn't even the best phone on the market, and it costs 200 euros more than the best one - the Note 9.

Great review.

Great device, but overprice. If u have Note 9, keep it. Mate 20 Pro is indeed faster & better in many department, but its not worth it, unless u go buy straight to this device. I'm only interesting on the vanilla Mate 20 version review, which the best price per performance ratio phone as of now.

And i know using EMUI, battery life are a lot better using overtime & on a long term usage, your phone wont be slowing down with great performance in real world.

Walter C. Dornez, 29 Oct 2018I have to admit, I feel like this phone was slightly overhyped. Even so, the phone is fantasti... moreI wouldn't say it was overhyped. It was expected to be a massive improvement over the Mate 10 Pro, which turned out to be correct. It was also supposed to offer the highest specs & offer the best triple camera setup this year, which also turned out correct. To top it off, it has the most gimmick features too (which do matter in the tech world). I would say the phone lived upto it's hype.

The review did not mention anything about thew recent news that Huawei was cheating at Geekbench and other benchmarks. The P20/P20pro gsmarena reviews said that they got uncomfortably hot during Geekbench which was because Huawei rigged the rom to recognize the benchmark running and altered the performance profile to push the cpu beyond normal limits to give a better score.
