It has the mediocre 48MP camera with no OIS at all, and takes mediocre pictures. There isn't even a contest.

Jun1250 - Just compare that two phones here on GSMArena, you will find only minor differences - IP6x, LTE bands, stereo speakers ... should I pay 800 euro more for that?
BTW in my country you can buy S10e for 630 euro that is much less than Xr so I think Samsung won the battle here

Your argument makes sense if the Mi 9 was clearly inferior to these two. The fact is, even disregarding price, the Mi 9 is superior to both the S10e and the XR (aside from water resistance).

For instance, when comparing Mi 8 and OnePlus 6, Mi 8 is cheaper but OnePlus still has some splash resistance while having a 3.5mm jack and OxygenOS, some other slight trade-offs here and there
Let's just say you can't compare Mi 9 with these two because it was never meant compete with them

On my 6 Plus, I could unlock it while on a desk, in hand, or in landscape. This XR only unlocks in Portrait and has a specific area and distance from face to unlock. The iPad implements Face ID much better

Barely?I believe I have tried Facial Recognition/Security from every phone company in one form or another, and I can honestly say Apple's implementation is the best one yet. However, on the whole, I do not like Facial Security, due to the limitations of lighting, glasses, attire, makeup, facial hair, hair and twins/dopplegangers. And not to mention how it sometimes struggles with photos or videos spoofing.
Yet my biggest complaint is its speed and inconvenience. Apple's FaceID is the only one I would say has decent security, however, compared to your standard fingerprint scanner it really is slower and much more inconvenient.
I have a feeling Apple may not revive TouchID with an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. They might double-down on FaceID and make it faster.... and implement the entire sensors (the "notch") underneath the display instead. Until that happens, Apple's current security system will be behind the competition, and hence, my "barely" remark previously.
PS: I hope Apple improves this drastically, and as fast as possible, I want to see greater competition in the market wether that comes from Apple... or Microsoft, Blackberry, Palm, KaiOS, Jolla, Nokia... or Google, Samsung, LG, Sony, ASUS, Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, Meizu etc etc.

Ads can be turned off and they won't show up again so try harder
Mi 9 is way cheaper than both phones so regardless it wins

It doesnt make sense why everyone compares the Xr to the S10e. The S10e has much more in common with the Xs and by comparing it to the Xr it makes the S10e look overpriced, when in fact it is much better value.
