The Sampson galaxy a40 in blue is a nice looking phone and thought this was for me but unfortunately not, the cable is too short and the connection into the phone is awful it fits in both ways but only works one way round, they are penny pinchers to supply that my other phones have got a much better connector, the volume don't go up enough for me as I am a bit deaf ,the picture quality is no better than my cheap phone so not that impressed with this phone

Love the phone so far.
Any tips on how to get the best out of the camera?
Is the stock app as good as Open Camera?
Is there anything in the settings I need to change to get the best photos?
Also, when it comes to sound via headphones, what are people finding are the best settings?

Have had the a40 for a few weeks, a great phone. Feels snappy, fluid and apps/games load and play without any issues so far. Beautiful big display in a small form factor which I really enjoy. Build is plastic but does not feel cheap or hollow, no creaks on the build and really love the rainbow Gradient effect. Camera is good so far but haven't taken laods of pics other then a couple of macro shots which turned out very well. A great phone.

After agonizing over OnePlus 7 Pro and Xperia 1 for weeks, I decided both aren't what I'm looking for and I got this gem of a phone. I'm so glad I did! If Google releases a good Pixel 4 this fall I'll probably upgrade, but this phone has all I need in a very pleasant format. The screen is very nice, you get Dolby Atmos for headphones, two sim card slots and an SD card slot, face unlock, Android 9,a headphone jack... And a 3100mah battery.

Street price for the Nokia 5.1 Plus is about 160€, the A40 with actual prices of about 210€ is certainly not double the price.
The A40 has better specs all around - except for a minor difference in CPU power.
Sure, the 5.1 Plus has Android One but Samsung isn't known for abandoning their phones early on, either.
Actually, since the Update to Android 9 was already a major one for the Nokia 5.1 Plus I wouldn't bet on it getting a second major update to Android 10.
Samsung has stuffed the A40 with a lot of goodies. In that price range of about 200€ I couldn't find a truly better phone (Pixel 3a is similiar with a much better camera but is way too expensive with its 400€ price).

I think this phone has some awesome features like amoled screen or selfie camera but the battery is also not that bad.

True, it has 1GB RAM less (talking about the 3GB/32GB version), but higher performance CPU-wise. I don't think there is a better deal than Nokia 5.1 Plus atm, especially in the "compact" segment. In stores you can find the Nokia 5.1 Plus at half the price of A40, when in fact the phones show similar performance, with small pluses on the feature side for the A40. Android One tips the scale in favor of Nokia even more. The Nokia 6.1 Plus offers minor improvements, but offers a worse price/performance ratio, without adding significant value.
