How can you know if your USB C-3.5mm jack is passive or active
"However, space was obviously at a premium as essentials have been scrapped - there's no headphone jack, and there's no microSD slot either. Boo."
You said it well for the lack of the essentials at this kinda price$$!! Look at Zenfone 6 (albeit IPS display) with almost same camera motorized tech YET keeping the essentials which EVERYONE NEEDS & CHEAPER in price overall.
"The Samsung Galaxy A80 does not come with a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter in the retail package, which meant there was no way for us to perform our audio quality test. We tried using a couple of passive adapters we had lying around, but the phone didn't work with either of them, suggesting that it might need an active one to work."
I will say this ONCE again. USB-C to 3.5mm adapters are mostly proprietary which differs in quality (passive / active) from brand to brand. 3.5mm jack is simply a MUST for the price Galaxy A80 offers.
"Performing a test with an active adapter wouldn't make sense though, as each of those has a different DAC and any results we obtain won't be representative for the actual output of the phone."
Same explanation as above.
First of all, great and honest review GSMArena!!
Listen to the Samsung fanboys here trying to defend this abomination.
Seriously, limiting the selfie camera? When the hardware is right there? Even Apple does not do this. They omit, but what they have is utilized to its full potential. BTW, photos don't compare to Zenfone 6 i.e. Zenfone is much much better.
I am happy that Samsung is not carrying this ideology to its flagship S-Series and Note series phones.
I am also very happy that the Samsung fanboys needlessly bashing GSMArena for an honest review are few in number and rather poor, so once this device fails to hit the sales required, Samsung will definitely come up with improvements to the second iteration of this device!
I thought Samsung already learned from their past mistakes. Boy I was wrong. This phone will be a tough sell just as GSM Arena mentioned. Boo
I stopped reading the review at "no headphone jack". I already own a Pixel 2 for the last 18 months and I just can't handle the hassles of adapters (already lost one and the replacement cost a lot). Or the hassels of charging bluetooth headsets - was really annoyed when battery ran out mid-flight countless times. I hope consumers are able to send a message to manufacturers not to fix what ain't broke (and stop the greed). Asus Zenfone 6 it is for me.
When you compare the images, it's definitely better than the zenfone 6, iphone xs, mi9 and even a s10. What's wrong with the review? Also i doubt whether it's a sony sensor, not isocell?
[deleted post]Because processor choice and pricing is the main reason for them to give low rating, despite how good the phone is.
I got this phone preordered for freaking 450€ so im pumped... i dont know why is everyone just against the samsung here but i dont think its bad phone... sure, it is overpriced but it will become 450€ after month so there is no need to say that... the phone is just perfect for everyday user, no need to have 12 gb ram, 1tb slot for sd card, the best processor... its a phone, not your personal notebook... and about jack... people are so butthurt over it when its basically no problem, i was using older phone without jack and i never had problem like geeez
for the price they are charging, i would rather get an asus zenfone 6. the zenfone has a bigger battery, a flafship processor and even has a headphone jack.

- Em, maybe it'... moreWhat he means is that a 12MP 1/2" can do better than 48MP 1/2".
Except for digital zoom.
Both you give same amount of details and DR.
When you have high MP count you have more pixels to crop.
Crop of 48MP will look better than using digital zoom for a 12MP.
I prefer to have 48MP that downsample to 12, instead of binning.

- Em, maybe it's really harder or more expensive to create 12 MP sensor of same size?

- With more noise?

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2019The camera holds up well. Low-light photos are better thanthose taken by S10+.Better before S10 plus camera update maybe.
"As is common with phones that use the 48MP Quad Bayer sensor, the Galaxy A80 lets you shoot at that resolution even if that's not what the imager was engineered to do."
That's absolutely not true. Otherwise they could have made a 12 megapixel sensor of the same size. Pixel binning + 48 megapixels has no advantage over a 12 megapixel sensor of the same size. The main purpose of this sensor is better digital zoom, the option for 48 megapixel photos and a larger sensor size. And indeed Samsungs 48 megapixel jpg has a lot more details in the center of the image (not at the edges due to the lens).
