Sony has "Stamina mode" that works very good... look in the top 20 how many Sony's you have there ...
"If an expansive HDR OLED screen is a must, but you can live without the 4K resolution"
You live already with a 720 screen and call it retina.
This review is suspect. Having a 855 chip is pro on a flagship these days.... LOL! That's the standard.
This could be a perfect smartphone, if the battery was at least 4500 mAh and if it had a headphone jack. The phone would be slightly thicker, but with no camera bump. This is supposed to be a media beast, but the battery won't even last an average traveling day with few hours in train/plane etc. 1 movie + few hours of music and you are done.
Shanti Dope, 09 Jun 2019"So you decided to look over the strong sharpening halo and contrast boost that Xperia 1 appli... moreOk I completely take back the "contrast boost" part of my comment as my wordings seems to caused a bit of confusion, Xperia 1 indeed captures better dynamic range than Pixel 3(which is not known for good dynamic range by today's standard), and comfortably matches iPhone XS and P30 in this regard.
"enhance instead of increase rather, but the point still remains"
The sharpening does a decent job to make the image more pleasing in low light, but definitely it does more harm than good during the day. Nokia 9 has the same problem but that one is even worse than Xperia 1, it eliminates every single fine detail in low contrast area into oblivion and turn them into a mush. Given its new RAW noise reduction, there shouldn't be any reason to use sharpening this strong, unless they are using soft lens and trying to hide that fact. It's especially weird considering that alpha team actually helped the Sony mobile division for the development of Xperia's brand new multi camera setup.
Best low lights shots ever seen on a smartphone? Yep. Shame the battery life isn't that great and the aspect 21:9 ratio is a pointless exercise in "we do it because we can" not because they should. This phone isn't available in most parts of the world even if one wanted to buy it. Wonder why Sony even tries to market a good product at this rate. That Japanese stubbornness to change strategy in the face of market realities is their undoing.
It seems Sony has internal standard to decide the size of the battery which determined not by the capacity of the battery but usage time of each device. Recent Xperia devices' battery testing done by GSMA show kind of pattern, except for compact models. XZ2 & XZ3 also deviates but sony's calculation may match with the other phones, who knows?
Xperia XZ 72hr 2900MAh
Xperia X Compact 73hr 2700MAh
Xperia XZs 73hr 2900MAh
Xperia XZP 72hr 3230
Xperia XZ1 82hr 2700
Xperia XZ1 Compact 108hr 2700
Xperia XZ2 88hr 3180
Xperia Xz2 Compact 88hr 2870
Xperia XZ2P 77hr. 3540
Xperia XZ3 90hr. 3300
Xperia 1 79hr 3330
Gosh, daylight images are one of the best available in all lenses, all lenses performs smiliar to main cam, except for wide angle which is not that similar, but one of the best lenses, and low light shots arr just wow factor, lowest noise with highest details, incredible Sony, this time I have to say, you done it Sony, great job
I think Sony need to quit doing these boxy designs, they were old 3 years ago. Shame on the small battery and lack of audio jack. This phone wouldn't be for me.

From my comment you replied to:
"moving towards more natural processing with more realistic color saturation and texture processing"
I'm saying that phone manufacturers are using MORE natural processing than before, of course DSLR captures the most realistic photos all the time if post-edited on a calibrated monitor. It's a matter of a comparison. Try comparing P20 Pro and P30 Pro, iPhone XS and iPhone X, or Pixel 3 and Nexus 6P and tell me in each group which phone is capable of capturing the scene more realistically, especially in terms of details.
why don't they gave us two fingers print scanner, under display and on the back, seriously most udf don't satisfied not just yet
Sparkxster, 08 Jun 2019Xperia 1 is a great phone but I will wait for the Xperia 2 which will have wireless charging. No, it won't I'm afraid
Knogreeme, 09 Jun 2019Could've been a great phone if its not for its imp of a battery and that length of a remote controlBEST a remote control than a wide hip smartphone.
Yeah really great for watching videos until the small battery runs out. . Idiotic
Excellent and Best test from GSM Arena again. Will buy it (purple) for replace my XZ2 PREMIUM but hope Sony will make 5G model shortly.
Sony sales are poor these times but Xperia 1 is not produce enough and already out of stock in few colors in Germany.
