Anonymous, 20 Sep 2019So it has the same battery size as the Galaxy S10e, but it is 16mm taller. How stupid is this ? But it's narrower, and had to make room for a 3rd camera lens. It also scores 13 hours better on endurance, so I'm not sure what you're trying to point out.

Hopefully the price goes down by next year, targeting this as a replacement phone for my XA1 Ultra.

Taller get better grip than shorter and Xperia 5is pocketable even the Xperia 1 also pocketable. If you talking one hand operate, other flagship have wider width than Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 so you can only choose either Xperia 1 or Xperia 5 because other flagships are chunky and heavier.

Those competitors all get a big bite (curved) on the corner and some come with curved edges ("waterfall" screen) and majority come with notch/waterdrop/punch hole..

the screen is almost perfect. sadly the screen corners are still a little rounded, but it's better than any other phone released this year. it's getting harder to find a smartphone with a proper screen with square corners.

DxOMark is just series of tests and nothing more. They cannot conclude the tests for all features that camera can do. For example they lack AF burst test, they lack slowmo test and they lack HLG HDR video test. All those features have been available only on Sony and Samsung phones for 2 years now. Their video test is pretty basic stuff.
Anyhow if you want your camera to score high on their test all you have to do is tweak the output to match their hit values which you can obtain by buying it from them. That's how Xiaomi and other bulk OEM get high scores on the test without giving you better images than Sony in real life usage. They are just hitting the specifications right the same way they tweak their phones to run synthetic benchmarks real fast.
Btw Sony was real close with DxOMark to achieve 110 with Xperia 1 but marketing push fell apart. It was supposed to happen a week after the release. Guess Sony didn't want to bother.

Sony phones does not sale in some country's. In my experience It has poor marketing and even porer customer service if you bought your phone via a parallel marketing. Worst of all is the build quality of the phone which leads you to be needing they're assistance. Don't be fooled by the specs
