The phone is awesome and super. But worried or sad about this Sony Xperia 5 smartphone no longer in my country (India). Please🙠bring back Sony smartphones in India please ðŸ™
Santiano Guzzo, 19 Sep 2019No, as Sony fan I really appreciate what Sony's doing and totally satisfied with it. Currently... moreYou're only a small fraction of the fans left, most Sony fans have switched to other brands.
I am a loyal Sony user from 2006 to Xperia XZ1 Compact, but my common sense makes me stop using Sony phones.

Here comes the best. This devoce will sti... moreActually, they will have more than 3000mah. Batteries have been designed to only degrade by 20% in the long run after a particular number of charge cycles. 20% of 4000mah and I think you'll find it to be 3200mah, dummy.
On the other hand with Sony...

huh? This is a close up shot.
If I put my Xperia this close it will show Macro icon.
If you point a camera with 50mm f2.0 to someone 3m away from you, background will be blurred.
Point the 52mm f2.0 from cellphone to someone 3m from you, nothing will happen.
All phone use computational tricks to blur background.
FF has 43,26 mm diagonal. Divide this for cellphone sensor size, the multiply for camera aperture to find equivalent on FF.
"Telephoto" of cellphones would need to be f0.2 to blur background without software.

It's much better than any phone with good DxO rating, and much cheaper.
The phone is awesome. But the problem with Sony is that it's no longer availible at the carriers in my country (Slovenia). Only retail. One carrier (A1) is selling old Xperia phones like the XA, XA1, XA2, XZ, XZ1, XZ2, Z5 Premium, XZ Premium and the XZ3 for change.
Sadly, I can't afford a phone that costs 800€, so I'm gonna probably buy the S10e for about 350€ from a carrier deal.

Too many thing bothering me with Samsung to try them out to be honest, especially their image processing and UI.
Being a fan is just limiting consumers, nothing good siding for a Brand.
Exyvia, 19 Sep 2019ELI5: You got (2x2) 4 people arranged in a square, you need to tell everyone individually what... moreThat only work with LCD technology because you need to turn filters.
Oled is different, oled is like just spot next to another. a lot of small spots of light need less power each to produce the same brightness than less and bigger spot.
Plus, look at my previous comment, monitor power drain is far more complex that just the panel drain. That's why some LCD 4k screen consume less than 2k, sometimes, and sometimes not and the gap is not that big.
Anyway, in fact, we don't really care, if the phone last as long as a FHD screen while it has a 4k screen, that's the only thing we need to know. Mine does 20% less than a mate 10 pro that has a 30% bigger battery. So no issue with the Xperia 1 so far. Especially comparing to some other $1500+ phone.
Exyvia, 19 Sep 2019Especially when they're willingly ignorant to the fact.
Can't even google search of the wat... moreHere you have 2 monitors of the same size, with somewhat the same technology (here 144Hz, freesync, IPS) you have only 10% power difference here between a 2k and a 4k screen (that is 4 time more pixel):
and here is a 2k monitor that drain 15% more energy than the 4k, without the 144Hz, nor any adaptative sync: https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews...ips-zero-g.htm So it only depend of the quality of the pannel, and for monitor, of all the bonus you add in the software, internal chipset etc.
And as stated in the quora link, lcd works differently due to it's technologie, and in this case, it's perfectly understandable that a 4k screen would consume slightly more. But for Oled, the power drain could be completely the same.
The only good thing about this phone is XZ1 Compact should be much cheaper now. No 3.5mm headphone jack and weird unnecessarily long aspect ratio.
Kudos for them anyway for the efforts.
Anonymous, 19 Sep 2019Your link did not give the wattage.ELI5: You got (2x2) 4 people arranged in a square, you need to tell everyone individually what colour shirt to wear. So you walk up to everyone one by one telling them what colour.
Now if you got 4x4 square, 16 people, it takes more energy to tell everyone. That's basically how a monitor works.
Quick google got me two 27 inch monitors, 4K and QHD. Both with 300 nitts of brightness and IPS panel type.
TL;DR 4k panel with 36W typical and 2k with 30W
Another phone that is insanely expensive vs the competition. No innovation just a copy and paste job of an older phone to confuse the buyers.
A manufacturer that provides the industry with camera sensors has a poor DXO rating and over processes their images.
Sony still playing catchup but being left behind.
"The not so great bit is that the 5 didn't manage to build on the 1's decent but uninspiring performance with headphones. Some intermodulation distortion crept in, the stereo crosstalk rose more than average and the volume went down to below average too. Good enough for most people overall, but not great for a flagship."
This explains why 3.5mm jack is SUPERIOR compared to USB-C to 3.5mm dongle. Come on Sony, for that price, there is more than enough space for the 3.5mm jack!!
