The ring coated with silver color is actually the ultra wide-angle camera, not the 48MP primary sensor.

The RN8 has... moreCrapware on this phone is the easiest to remove.
And yes, kernel sources are very good. Nothing to complain about it.
AnonD-754814, 03 Dec 2019I don't care what you'll take. If you want the best mid-range phone camera, Pixel 3a all the way.
This is an entry level mid-range phone. It's more of a spec sheet focused rather than a "quad camera superstar".
[deleted post]Why would I need an OIS if I already have gadgets to counter it?
Seriously, this is an outstanding mid-range phone. No need for fancy features like OIS, IP68, etc.

Anyways, this phone I had, Redmi Note 8, won it from a giveaway. My cash was not hurt. :)
AnonD-754814, 03 Dec 2019I don't care what you'll take. And also nobody care what you think is best. Your choices ain't even for best mid-range, but rather best camera midrange. There so much more to consider for a phone than just camera.

The RN8 has the pretty decently updated 4.14 kernel version and I've seen really outdated kernel versions in recent phone models. *cough* Motorola *cough*
Xiaomi always with tons of crapware with very old kernels the important parts don't get any attention

Go for the Xiaomi Mi series. My friend had a Redmi note 5 AI. It had Worst camera I have ever seen. Worse than my Nokia N95 Which was 10 years old. I didn't do s side by side comparison but that's the result. I guessed that The problem might be with that particular unit.
Geric.770, 03 Dec 2019K20 Pro all the way man.I won't trust any Camera without OIS. When a manufacturer doesn't implement OIS to the smartphone, It means that manufacturer doesn't care about the camera performance.
AnonD-754814, 02 Dec 2019No midrange smartphone camera can match Pixel 3a and Mi note 10K20 Pro all the way man.

There is a Redmi Note 8 Pro with Mtk Helio G90T (a Sd720/730 equivalent).
Or try Realme devices as they offer better chipset for the price
