higher, 06 Mar 2020Because you suggest that ARM designs (fully or partly) Apple's CPU cores which is not true. Yo... moreFor your mongoose vs apple part.
Yes mongoose was to catch apple, which they were doing very well though Apple SoC was much better. But exynos was doing at least better than Qualcomm's ARM cortex SoC.
Samsung did it just to close the gap and you can definitely see the result of those years. I don't know since when you are following tech news but those days Qualcomm was nowhere near exynos in CPU. Yes adreno is much better than Crap Mali GPU but the truth is Apple GPU is much better than Adreno. Exynos has been bad since Exynos 9810 and Exynos 9820. And another truth is Exynos has been performing bad because of the GPU.

What you claim about Apple SoC ahead two Gen isn't true. It was true before. But not now. We will see how SD865 does compared to Apple A13. SD 865 might even do better than A13. Also I will not consider the Gaming phone's perf as they are kinda cheating.

Anyway what is Wcftech ? Never heard of it.
Read Notebookcheck or AndroidAuthority or CNET.

higher, 06 Mar 2020Because you suggest that ARM designs (fully or partly) Apple's CPU cores which is not true. Yo... moreHave you really referenced Anandtech again.
Do you realise that ARM V design is more important and more costly to develop than ARM cortex core design ?
So how is apple doing it from scratch ?
And please don't say that Apple give OLED design to Samsung to produce display for them.
People who know will laugh at you.
If Apple had a OLED desing they would have given it to LG, Sharp or BOE to produce the display. Why would the choose Samsung ? Simple logic.
Custom made means many thing.
For a simple example : Custom made bike company doesn't give you to design their bike. You tell them what parts you need and they will make it for you with their existing design.
It's possible that Apple demanded something like this...
Dear Samsung
We need display with 100%SRGB coverage, 80+RGB coverage. 600+ nits brithness , SR 5% or lower etc etc.
This might be the reason to say that on their website.
I'm not here to argue with you all say.
But trust me Apple hasn't developed any OLED yet which can be use in Smartphone and when they do their choice will definitely not be Samsung.
They have only developed a low power OLED which is good for watch or small device only. And they gave it to LG to produce display for the latest watch I guess.

AnonD-754814, 05 Mar 2020Why are you keep talking about ARM cortex ? It's core architecture(like A7, A55, A77). I was... moreBecause you suggest that ARM designs (fully or partly) Apple's CPU cores which is not true. You seem to mix ISA with microarchitecture.
ISA (instruction set architecture) is the set of instructions supported by a processor. Typically, a bunch of processors support the same ISA. For example, x86, x86-64, ARM ISA are different ISAs.
Microarchitecture, sometimes abbreviated as µarch, is the way a given instruction set architecture (ISA), is implemented in a particular processor. A given ISA may be implemented with different microarchitectures. And that's what Apple is doing, they design (from scratch) their own microarchitectures whereas Qualcomm, Samsung, Mediatek and rest are licensing microarchitectures developed by ARM (Arm Cortex).
Take a look at the slide again I linked because that's from ARM itself eventhough it has Anandtech watermark on it and ARM says those who license the ISA only (like Apple) design their micoarhitectures from scratch.

Samsung wanted to be Apple with those Mongoose cores but unfortunately it didn't play out. They are slow and inefficient (even compared to Arm Cortex, let alone Apple).
ARM didn't manage to close any gaps with Apple's cores either because Apple's cores are around 2 years ahead of ARM's.

I guess you look up to those who read Wccftech but I recommend you read Anandtech. There's no shame in it and you might learn something in the end.

Once again Apple develops OLEDs, they mention they use custom OLEDs on their product page. What's not to believe about it? It is also confirmed by Anandtech (I know Wccftech didn't confirm it so it's not true). Let me ask again what about the LTPO backplane developed by Apple for Watch S4 and S5? Samsung recently did the same but almost a year later than Apple. How come? Did they allow Apple to use it first? :)

Enough reasons for Samsung not to bleed millions and billions into their development, any further.

I was not talking about it.
I was talking about ARM design like ARM V7, ARM V8 .
And I always look down low to those who read anandtech.
Sorry I am not gonna read that.
You said Apple design from scratch. Designing from scratch means designing from 0 help of others. Which is not the case.
The way you are saying feels like The ARM base architecture is nothing and it's found in Earth naturally.
This is the main architecture.
The ARM cortex design is more like consumer shape of the ARM base design. You should read about both ARM cortex core design and ARM V design. Because it looks like you don't know what ARM V design is.
Samsung's mongoose has always been better than ARM cortex since it was introduced. You might say the Multi core score is much lower. But it was never their intention. If it was then the would have gone all custom core, not just the high perf section. Mongoose was supposed to challange Apple SoC as the single core perf between Apple SoC and ARM SoC was huge. Samsung just tried to lower the gap. But as ARM has managed to close the gap and also doing better at multi core lately Samsung felt no longer the necessity to continue mongoose core.

SN: Would you mind telling what is your point on this topic exactly ? Because I don't remember arguing with you on this topic. You and I were arguing about the Oled screen as I remember. There you also gave misinfo like Samsung use Apple design to Produce display Which was shit-talking. Now you are doing it again.
And don't show me anandtech article.
You also should know what licensing is.

Apple's designs have nothing in common with ARM Cortex microarchitectures. Samsung designed their custom Mongoose cores from scratch as well but it turned out to be subpar to ARM's own Cortex microarchitectures.

I think this picture (ARM's own slide) explains it well and I got no probs with you.

AnonD-754814, 02 Mar 2020The way you are saying isn't possible. But they certainly can review devices after the retai... moretrue, i would the reviewers also do some re-visit after a year, since usually the phone would change quite a lot (either battery life, performance, camera, etc.). If I remember correctly, there is one youtuber that make a full explanation about this 'first-time' review and apparently, this is what the manufacturers do. (i'll post the link if i found it)
Plus, since the competitions are very tight now, with minor 'innovations' here and there in any new flagships, companies seem to aimed to get as much as pre-orders in the beginning. I quite understand this, since samsung wants to 'trap' buyers before they have a second thought when p40 pro, OP 8, iphone new SE (or 9 or whatever), or even new mi 10 pro and oppo find x2 release.

Apple do use ARM design.
So, how is Apple designing from scratch ?
You are too much apple biased.
Yes apple doesn't implement Arm Cortex design directly like Qualcomm, Kirin or MediaTek.
But Samsung used to design custom core(mongoose) just like Apple.
You just poked in the middle from out of nowhere without knowing the initial debate.

FN : I replied to your reply. But you went silent on that. Now you are debating on someone else's comment against me. Do you have have any particular problem with me ?

As I said, if you have 5 phones with dual pixel, they wont have same AF speed. It is softaware implementation.

S7 got 91 points for AF, X Performance (Hybrid without Laser AF) got 95.

My phone has PDAF only, no hunting in daylight videos and photos.
