Nick Tagataka, 27 Mar 2020My guess is that they opted for wider angle lens for the main camera so that they can crop in ... moreMy guess is their ISP doesn't support stacking ZSL at an acceptable frame rate with the bump in total resolution, so they're making do with less. From the reviews of previous models I assumed that they didn't stack, but now they're explicitly saying that they do, so they probably do, and the sampling may have to take a hit.
Indeed as the UWA is the video module this shouldn't happen to the main otherwise.
Want a Mate 20X version of P40 Pro. Bigger flat screen, bigger battery, huge stereo speakers.
I am sure the Night Mode issue will be resolved in an update. Huawei always update camera processing after release.
Anonymous, 29 Mar 2020No I do too. The P30 pro is also now a great deal ! Count me in. Right now P30 Pro price is insanely cheap for the specs, especially camera. Their camera tech already 1 year ahead beyond others when it launched last year, so you wouldnt left behind even buy it in 2020. Kirin 980 not par with others in specsheet, but in real-life usage its just a different in mili-second, which can still maxed-out heaviest games/apps and using it smoothly.
Love the minimalized notch more & still got minimal bezels when hide it in settings. Owh the GMS included are as bonus.

What's the point of capturing scenes as wide as possible if it looks plasticky soft mess once you start zooming in even a little bit?
Do not buy any Huawei phone. I warn you. I sold my Honor Play after 5 months of owning it because I noticed suspicious activity. For several consecutive days I noticed my data was on and I didn't even use internet but still my daily data limit was exhausted. I didn't even use whatsapp or any social media app nor did I use internet to download or watch anything. Seems like all my files stored on the 64 GB internal memory and the additional Micro SD card were uploaded to Chinese govt server for surveillance I think. Rest your choice.
Raffel, 27 Mar 2020Am i the only one that prefer Huawei p30 pro's notch over this massive punch hole?No I do too. The P30 pro is also now a great deal !

The review states: "The new Kirin 990 5G is one of the best on the market, with solid thermal properties."
I think its too far behind SD 865 and Apple's latest to be a fair statement. Especially considering the asking price at launch. Last year Huawei falsely claimed (and a log of reviewers followed) that Kirin was finally catching up in performance. Its pretty obvious now, that Kirin is exactly as far behind as the last few years.
Other than the good low light camera here, the disadvantages of no Google and subpar performance (for a flagship) are too big.
The big question is what will Huawei do, now then they no longer have acces to the latest cpu cores ?
Rh apex.predator, 28 Mar 2020I agree with you dudenot really samsung bad software baby icons cannot be changed like on huawei .. bad chipset .. overheating..
Just admit ppl u don't use google apps at all only YT , and gmail and yet I can install YT vanced so all good
gogu, 27 Mar 2020huawei king at photos, iphone king at videos, samsung more balanced I agree with you dude
Raffel, 27 Mar 2020Am i the only one that prefer Huawei p30 pro's notch over this massive punch hole?thing is, options are limited here, you can pick several available options here: punch hole, notch, or go to very outdated style - small bezel.. seems people nowadays are very allergic to bezel even it's just less than 5mm while couple years ago we lived in era where bezel on our phones is more than 1cm, So, the options left either punch hole or notch, since last year they were using notch, so today they are using punch hole, and punch hole are current trend now, lol.
ypcx, 28 Mar 2020they screwed it up with that narrow ultrawide. i guess they always have to screw it up somehow. You get a class leading per-pixel level detail in return, so I think it's a good trade off. But it all comes down to a personal preference whether you consider wider field of view or absolute image quality more important.

Remember Mate 30 Pro later received the software update to get the same software tuning as the one sent to DxOMark for the review?
Anonymous, 28 Mar 2020a very wrong time to launch amid Coronavirus pandemic... Not, this phone is sars-cov-2 free. Whats more worrying is they use just part of sensor in auto mode of normal fov, so details are about the same as p30pro which is also with apps.
Also to not forget the worst scenario already passed in china where they got most sales...
