Anonymous, 30 May 2020HDR and natural together do not exist in photography. White balance is the first thing change... moreDo you even know what HDR is? You can take three shots separated by 1/3 or 2/3 exposure stops and still get natural-looking photos. Although that is not enough to prevent the highlights from blowing out in some cases. If you have used a proper camera, you will know that you can customise the exposure stop difference in HDR mode. And this option is missing from smartphones. Don't condemn HDR just because of your ignorance. You keep repeating the same statements like a broken record. I will repeat my explanation as many times as needed to get this into your head.

Also another obsession is with night modes where there is no essence of the night!! Oh let's just make everything look like day with blue night skies lol
We all should go back to reality. Just view the samples of DPReview and choose some of the better compact camera there with the same scenes. You can see that smartphones still can‘t really compete with real cameras.
So, nobody should pay more than 800, 900, 1000 Dollar/Euro for a smartphone. Manufacturers should step up their game or stop the strategy of tiny optimizations every year for higher and higher prices. It‘s ridiculous.
Btw. It would be much better if Sony would introduce new models of their QX-Lenses. This was a really nice concept and nobody would have the idea to buy a new phone every year only because of a little better camera.

P.s you haven't read properly the reviews XPERIA 1 MARK 2 WON'T RUN 3k videos not 4K!
So it is 4K on spec sheet and it's only 2K. Bonus it is 2007 ish 60hz and 500nits. Best buy in 2020! :)

So yes, it's completely up to Sony what framerates will be accessible to 3-rd party camera apps.
BTW. In the last sentence of my previous comment I meant 60 to 50fps interpolation, not 60 to 25fps
To all HDR people that need to tone down a bit their fear of overexposure as well as underexposrue. Take a look at this craptastic photo made by Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro cause that's everything that is wrong with HDR photography. We have a indoor scene that is evenly exposed like outdoor scene showing through out of the window, not only that this is wrong but it also looks like someone has photoshoped the landscape into the window opening, very poorly btw.
And to add to the insult dxomark thinks this is excellent dynamic range LOL!

So it is not 4 k and it is not even 3 k
It runs qHD (2K) only! 500nits? My find x2pro has more than 800. And 120hz. And bigger size screen. And not 21:9. And not 60hz like 2007 smartphone.
Anonymous, 30 May 2020The camera seems to be a total disaster. Horrible tele lens quality, wrong tele specifications... moreApple HDR and natural don't go together at all. Unless you love those tone mapped dirty clouds and sun to be scaled to the level of a table lamp hotspot when shooting directly at it. There are some people who love that kind of crap. HDR like andy HDR kills the contrast and to counter that image post processing called tone mapping is what boosts the contrast back big time. It's a hit or miss depending on the scenario but HDR is not the way to shoot on mobile unless you have huge amounts of light in the scene and burn out is inevitable.
saved, 30 May 2020just try mcpro24fps on your phone, you'll be surprised. Custom bitrates, custom codecs, custom... moreThere are many external camera apps out there with different framerates but whether they actually work or not is determined by the phone manufacturer and camera2api limitations of the particular phone. If Sony decides to limit 4K60fps exclusively to Cinema Pro, it's likely that no external apps will have access to these settings over camera2 and max out at 4K30 only.
Interpolation from 60 to 25fps, no matter the software, is completely useless as all framerates below 30fps are jerky and stuttery (24fps look decent in cinema because of dark environment and double exposure of every frame in cinematic projectors, but on computer screens and in daylight 24/25fps videos look very annoying) and NTSC > PAL conversion which is overally unrecommended, would only make things worse, as choice between skipping frames and optical flow/twixtor artifacts is nothing pleasing... Though I'm wondering what would be more smooth: native 25fps (boosted to 50fps with DaVinci Opt Flow where possible) or 60fps interpolated to 25gps. Geez, native 50fps on the phone camera would make things way way easier...

Energy is lost in the form of heat.
Charging without changing temperature would require 100% efficiency.

The one thing I like about this phone is the heat suppression on the device. High refresh rates and pro cameras be damned give me longevity on my battery and I'll be hooked on your brand for good
How in the world did you disrespect the LG v60 which matches up well to the Sony Xperia 1 II only missing telephoto.
For $699 it to has a flat screen headphone jack pro manual video audio photo app standard.
It also has a larger oled but only 1080p+.
60 hz also.
Sony also has the great eye auto focus and a very light skin over android.
But LG hits back with best in class 4 mics standard recording audio app and optional active pen support and optional dual screen support and a 5000mah 2 day battery
