Think twice.
back in 2016 Sony Xperia Z5 has 1920*1080 RGB pixels.
Same years' Samsung Galaxy S6 has 2560*1440 green pixels, 1280*720 blue and red pixels. In fact, Z5's display was twice better even though it has lower CLAIMED resolution.
Now, Xperia X1m2 offers 4k, but because of Pentile technology, there's no 4k resolution in all three colors, and only in year 2019 and 2020 the phones FINALLY reached the true FullHD which has been available to the society since 2013 in Xperia Z1, Z2, and QHD which came out with LG G3 and G4.
What is your point? You prefer.. ahem, a onePlus screen with brighter screen at HD resolution (because of pentile, there's no QHD in red and blue) in 120 hz? Go ahead.

But I'm using XZ premium..it has 4k screen in 5.5inch display.. 800+ ppi and after using it I realized the difference of 4K. My dad uses IPhone X, sis uses S9. Both are great displays.. And apart from max brightness (which we rarely use) this displays seems great. And I'm never using it above 60% brightness.. GSM said dimm display for XZ premium too.. And yes they are right technically when they compare it, but from a user perspective it's more than sufficient brightness, Infact i never face any problem in direct sunlight.. Sony has some technology, it boosts contrast in sunlight. Never faced an issue with display.. And after using this phone I don't think I'll like 1080p displays ever.
I remember back in 2005 when Sony and their partner Ericsson were leading on camera phones. Their Cybershot phones were in the top. Today you see Sony's flagship models struggling to reach even what the competitor's midrange phones offer.

Xperia 1m2 has 4k green pixels and 2k blue and red pixels. Finally an OLED phone that has at least native FullHD resolution in all three colors.

go to wikipedia and read about pentile
Fearghast, 30 May 2020Thank you GSM I postponed my preorder. Dimm screen, battery issues, speaker loudness etc. I... moreThe dim screen is a compromise they have to make because of the 4K resolution. But it is so laughable when some people here try to justify every decision Sony makes. If you value high resolution, get an Xperia. If you value smooth animations, get another phone with 120 Hz. Don't have to put down other brands to make Sony look good. As long as a few certain Sony fans here don't get this into their head, Sony threads will continue to attract criticism.
Asphalt-nation, 29 May 2020So, actually, the Xperia 1 II screen runs at 1,096 x 2,560, period.
This is way less than QHD... moreyou have no idea how OLED screens work.
This is 9 pixels on an IPS screen with standard subpixel layout:
RGB RGB RGB
RGB RGB RGB
RGB RGB RGB
This is 9 pixels on a standard OLED display with Pentile subpixel layout:
RG BG RG
BG RG BG
RG BG RG
Where R, G and B are red, blue and green dots.
Actually, Xperia 1 and 1m2 are the only OLED screens on the market that at least has FullHD in blue and red colors and 4k in green, whereas Samsungs, LGs, iPhones, Huaweis, 1+ and other phones with OLED screens have QHD in Green and HD in Blue and Red, or/and FHD in Green and 540p in Red and Blue.
Learn the technology next time before posting dumb comments.

But hiding it gives the same bezel size as Xperia phones. And most videos on youtube are still in 16:9. So 21:9 Xperias don't hold any advantage over phones with cutoff/notch.

CPU/GPU is not just for games. Again talking like uneducated guy
"Customers want progress..."- Don't rub your opinions on others. I'm also a customer. I don't want 120Hz at sacrificing battery and size of smartphone.
Just because guy who made this biased review could not run 4K in youtube, doesn't mean that smartphone can't run 4K. There are already Xperia 1 users and you know that right?? 4K is not a new feature like you just wake up today after 6 years hybernation. People can run 4K UHD in Netflix and run 2160p in youtube. So you can keep your hatred for yourself.
Why do you need 120Hz for watching a video? Are you insane?? WTH is colorfully HDR??
4K is superior to QHD+. Sony can run in creator mode where it covers BT2020 where none of your smartphones can do it. Also Xperia has always been have lass delata values compared to other flagships. Also accurate colours at all brightness levels. No burn ins as well. So you can keep your opnions to yourself and go to some other thread.

Long ass phone. Deal breaker. Should be no more than 155mm long. They should be like sammy and apple. A standard and plus size for consumers to choose! Failed
[deleted post]Sony is kicking ass? Where? Didn't even manage half a million sales in Q1 2020 worldwide?
Others are selling that Many units in one flash sale.
Where exactly is it kicking any body's ass?
Oh yeah they are indeed getting kicked out of countries by having to close shop since no one wants to buy them.

At first I regretted it but now I'm glad that I've gone with the S20 Ultra... looks like the "professional grade" cameras aren't all they're cracked up to be (not that Samsung's cameras are much better, but at least you have more options) and the phone is pretty average as far as flagships go. Sure the headphone jack is nice to have but I've already made the wireless transition a long time ago. After the recent update the S20 Ultra has no issues focusing on stuff either. I wouldn't say this phone is worth the asking price. Neither was the S20 Ultra, but if you're gonna spend this amount of cash on a phone, you might as well go with the more beefy, flashy phone.
Shanti Dope, 30 May 2020Then what’s the purpose of having it in the first place? A screen portion that cannot be used... moreGain that area to the notifications, battery, etc icons. When you mask them due to aesthetic reasons or simetry or whatever you want, you still use that area to the notifications, so you don't lose it. At the end, you have a bigger portion of the screen to general content thanks to the notch or punch hole and a bigger effective area of screen without the need to make the phone larger. It works. Another history is if you prefer other style. I prefer a less larger phone with equally diagonal display than these elongated (21:9) remote TV controls as phones.
I'm hoping the battery life is the biggest saving grace here. We already saw the pattern where every Sony halo flagship battery life turns out better in every iteration.
Z5 Premium (3430 mAh, 20nm SD810) -> 66hr ER
XZ Premium (3230 mAh, 10nm SD835) -> 72hr ER (+6hr)
XZ2 Premium (3540 mAh, 10nm SD845) -> 77hr ER (+5hr)
1 Mark I (3330 mAh, 7nm SD855) -> 79hr ER (+2hr)
1 Mark II (4000 mAh, 7nm+ SD865 5G) -> ?
BTW, the comment section is similar to the one to XZ2 Premium where negativity outperforms positivity, where Xperia 1 comment section is similar to the one to XZ Premium where positivity is much louder than negativity. A pattern again? Sigh...
Anonymous, 30 May 2020Just asking for it.
You can hide the cutoff/notch.Then what’s the purpose of having it in the first place?
A screen portion that cannot be used is a massive waste of usable surface area.
They shouldn’t have existed in the first place. Contents are made to maximize the whole display, and then we get these phones that goes against that purpose. What a lame joke.
Anonymous, 30 May 2020No one picked up the dynamic vibration feature though. Even Sony dropped it. Not all gimmicks ... moreObviously because only Sony offers such feature like on their PS4 DualShock Controller.
One feature not being picked up by the others doesn’t make an excuse for doing so for the other features. Even the glass sandwich design of most modern smartphones today, which started with the iPhone 4, was designed by Sony in the past, so technically they still pioneered this aesthetic “for smartphones.”
You treat it as an entertainment simply because you can’t digest the fact that what I’m saying reflects the reality. Glad you’ve enjoyed it though, so stay there in your fantasy world for longer. I understand your need for happiness, and it so happened to be in that world you’ve made up in your mind, :)))
