But then give the ROG 2 a rating of 4.8/4.9 since it's a monster within its own gaming category, right? Since camera doesn't matter at that point. Yet that's not what GSMArena did, so might as well compare it against the P40 Pro+ and all other flagships, and give it the rating it deserves.
Also, good on paper is sth you say because you haven't experienced the ROG 2. I own one as my daily device and it's certainly premium enough. Not ceramic premium but I don't spend over 800 $/€ on a device. And the build quality is just fine.

That had nothing to do with their 5G networks. You could say it was part of the trade war with China but it did help to stifle competition against Apple in the US market.

Iphones will never be assembled in USA, as Tim C stated has once, production costs would raise by $150-200.
Huawei and ZTE have 5G network, that is why Trumps wanna kick them out.
Nothing to do with iphone sales, otherwise he would do same to Samsung.

Hang on a minute I thought this was true 10x optical zoom not upscaled. None the less the images are great especially that wide angle detail. Night shots look better using auto

I don't really get how can be the best rated phone this year, when it has so many compromises for price asked.
I've used Huawei in the past but C'mon this is beyond ridiculos.
No stereo speakers, no jack, propietary cards, lack Of G services and that means you can even watch HD content on Netflix or amazon. Hilarious.

-low bitrate issue in videos still not fixed.
-can't turn off AIS.
-Cine lens has subpar video recording compared to competitors.
-lower resolution screen with no 120hz refresh rate.
-battery is below average compared to other 90hz phones on the market despite lack of play services hogging in the background.
-ugly notch.
-No stereo speakers.
-No 3.5mm jack.
-lack of availability.
-high price.

Antenna problem, ghost touches, screen cracking in winters.
Software takes lot of time to fix bugs as well.
Nobody wants to pay 1000 dollars for sub par user experience.
One is better off with an 2020 or 2019 Android flagship.

P40 is instantly more premium than the ROG Phone with bad build quality. Heard some Indonesian and Malaysian users have issues with either the first or second gen ROG Phone. Specs on paper do not justify a high rating.
P40 Pro+, except the price tag and lack of GMS, truly deserves this rating.

3x zoom compared to the main camera is actually pretty disappointing. When both cameras have the same thing in focus, the difference is not very big, besides the main camera having some issues with moires (which you could probably work around with if you use RAW). The 3x camera is a bit better, bit not exactly three times as good resolving details. Far from it. I think Huawei cheaped out on the sensor, holding back the 3x camera. That is disappointing for what the P40 Pro+ is supposed to be.
The 10x camera is very good, only problem is you need to be pretty far away to make use of it.

Well, this phone has too many flaws for the score granted.
- For 1400 euros tag, it shuld be at least 500 ppi.
- the cpu is not new, Hauwei should change this instead of bringing new cpu only with Mate.
- it does not have ddr5 ram because of the cpu
- annoying nano sd card
- no 10bit videos
- mono audio
- no HD streaming
- no google apps
I was expecting better photos for this hardware.
- Wide cam is less sharp than ultra wide as someone here has pointed out. It has huge corner softness on the right side.
- night photos have red tint where public lighting is yellow. It does not seem case of underexposure, because it would show orange hues. Even the sunset shot are awful.
I doubt this slow motion is real instead of interpolation.
With all this high number of frames, footage would be too dark because each frame has much faster shutter speed. Even worse because it was indoor situation and 720p.

Wait until Sony releases their first major update and the 4.3 star review will turn into 4.6 or 4.7 just because of the Battery Tests, fixes and updates to the camera, paying attention to DSEE Ultimate and other audio gimmicks that are actually best in class and more.
