Dolle, 29 Sep 2020Is it better than the Samsung note 10? This is also quite compact.😂😂😂 are you serious? that crap note 10 was already outdated in 2019
Preordered the Xperia 5 II on day one. To be honest I was thinking of waiting for a price drop but it was bundled with free WH-1000XM3 headphones! Couldn't resist... :)
We'll never understand how Sony names their products
Lol
L.O.R.D, 29 Sep 2020There's something called 'wear and tear' and no matter how well or properly one... morewhile i must agree generally about "wear and tear"... usb port seem to be strong, at least from what i observed from my phones...
my miro still has good usb port, but the power button is a bit hardpress...
my z1 compact, good port, but its getting bulge, i think its pregnant, just kidding, i think it needs a new battery...
my other phones are all good... but i hear some people, mostly over the internet complaining about their struggle on "aligning" their charging cables well to the port, though not sure if it is really the port or the cable
Haters excuses:
A) 2015 : only Htc, Sony and Motorola have stereo
- Haters : who uses tiny phone speakers? Stereo is useless, get a BT box.
B) 2020: almost all have stereo
- haters: Too quiet speakers, cant hear even 1 inch away from the phone
L.O.R.D, 29 Sep 2020There's something called 'wear and tear' and no matter how well or properly one... moreThen again, some parts are super faulty (looking at you entire HMD Global line). Like my nokia 7.1 charging port died 6 months after it was bought new. Put a new one in, 3 months, put another one in, it has been working for 3 months now.
In this instance, their vibration motor (which vibrates every time it is plugged in) is right next to a half-port (only about 1/3 of the surrounding metal of the standard USB-C port with spring tabs that are significantly smaller than standard. This combo though completely kills those non-standard spring tabs very fast.
This is why component quality matters. There are many parts like this that consumers wouldn't even notice unless it results in problems (i mean, look at the new Nvidia 3080 capacitor faults).
L.O.R.D, 29 Sep 2020There's something called 'wear and tear' and no matter how well or properly one... moreStory time:
I sold my car after 8 years, with about 150,000km. The guy that bought it from me, said the first time when he enter in it: "No way, this car is 8 years old? Did you ever get it out of the garage man?" And I was all over the country with it, including off-road tracks (and the car was a Peugeot 207). And I didn't do anything at it prior of selling it. I just took care of it all 8 years.
Bottom line, there are persons out there that take care of their things (including smartphones). If people are careless when using products, then they will brake something in them even after couple of months.
P.S. I saw some smartphones on some people (they looked they were in the war with them). And only after 6 months of usage. Not to mention some people using their devices with half the display shattered. It looks like spider vision, lol.
So yeah..

Lol doesn't mean you turn off pixels using background will the phone spend its time lighting up the other areas, it's not like those area stay 24/7 to cause burn in. It's still beneficial to use black wallpaper on oled though marginal gains in battery but longevity wise it helps.
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020None of my phones had broken USB. Despite being used almost daily. Broken usb = lack of ... moreThere's something called 'wear and tear' and no matter how well or properly one uses the port, it'll still get loose and eventually break
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020"While OLED can turn off pixels, that is not recommended at all if some pixels are lit on... moreBecause that's how burn ins occur. Some parts always/Mostly turned on (or birghter) while other parts are always or mostly turned off (dimmer) is what causes burn ins. (Also the reason for saying OLED is not good for windows due to always stationary taskbar)
So technically people who say black wallpapers with minimum lights is good, are actually wrong. Thought it saves battery, it will cause burn in around that minimal lighting if kept for very long times same thing.
Good way to avoid burn ins is to utilize all screen equally. Changing/Using different wallpapers, avoiding stationary always on pixels etc is good way to avoid burn ins. My suggestion, don't use same wallpaper or settings for too long.
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020It's not about the convenience, it's about durability issues - I agree it's not... moreNone of my phones had broken USB.
Despite being used almost daily.
Broken usb = lack of proper care from the owner
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020It's not about the convenience, it's about durability issues - I agree it's not... moreWell I guess it all boils down to the quality of the connector component implemented, there are cheaper and more expensive designed ones.
Never had those issues with connectors on Xperias I used tho, not even after 4 yrs using it now.
But I think the lack of the headphone jack is a bigger problem as much as USB connector is concerned. Using same conn for charge and dongled headphones continuously could wear and tear that conn probably.
And there is always that omnipresent problem of battery wear and tear due to heat via wireless charge.
Hammadi, 29 Sep 2020Could you please explain what/why is PWM? And why is it harmful?Controlling screen's brightness via PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) is basically turning on and off its light with certain frequency (instead of having it being lit constantly). Human's eyes react to this flickering and become tired which also can lead to headaches and other stuff. The lesser the frequency - the more and faster eyes get tired. Try to look at a lamp that is blinking twice per second - you won't sustain that for long. Controlling smartphone' screen's brightness via PWM usually uses frequency of ~240 Hz (1 Hz = 1 time per second), which looks big, but it still affects the user badly. People can have different sensitivity to PWM flickering, but it doesn't mean that less sensitive ones are not affected too.
OLED screens use PWM-based brightness control (and on not very high frequencies) due to the nature of OLED, something about longevity as I remember. LCD screens do not need PWM for that, but cheap ones also may use it.
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020It's not about the convenience, it's about durability issues - I agree it's not... moreWhat phones did you use that had issues with USB?
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020"While OLED can turn off pixels, that is not recommended at all if some pixels are lit on... moreBecause those lit pixels use excessive energy due to turned off pixels, they are super bright and their life expectancy will decrease because of it. Also burn in occurs faster on brighter pixels. That's why smart drivers turn on all pixels across the screen at 2-3% when most of the image is black.
tom, 29 Sep 2020Yeah, they do coz if you drop the phone without the case, it breaks. The issue is that sony is... moreAlways buy flagship phones, never use cases - so far so good.
I hate having a slim phone and adding extra bulk, kinda contradictory to actually buying a slim phone..
Tann Hauser, 28 Sep 2020I dont really understand why people hype the wireless charging.
Its all the same to me. Plug ... moreIt's not about the convenience, it's about durability issues - I agree it's not an issue now, but if you want to keep your phone for longer than 2 years (which I'd personally like to if I paid close to 1000 usd for it), the USB connector is inevitably going to feel the lack of the wireless charging... The cables are going to start to wiggle in the connector, it's not going to hold the cable that well, you're going to start experiencing connectivity issues, you're going to have to constantly worry about the cable being positioned well to touch all the contacts, you might even lose some files when transfering from other device because the connector wiggled out, you're obviously going to lose the water resistance in that connector...
All this could've been postponed several years if they decided to give the phone a wireless charging coil. No excuse on a 900$ phone in 2020, sorry.
I want it
