The huge pill is a big turn off. Forget no GMS - it's not an issue to people who know there's more than 1 app for each service (and there are still at least 2 ways to sideload without rooting). I am a fan of curved screens (using a OnePlus 7 Pro and love the display). The camera assembly looks great, much better than those monster islands from Samsung. Just wish it didn't have that huge pill taking up half the notification bar. Probably won't come to the UK either.

They were banned as a result. Huawei was banned even though they complied with US laws and on spurious claims of being a national security risk. There is a difference and it's not China that's the bad actor.

Every Chinese company must cooperate (it's even a law) with the government and the CCP and the easiest way to spy on ppl is to go the smartphone front. I don't say that the phones are bad (that one is excellent) but can you trust a chinese company in terms of privacy? IMHO, I don't trust Huawei or any Chinese company if we talk privacy and security.

I thought google has block every other way to install gms on any huawei phone?Yesterday, XDA even provide an apk file that can easily sideload GMS with less hassle.
Weird, introduced right after Mate 40 announced. Seems like Huawei itself get involved into it (deeply covered), to make people know that there are still alternative way to get GMS, in order to get their phone sold.

Have been looking forward to the release of this to replace my Mate 20 Pro. That was until two weeks ago when the glass over the camera lens broke on my device. The experience of dealing with Huawei's approved repair 'agent' has been shocking. I suspect they are inundated with too many phone repairs - they diagnosed the fault correctly, charged me £148 for the repair but then just sent the phone back untouched claiming it was "beyond economic repair". It's back with them now, they've issued the same quotation to repair it & no mention of beyond economic repair. These 3rd party repair company's are utterly useless when it comes to needing repairs and wholly inappropriate for £1000+ handsets. Huawei - get a grip of this and bring handset repairs in-house.

US banned Google from doing business with Huawei, not China... moredidnt CCP make hypocratic decision? all of google's service is banned in whole China but huawei can do business with google when it comes to earning money from rest of the world. when China bans google thats no problem but when US bans huawei there is so much hue and cry.

Seems the front camera is fixed focus again? Isnt that a step back from the P40 pro?! I have the latter which I got in part because of the auto focus.

Without GMS it's just an expensive paperweight. Sometimes I wish Google would cut support of GMS on iOS. Then we would see how popular/useful iPhones really are.
