I think something must be wrong with the audio testing. It has to be a pre-release version or something. I work with sound and audio and that audio quality on the test in disturbingly close to analog, not even stereo.
I don't believ for a second that a you can make that bad audio quality since 2004 on a digital device even if you tried on purpose.
As i said before, this has to be som kinda of faulty or pre-release version.
They say that there's no videocall camera. But seeing the white X10, I see the ambient light sensor on the left of the earpiece and the status LED light on the right. So what is this (big) black dot inbetween the earpice and the status LED light?? It definetly looks like a videocall cam!!!

I really consider X10 as my next phone, so it would be nice if I was aware of every spec...
I hope that the review will be updated soon, to cover all the missing info.
very interesting, but i really cant believe sony would allow something with their name on it having bad audio come release? especially as the shop they install will be trying to flog music?
lets hope skyfire can bring a flash happy browser to the party. i really like the sound of this phone, cya winmo

The UI is lively and fluid, and looks quite attractive too.
Is this really an in-depth reaview??
There are no comments on the battery strength, the stereo speakers or the speed of the UI!!! What about them??
And one more thing, is there a digital compass or not? It is not in the features list, but it was mentioned in the GPS part of the review...
Sony Ericsson better get themselves sorted out with there current mobiles,as they always seem to let there phones down lately with the Audio an Speakers on there mobiles an if there phones are not sticking to there true value loads with start looking elsewere, they are dropping down quickly in the mobile market an its there fault as the Quality of there mobiles are way below par,C905 an C902 really shows the company up,so something better change soon or the might end up going bust or splitting up

They even brought it to lead EXPERTS and they really praised the sound quality ... moreyes,,,its strange...gsmarena pls buy new x10 to test,,coz reviewing beta unit is not fair.., also i wonder why did they reviewed vivaz long time before its released in the market (so they reviewed beta unit of vivaz).. too bad,,, strange!
Frankly speaking, what's with all the anti-SE or pro-SE comments? This is just a review of one of the latest android phone. Do we really need all the "THIS IS OUTDATED", "SAMSUNG THE BEST", "YOU CAN'T BEAT THIS PHONE"....etc??? If this phone is really that bad, why even bother looking at the review and comment? If you really like and support a certain mobile phone company/model. Might as well leave your comments there? By the way, I am getting this phone, though there are better phones out there. Just a personal preference. Just my 2 cents worth.

Check it out bro.
oh and for all those AMOLED whiners.. TFT is not a drawback here!
i'd stick with this unit over nexus one's AMOLED, thanky you.
"the sunlight legibility is in fact the same as in the iphone 3GS"
While most of AMOLED screens have POOR outdoor capabilities.
So, in a sum up:
When this receives a newer android updates, it WILL have 16M colors, multitouch, and with a greater camera and larger screen, media and time scape, will left devices such as desire, droid or nexus one behind.
XPERIA X10 is awesome and promising device with great potential!

Anyone know the firmware version that they actually used, just to compare against my own. Oh and thought a litte bit about the face detection would of been nice, such an impressive feature
i am a SE fan
to all SE fans:gsmarena have not used a retail unit of x10 in the review so please wait until gsmarena correct the sound quality and some other little things in the review
Gsmarena check you testing gear! Every other review i've read is praising the sound quality of X10!
Like before when you got the bad W980 results, and the same device won the BEST AUDIO EXPERIENCE recognition by the referent test factory institute! No way SE would give X10 bad sound quality
Anonymous, 27 Mar 2010Its been ages since I've seen a positive review from GSM Arena for a SonyEricsson phone. But i... moreIn fairness, w995 aside, Sony handsets havent warranted positive reviews for the last few years.
Hmm , did not like the review very much , sounds kinda biased , seems like gsmarena doesnt like SE very much ^^
so, among these following "drawbacks" cited in the review
- No DivX and XviD video playback
- No smart and voice dialing
- No free GPS navigation solution
- No Flash support for the web browser
I guess all of them can be resolved by installing 3rd party softwares or via OS update, am I right?
goahead, 27 Mar 2010A Sony device with an average sound quality? How can this be? And I expected this to replace m... moreMusic is said to be really excellent in this review:
"Sound quality is perhaps the most positive surprise, either using the included earbuds or connect your own headset into the 3.5mm end.
Our impression of the sound was so good that we thought it would be nice to hear what a lydekspert had to say about the X10, so we took the trip to the Sound Garden and let the store manager Jørgen Johansen test X10 with a bunch of different ear pads.
- Here is the powerful, rich sound and a well-defined soundstage. In addition, the phone is very accurate bass response, is the verdict from Johansen,
He stressed that the phone is unable to engage in an enthusiast headsets designed for stationary installations, but you hardly find any other phone that manages this, either.
X10 is also a musikktelefon who do not have a trace of hiss in the background when playing music, no matter how low you set the volume. This is a plus in the margin."
