GSMA, the ram on this device is 512MiB, not 256MiB.. Andriod 2.1 + TouchWiz 3.0 Consumes more than that on boot.

It seems like that one who doesn't even know that Galaxy S has a PowerVR SGX, the most powerful 89m triangles/sec GPU in mobile world. Hummingbird rocks.
This is a best phone i have ever see.
GSMarena said: "anyone looking for the ultimate performance has almost no alternatives but the Galaxy S.", which is 100% TRUE.
I really wanna buy it when its available, but one bad thing about me is I care 'design' too. This 'S' design is too boring. Hope samsung will make similar device with Andriod2.2 together with stylish brush metal casing very soon!
Anyway, samsung is a real leader in mobile world!
Anonymous, 23 May 2010> Firstly I should really thanking for the funniest/ironic reply..
Glad I could make you... morejust want to clarify on the ROM thing: the SD card is also sort of what you would call ROM storage, but android can't (yet) run apps from it. Froyo is introducing the feature of being able to install apps to the sd card, which should mean we can install an unlimited number of apps on our devices!
Also i apologize for the spelling mistakes, its pretty late.
Satz, 23 May 2010By the way, What's the point of shooting a HD video and you can't able to play it directly on ... moreAlso, the HD video means you can have HD video. You can play it on the phone, which is capable of playing in HD, or copy it onto a computer or hardrive or the internet or anything. I have never once in my entire life thought "i wish i could connect my phone to my TV". I may be the exception, but I can think of several reasons for recording HD on my phone and then not playing it through an HDTV. Also I thought these samsungs have the ability to play back through a samsung tv anyway? If you look at the ads, they show viea on the phine playing through the tv or something. I dunno, its not a feature i am interested in.
Finally, can I please point out that I have not tried to insult you or anything, and have avoiding (tried to, anyway) personal attacks. You are a very angry person, and I think you should probably calm down. This is just a discussion on the internet. Its not going to hurt you.
Please stop criticizing me personally, when I am just stating my opinion. I may be wrong, in which case correct me, but don't just insult me.

15sec google search:
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/36433-ram-rom-what-do-our-phones-use-what.html
ROM is where android stores the app data that we install. you dont store films and music there, but its where android runs the app data from. so limits on ROM mean limits on the number of apps you can install. once you start an app it loads into RAM, which is why RAM limits the number of apps you can run AT ONCE. just an fyi, I program for a living. I know the difference between ROM and RAM
> I care a lot more for its durability ,Cheapo Plastic = Breaks easy , Aluminum is a hard metal , hello ? common sense ? have you lost it ?
the phone will break long before the plastic does, if you are putting that much pressure on it. metal is stronger, i grant you, but the phone needs protecting from being dropped, etc, which isnt going to to change if you stick metal on the back. the impact from the fall will be the same unless you have some sort of cushiony metal that i dont know about. sitting on your phone/etc wont break the plastic. standing on it will, but if you are going to stand on your phone, then maybe you should pay more for the extra protection i guess.
> Point is N8 has equally/slightly better than average so-called 'real' Camera.
OK. camera is worse on the galaxy. you win that point.
> You don't really know what you are talking about , do you ?
Hey pot, meet kettle.
> I said 'Noice cancellation' for eliminating background noise during video recording. They are two stereo mic on two sides of the phone for that purpose.
ah, I misunderstood, I apologize. I would (honestly) like to see how well this works on the N8. do you have any video links, etc? I know Samsung have a history of terrible audio on their video recordings, so I would like to see an example of it done right.

Since Galaxy S takes crappy so-called HD video you didn't even bothered to think of it ?

Point is N8 has equally/slightly better than average so-called 'real' Camera.
""noise cancellation? I use a bluetooth headset with noise cancellation more often than not.""
You don't really know what you are talking about , do you ?
I said 'Noice cancellation' for eliminating background noise during video recording. They are two stereo mic on two sides of the phone for that purpose.
you can replace N8's battery , all you need to do is to remove the two screws. You will have to do that only once in 2 years.

> "I will give credit to SAMOLED and the use of hummingbird"
These two things make the phone extreamly desirable, as the are the two factors that make it better than most android phones out there. You pretty much dismiss them, when for most people it's the reason we are going to buy the phone.
> "I'm sorry ,what are you going to do with 2GB ROM ? "
HAHA, have you ever used an android phone before? The bigger the ROM, the better. That is why google have made it a FEATURE on the froyo to install apps on the SD card: the more space we have to put apps, the happier we will be!

Have you read the review that you are commenting on:
...
The other element of interest under the Galaxy S back panel is the 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery. It has enough power to get the smartphone through almost two days of extensive usage which we consider a pretty good achievement.
Also, if you disable the data connection, I bet it will last another 2 days on top of this. Its the best battery life ive seen on a such a good phone in a while.
> "Full Flash in the browser."
Skyfire.
> "Web tv, free voice guided turn by turn without the use of internet - ovi maps."
These things have little to do with the phone, and more to do with what apps you install. the android market is getting really big, and has a lot of options.
> "Big advantage is google cant spy on us"
No, nokia can. :P Besides, google will find a way to spy on you without your phone, sadly...
> "N8 has Unibody brushed Anodized Aluminium casing ! not just some cheap plastic iPhone knock-off like Galaxy S."
Not only are backcovers removable and replaceable on all phones, but aluminium is expensive. Plastic is cheap and light and I think looks okay. I don't want to pay for a shiny cover, when I care about the phone a lot more.
I will admit that the camera (inc flash) is an advantage, but I don't see why it is a deal breaker. If you are that bothered by amazing pictures and video you are better off buying a real camera. The lenses on phone cameras are a much bigger limitation than the hardware of the camera itself.
Your other points are all things that YOU personally want in a phone that I bet 99% of samsungs user base dont care about. noise cancellation? I use a bluetooth headset with noise cancellation more often than not. FM transmitter? you can buy those for maybe £5 for amazon if you really really want it, but i bet it would cost £50 extra as a feature in the phone.
HDMI, video out, etc. what do you use your phone for? a mobile cinema? I personally would not make use of most of the extra features the nokia has, and I wouldn't want to pay for them.
In my opinion the info about 256 MB of RAM is not official...
Let me get this clear. When asked if the retail version of this phone would have flash for its 5MP camera, Samsung said yes, and now they release it without flash?
I think we are going to witness something like what happened to Samsung Omnia II.
Everybody complained about the cough"similar"cough design to Samsung Jet and that they didn't include a hole for its stylus, what happened next? They released a Verizon Wireless version of Samsung Omnia with a much better design and oh lala! the stylus could be kept inside the phone. So, I've learnt my lesson. I'm gonna wait 'til the "improved" Galaxy S will be released :)
Only 256 mb of ram & no camera flash. . . those are deal breakers for me.
I think samsung may have screwed this up, how on earth they decided to use 256 mb of ram instead of 512 mb??? are they NUTS? WTF samsung =/ , also no sutter key =(
Anonymous, 22 May 2010N8 videos show it running on unfinished software, okay cool.. it's laggy coz it's not finished... moreI will give credit to SAMOLED and the use of hummingbird.. other than these two.. there is absolutely nothing special in this phone.
""+720p HD recording at 30fps instead of 25 (but really, we only need 24fps to perceive as smooth motion)
+1500mAh vs 1200
+2GB ROM vs 512mb""
Your eyes 'only' see the plus ?
I'm sorry ,what are you going to do with 2GB ROM ?
Android has battery issues you can check blog.gsmarena.com there is even a post about it , it doesn't even last a day.
Nokia always had a strong reputation for batter.. and Sym^3 optimizes it even further. So don't be fooled by numbers.
720p at 30fps ? is your eyes properly working ? if you look at that sample video it barely reaches 20fps and it stutters like hell. You call that 30fps ? and it doesn't even have the sharpness and the quality. It looks like a enhanced WVGA video.
N8 has Unibody brushed Anodized Aluminium casing ! not just some cheap plastic iPhone knock-off like Galaxy S.
5Band 3G
Full Flash in the browser.
BEST camera phone in the industry and has bigger sensor than mid-range point and shot.
HDMI with 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus
Live multitasking.
So two way Video out ! I'm sorry does galaxy S have at least composite video out ? oh wait..........it doesnt. :(
Web tv, free voice guided turn by turn without the use of internet - ovi maps.
Powerful Xenon flash
Stereo Mics for noise canceling during the recoring.
USB-OTG, FM transmitter.
Big advantage is google cant spy on us :P
[deleted post]the number speaks all... how many phone did SE sell and how many did samsung sell...
BTW, Samsung officially announced via their twitter, that they will upgrade Galaxy S to 2.2 Froyo.
Personally,I really like TouchWizz (version 3.0) Very smooth, fluid and colorfull and although it looks similar to the iPhone's OS,I still prefer this because it has more things that makes using the phone more fun :D This is what people usually are looking for,a good specked phone that is fun to use. Still, the Wave is my next phone :P
"Be warned though, you're unlikely to ever go back to LCD again." was a good one ha ha ha
Nice review, though.
