Now, if you had more between your ears than fluff, you'd see that. But unfortunately people like you only care about flashy lights. So sad.
imac, 06 Oct 2010when we talk of build quality we refer to how durable the phone is and how the materials feel ... moreCorrect, except for one thing: there are no IF's about it. It will be a bestseller. The competitors are already feeling the heat, as they have started the hate campaign vs N8. It'll be interesting to see what they will produce in reaction.
It's nice that the N8 is such a great camera phone. The only thing is that Nokia missed the boat with this handset as the mobile paradigm has shifted. It's no longer about the hardware so much as the focus is on OS. This is a sad fact and the reality of the market today. Nokia's going to have a real tough time turning things around based on this handset since people want their apps and Symbian is now defunct. Now if the N8 had Android, then it'd be the toughest kid on the block. Period.
I don't know why! but i really think pixon pics are better!
better colors and contrast
GSM Arena smashed the N97 but now that Nokia have an awesome device all are thinking that they are sold to Nokia!!
Get over it Nokia is back and im selling my Iphone 4 and getting this one if the review shows great audio tru pro headphones!! if it match or beat my Iphone ill buy it and tell Steve Jobs to fuck off!!!
GSMARENA PEOPLE please complete the review with the sound quality of the phone and ...tell us the capabilities of the mono speaker
Thnx
its soooo clear and obvious, my favorite site for phone spec's and reviews is now sold out to nokia, my loss indeed,
its so much clear
now the coin has two sides
1)other blogs are criticizing nokia a Lil bit than it deserves
2) gsmarena trying to defend it, again more than it deserves
only time will say,
as of me, i had pretty awe-full experience with nokia, since last six years , and all my hard earned cash, going to nokia undeserving handsets,
peace ......
I still don't understand why Samsung's Pictures (especially in colour/bw chart) has worse quality compared to when the phone was tested a year ago.
Look at that colour bleeding here, compared to its Pixon-12 vs SE Satio test.
Ahmed, 06 Oct 2010It seems to me that this phone has optical zoom in recording video mode
look at the chart sam... moreTheoretically, from the perspective of how digital zoom just interpolates the pixels, there isn't any difference between the N8's digital zoom and actual optical zoom.
Here's the exact part where Dinning talks about this.
" The video uses a process of pixel binning (so one pixel in the video uses the combined information from several detectors from the image sensor), which "in reasonable lightning conditions" results in no noise at all. This allowed the R&D team to switch off the noise removing algorithms in daylight altogether and preserve as much detail in the video frames as possible.
But the still image resolution of the Nokia N8 image sensor is 4000x3000 pixels, while HD video is just 1280x720 pixels in resolution. This sizable difference leaves plenty of headroom for the pixel binning process and enables another cool feature - video zoom.
Sure, it's digital zoom rather than optical - however the pixel binning process allows for zooming without interpolation, preserving detail and sharpness almost intact between 1x and 2x zoom and all the way to 2.5x. This lead to the decision to limit digital zoom at 3x where the image quality already starts degrading. Damian Dinning says that the digital zoom on the Nokia N8 is as good as optical zoom - check out the crops below to see for yourselves. "
Here are the snaps from the video at different zoom levels.

So to better understand the whole process and read more about it, do head over to the GSMARENA article. It was really in-depth and very informative to me, and I totally understood it when I saw "unrealistic results" from samples months ago (the cartoon on TV footage?)

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2010Videos Laggy, what can you expect from 25 frames BS LMAO iPhone 4 beats the N8 in video, lo... more'what can you expect from 25fps'. Considering that the iphone you praise boasts JUST 30fps which is not much more, i'ld say that you're a dumb and jobless hater. I highly doubt if any individual would be able to tell between two exact videos with a 5fps deficit in one. Be rational people.
bb, 06 Oct 2010Being a best Nokia smartphone since N95 is not that difficult i think, they had no good phone s... moreOkay, that was a very stupid comment. Considering that bracket contains devices such as the e52, e55, e71(which outsold the iphone 3gs btw), n85, n86 and the n79. Get some common sense.
The Smart Digital Zoom thing about it getting better only after a certain Zoom level, i.e. the phone using the smart feature of the zoom only after a particular zoom level, well, that isn't a bug. As in, it isn't that occurred by error. In the interview with Dinning, he clearly talks about the whole smart zoom process and does mention this part about it's activation after a certain zoom. So that, as your only error I think :) should be rectified. And please, I look for reviews all the time here, and you've kept me, and I guess us, waiting the longest for the N8's!
It seems to me that this phone has optical zoom in recording video mode
look at the chart sample "digital zoom sample".
What the difference between this and real 3x optical zoom?
mike, 06 Oct 2010right after reading SOME PEOPLE would not even notice the lack of pixel density in the display... moreIts actually scientific fact that at a distance of more than 40 centimeters its impossible to see the difference. The human eye has this issue. Has nothing to do with bias.

I'm disgusted. Who do GSMarena think they are! What right do they have to attempt to write a review based on actually using a phone rather than what they are told they should think! Will they be biased if they say the Desire HD is a good phone? Say what you like about the phone but don't make yourself look stupid by claiming a reputable review site is being paid to like a phone for it's merits.
What's wrong with 25fps? Most Blu-ray movies are 24fps as that is how they are filmed.
mike, 06 Oct 2010right after reading SOME PEOPLE would not even notice the lack of pixel density in the display... moreIt is because N8 pixels+looks perfect for human eyes.maybe nt for microscope. Iphone screen pixels are the best. All agree with that.
Videos Laggy, what can you expect from 25 frames BS
LMAO iPhone 4 beats the N8 in video, look how the tides have turned
Man lets all goto McDonald's, Lucky GSMarena office in rite in front of Mcdonalds
mike, 06 Oct 2010right after reading SOME PEOPLE would not even notice the lack of pixel density in the display... moreUm, where exactly did it say that? I read nothing about a side by side comparison. The review I read said this :
"Not everyone needs that kind of pixel density though, and some of the users probably won’t even be able to find the difference."
Which is perfectly true!
