In the Engadget Mobile podcast, just a few hours ago, Myriam Joire, aka TNKGRL, who is a cameraphone expert said:
The Nokia N8 is in a class of its own. It is even better than many point and shoots in many situations. Nothing comes close to the N8 in photo and video performance.
I think between her expert opinion, and GSMArena's review and blind test, we can safely say the N8 is the best cameraphone on the market, by a wide margin. The Pixon is NOT close. At all.

I'm not a cheerleader of this phone. I don't plan on buying one, but I've seen it and USED it and it is so far a cut above the X6 that it makes your statement even more laughable!
have seen a working one and its a bit......meh,

just kinda like an upgrade to the x6. Nokia is miles behind in the touchscreen and smartphone market but fortunately enough their year targets are achieved by sales of the tradition button phones like 6303 and 7230
No doubt N8's camera performs exceptional (although OS is still a lackluster) but here is the problem is comparing to phones with almost 1/5 years difference in release date right?!
i mean is it right to compare 2011 Toyota RAV 4 with 2009 Hyundai Tuscon?!
So i think what M8910 Pixon 12 done 1/5 years ago (there was no 12 Mega Pixel Nokia phone at the time!) is way more impressive than you beating benchmark by a small margin, the benchmark that was set 1/5 years ago!!
...Cheers from Germany.
This is why I like Symbian better than iOS. Want to make changes? No worries - unless you break something major it'll still work just fine and it's pretty unlikely you'll brick your handset.
Compare this with every new release of iOS - it invariably bricks some phones and is followed by a secondary patch.
Interesting about the battery life. Tech Radar - who do use standard tests - found that the N8 would last about two days but the SGS would last only a day and a half despite having a bigger battery.
But then who cares about the SGS? This topic's about Nokia's N8 right? Only a complete dork would go on and on about something that 90% of the people reading this topic don't care about, right? :)
okie i read the blog and it says 42 hrs of battery life well thats fine m happy coz 1 day battery is far enough coz i have current at my home to charge the and its not like i need a phone which can stay for 3to 4days..
and for nokia hatters :
why dont u admit dat n8 is best designed
1.u pple complaint that pixon rocks in camera fine but its nt a smartphone only camera dats all
2.the iphone guys say that he wants higher resolution display den why dont he need higher camera? but he tells 5mp is fine
3.in real life many times u have experienced that only if i can copy files from my friend on spot ...now it can be done by n8
4.now that nokia has shown that it is possible to have usb support and hdmi and a camera ...others can try their best to come up with more innovative features ...
to gain something u need to loose something
u want such cool features for u got a bit less battery and 420hz less speed but still it works well rite but instead u gaining some cool features man...
no phone is perfect in this world nor it will be
everyday the requirement changes and people are never satisfied ...
Problem with Samsungs Cell Devices and the Galaxy line is no different is that they are all foam and no beer. They are a sandwich short of a picnic. A taco short of a combination plate.
They look great on paper, but in the real world, they don't quite match up to the hype. Samsung writes checks that their products just can't cash.
I owned a Samsung Vibrant, so I know.
[deleted post]"about the N8 one of the most commented on and popular on this forum! ha ha ha"
in fact half of the comments are mine:). he he he.
had a hands on in bangalore today.. not good :( slow compared to wave/iphone
Orange n8 looks shweet!!
Not the best phone in its category. Maybe because of its raw usability, but for some reason I never get bored using a nokia like I have with a Samsung or a Sony Ericsson. The only time I would get excited over a phone would be if it came with bose sound:)!!!
comm, 13 Oct 2010Noise Cancellation - I think this is the line deserving the most attention. Again the best com... moreNot to forget, the same noise cancellation hole doubles up as a microphone to offer stereo voice recording for the videos recorded on the N8 !!!
Way to go , Nokia !!!
Went to the priority dealer today with great expectation.... was waiting for the N8 madly in the last few months.... :( but was quite disappointed to see the live model. I expected it to display similar vibrant colors as my current wave if not better than it. I hope Nokia ll do something on this front...
Noise Cancellation - I think this is the line deserving the most attention. Again the best communication quality will be coming only from a Nokia phone :)
There is a serious problem with comparison videos which are converted to 30fps for Youtube. While Iphone and Wave footage looks good because frame rate stayed the same, N8's footage was converted from 25fps and suffers from ghosting, doubled or blended frames, whatever you wanna call it.
Similar thing would have happened if you converted other phones' footage to 25fps. N8 would look correct then, and others like crap.
Conclusion: You can't just convert and combine videos with different frame rates and expect the resulting comparison to be even remotely correct or fair.
Also, sample video 2, which contains only N8 footage, is convereted to 30fps and that's just silly.
[deleted post]What sense does that make. Any picture taken with any MP is downscaled to fit the the previewing. Then you click the image and view it it. Nothing is cropped.
And I can see through this message under me that you're obviously trolling. I don't know what you have to gain by this but, whatever. I've had the phone for 8 days and I like it. I don't think it's an iPhone killer or Galaxy S killer. Those things don't matter to me, what matters is I'm happy.
[deleted post]so i guess, while taking pictures, you tune down your camera to 3.2 megapixels, coz it is above HD ???
the point in having a 12Mp shooter is to get stunning details and even when you zoom in, you can see way beyond what a 5MP would show you.
Anyway, i dont blame you.
you already have a galaxy S !!!
i agree it is a good phone !!!
i would have bought it if the N8 had not arrived !!!
too bad for the Galaxy S. a lot of people will opt for the N8 !!!
A.S, 13 Oct 2010Ur right!! ! bcuz of this android users are increasing! and symbian users(i've been usig since... moreActually,
N91, N73 and the biggest of all, the N95 went on to be the biggest Nokia hits.....
nokia has not had anything revolutionary since then, but the N8 has a lot of Firsts in in and will surely take the market by storm..
