I think gsm are being a bit hard on the desire hd, i know they were expecting the absolute perfect phone from htc, but in the comparison with the galaxy S, they seemed to leave out that the superAMOLED screen is extremely saturated and pictures and movies on the screen look false and unrealistic. They mention the brightness of the screen being harsh on your eyes when reading the ebooks, well just imagine how harsh the superAMOLED display would be, they send the source of the light directly to your retina, which just can't be that good for your eyes. Also the desire hd has 3mega pixels up on the Galaxy S. So its image quality is going to have the potential to create superior pictures. The Galaxy S also doesn't have a flash which is ridiculous, say goodbye to taking pictures or video in dim light. Whereas the desire hd has a super bright dual LED flash. The galaxy S, as mentioned by another person, feels extremely wobbly and unstable and plasticy. It does that annoying thing where it makes a creeking noise if you squeeze it and almost feels flexible. Actually, if u take off the back cover, you can actually bend it , which doesn't inspire confidence in its build quality. And its an absolute finger print magnet! I think that aside from its hd video playback and battery life, the desire hd comes out on top in every regard!.........Hope that helps with your decision!
for all people who have battery problem, go to settings - applications - development - usb debugging and tick the box, job done, heavy use one day, normal use 2 day, light use up to 3 days, if not some app killing you battery - install watchdog, any questions, fell free, using for over 3 weeks very happy, best phone on the market for the moment.., phone is great, just so many people can't setup phone properly...

Has GSMArena really tested the Locations app WITHOUT data connection?
I was abroad a few weeks ago and my DHD would not get a GPS fix. I thought this might be for the tall buidlings in New York so I went to Central Park, sat there for a few hours and no GPS fix, nothing!
The Locations app still thought I was in Belgium, at exactly the last place were I had my data connection turned on.
For a few seconds I turned on data roaming (which costed me almost as much as my DHD all together, sort of speak ;)) and within 2 seconds: fix!!
Turned data connection off again --> fix lost
so as far as I can see, there is no GPS fix possible without data connection in the Locations app.
Ed, 12 Nov 2010Hmmm. Good review. Bit stuck for choice now. Was going to upgrade in January and make the big ... moreCamera quality ---> Samsung
Adaptability and stability of the OS ------> HTC
Office docs are important -----> HTC
Battery Life -------> Samsung
Hmmm. Good review. Bit stuck for choice now. Was going to upgrade in January and make the big jump to Android (currently on Samsung i8910 HD) which I love but seems to be pretty outdated and offer no chance of upgrading at all.
Going to be looking at either Samsung Galaxy S OR HTC Desire HD, but not sure which yet. Lots of talk about software vs hardware going on.
Is the screen of the Galaxy really that much better than the Desire? Is the camera on the Desire really that bad? I had a look at shop samples of both yesterday and the Samsung feels a bit light and plasticky compared to the Desire which felt much better in the hand.
Size and weight are irrelevant to me
Loudspeaker is irrelevant, but sound through headphones is important
Camera quality is important
Adaptability and stability of the OS is important
Office docs are important
Any suggestions as to which one I should go for?
Finally the review is finished. This is a fantastic phone! It has so many applications, it has a GOOD CPU, it has 768 Ram, it has a very big screen, it has a good camera. The UI is awesome too! HTC you are the BEST!!!
Why is the Scene app the same as the old Symbian S60 Nokia E72. When they selected Business theme and Personal. It was Nokia that come up with that. The Desire HD is a good phone no doubt but most of the app is exactly like Symbian except in a different wrapper. Symbian was the 1st that did multitask screens as well.
So why is it that people say that my Nokia E72 is backdated and my Nexus One and Samsung Galaxy S is cool. Respect has to be given to my Symbian coz they've benn using this technology for years..
Anonymous, 12 Nov 20104.3" is just too big for a phone.
I think 4" is the perfect size.So we can measure the distance between "too big" and "perfect" as 0.3 inches???
Stupid comment.
This review makes no sense. Gsmarena first said this device has a S-LCD display which is no match to S-AMOLED or Retina, but then again on last page they said the display will challenge S-AMOLED or Retina. What is the meaning of this?
And is it true that this device doesn't have a S-LCD display? S-LCD display is not that bad which the comparison pictures with Galaxy S, Wave 2 and iPhone shown.
After several days with this phone,I think HTC has the prize of worst phone producer in 2010,this phone is waste of money, when u see their web site u know how much they laying on what they wrote about this phone, battery life is the worst ever even the most cheap Chinese phones is much better, audio is a big shame from acompany like HTC to produce such a bad quality, camera even 2megapixle phones can produce better, screen is very normal,I think HTC they need somebody to teach them how to make a phone .they have to teach others how to produce a low quality products.if they have a pride they should refund people who bought such a cheated mobile
Just recreating sth old. What HTC is used to do these days.
Disappointed with the audio performance. Battery is a non-issue as long as it lasts 12 hours. Does the poor audio performance relate only to the bundled headphones or would third party sound crap too?
Hey Guys
There seems to be a common theme with this phone poor battery life, i've read many articles mentioning you can switch of 10 different things to extend battery life - can you buy a 1500 for this phone? i've heard generics are worse than the original 1230.
Was eargly looking to buy this phone but now not sure... Which would you guys recommend: Iphone4 or HTC Desire or BB Torch?
Alot of articles rate the Desire as the best phone?
Igniter
UI elements have been shamelessly copied from the iPhone including the magnifying glass for place cursor and the alarm app as well. Dissappointed by the Audio quality... the Galaxy S in my opinion is a much better choice.
i think it,s wonderful size if u want compare it with the dell or galxsy tab and by the way like i said it,s so fast and if u want the video get butter try micro sd class 6 an d anther battery from ebay all 2gther 20 pound but after that u will not have any pro and the fasts mobile phone ever
whats the point of making a bigger screen if the resolution is the same to the galaxy S 4" screen?
4" S-Amoled>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4.3 LCD
I've had this for about 2 weeks, the only negatives are the poor battery life and poor sound, otherwise I love this phone. I was concerned it might be too big, but it fits in my shirt pocket no problem.
You can get a bigger capacity battery of ebay for around £8...
4.3" is just too big for a phone.
I think 4" is the perfect size.
