Well, after a good day of tinkering with the phone...
Here are my thoughts...
Bearing in mind I had a Galaxy S before the GS2...
Firstly, I was worried about getting something so similar, I never use Touchwiz (I use ADW or SPB, actually changing every so often just to keep it fresh) so that wasn't the issue...
It was just, a lot of people are saying how good the screen is, but after having a GS1 - you kind of take that for granted... as reviews say it is very similar.
I can tell you having them side by side - the GS2 looks sharper and brighter and just a LOT more impressive...
The real difference is the shape / weight... the GS1 appears cheaper and chunkier than the GS2 (and it's not either!) but somehow the GS2 just makes it look like a poor man's copy...
I'm not going to go into too much depth, but suffice to say...
Major stand-out points..
The camera is just AMAZING - fantastic flash (even though not xenon) and great pictures... and it's soooo quick in starting up and taking photos (really impressive)
And speed is the main key here - my GS1 would crash quite often, it'd certainly lag and stutter, and just trying games like bejeweled 2 and RUA - the performance difference is REALLY noticeable... flowing between screens using different UIs is just brilliant, it really does set the benchmark - and the screen feels closer to the finger - which sounds strange but makes it feel really great to touch...
Sound-wise - much louder speaker (I found the GS1 a little too quiet) - but still easily coverable with your finger should it go off by accident...
Finally (and normally the biggest issue) - battery...
Well, it's only a day old, and I know batteries can take up to a week to get into their stride...
I'd say it was 1.5x better than GS1 - but obviously this varies on the widgets / data you use (I have quite a few which does suck the battery - time to reduce the frequency of updating them I think!)
Am I happy? Very.
I was worried that it wasn't different enough to warrant sticking with Samsung (I don't have a particular preference in company) - but I'm glad I did, it's simply the best phone on the market bar none - and it's going to take a heck of a lot to beat it...
Did I mention just how good the camera is??!
:)
Can anyone tell me if NFC will be supported on SGS2 with a software updatte ? or does this require hardware changes ?
Well.. after much deliberation, watching of videos / reviews / comparisons / phones coming out in the next 6 months...
I've gone and ordered a GS2... and that's after having a G1...
Review to follow! :)
(toughest decision on a phone I've made for a looooong time)
docmartsin, 29 May 2011methinks the nokia was detroyed by the android uprising.... even local manufacturers like micr... moreI wouldn't go so far as to say quality, maybe a decade ago, not anymore.
This will hurt them in the long run.
Android is going to dominate, ~1/3 share will become 1/2 by 2015, maybe more.
Hi All,
I don’t know if you guys have noticed this or not…but when the SGS II first came out and was showcased at MWC the icons for Messages and Contacts were different... and now the retail version shows them to be exactly like how they used to be in TW 3.0..Why is that? Even in this review you guys can notice that in some pictures it’s exactly the same as MWC and in some picture it’s different! Why is that so? Can somebody please explain? Or is it because we get an option to change them..
Thanks,

Comeon Apple is the single force da... moremethinks the nokia was detroyed by the android uprising.... even local manufacturers like micromax has android devices.also androis appsmarket has almost all the apps that ios has... apple is quality but is it a value for money??????
There is a semi fix to the battery issues
Companies should just start using lithium polymer batteries!
There are smaller and lighter in weight with higher capacities.
So virtually in the Gs2 you could say maybe they could've put a 2,200Mah in and possibly it would've been the same size.(That is a guestament on the MAH)
Hi,
I tried to run a *.mkv file and the phone tells do not support that file.
The Galaxy S II support or not the *.mkv flles?
Cumps
AnonD-8959, 21 May 2011there is no text reflow !! that's why i'm sticking to my desire hd...Yes it does. Double tap.
Just turn off every services, switch to 2G and treat it like a basic phone and you should get more life of your battery. Then switch on services that only what you will use on that time. But people likes to look cool by turning everything 'on' and then they complain. Well that's what you get for being a hero haha.
iDave, 22 May 2011GSII or Sensation?
Comments for the Sensation seem to be comparing their phone with the GSII ... moreThe Sensation loses to the SGS2 in every way.
Weaker processor, weaker GFX, less RAM, heavier, worse display (Super AMOLED+ is more important than resolution).
Fongy, 22 May 2011I don't LG are a contender in any OS (personally) Sammy I think are better with Android than ... moreWhat I was wondering was if Samsung and LG will stop or continue making WP phones...
Anonymous, 22 May 2011They can't put that big battery in a thin phone like GSII!they cant and they dont have to. just make it 9,99 instead of 8,49
AnonD-5197, 20 May 2011Samsung and LG won't continue to manufacture WP devices?I don't LG are a contender in any OS (personally)
Sammy I think are better with Android than with WM7 - HTC have a good track record, so I think they'll be better...
Personal opinion only of course!
marat, 22 May 2011hey buddy, good point. but dont forget samsung E2370 Xcover has a battery of 2000mAh. why does... moreThey can't put that big battery in a thin phone like GSII!
GSII or Sensation?
Comments for the Sensation seem to be comparing their phone with the GSII yet there seem to be far fewer comparisons the other way round on this thread. Is it because Sensation fans see the GSII as the benchmark to compare with, which shows they have respect for it.
I'm a Sony Ericsson fan myself but the Arc seems to have been left behind in so many areas, so my focus is on HTC & Samsung phone. I like both the Sensation & the GSII but still not made my mind up. What i want is a decent camera and flash. My girlfriend has a Desire, so I'm slightly familiar HTC Sense UI yet I know nothing about Touchwiz.
Thoughts and info welcome
Denzo, 20 May 2011Enough with the rant.. you expect 1.2GHZ dual core running 480x800 to last for 4/5 days HEAVY ... morehey buddy, good point. but dont forget samsung E2370 Xcover has a battery of 2000mAh. why does S2 has only 1650mAh?????
could acutally any samsung engineer give a proffesional comment?
You see...I much prefer the OS that HTC use because they keep it stock!!!
The overlay on the os is not nice those tiles are annoying and irritating to opperate...hardware is very good though. Quite impressed by the screen and cameras!! ....tell me wat u think
Even the "perfect" Samsung Galaxy S II isn't perfect.
I strongly recommend Samsung Galaxy S2 to everyone who wants to buy or upgrade. If u are looking for powerhouse which comes with excellent web browsing, superb still and video camera, best screen, so many good connectivity, superfast, smooth, plenty storage then this is the phone u r looking for.
