rikesh, 08 Oct 2011hahahaha ya but icons have patterns various colors they show notifications they look cool but ... moreThose tiles are animated too if you watch some sample video.
It's not just static tiles, IMO it's more lively than the icon's that were used to.
Problem is we cannot customize these tiles so that it can look better, such as replacing those square/rec into circles or other better looking shapes.
Hopefully in future updates we can also change the background color into something more appealing such as pictures, wallpapers not just plain, blue, green black etc.

von, 07 Oct 2011idk the metro ui looks good in tablets. i'll disable it in my pc. in a phone it looks awful.it... moreIt's the smoothest OS because it's just "text and squares"? LOL! That's one of the silliest comments I've ever read. If WP7 is just "text and squares," the other OSes are just text and icons. So, it's basically text against text and squares against icons (which are, incidentally, nothing but smaller squares, circles, or other shapes). Think before you write, mate.
W7 looks awesome. :)
Can't wait for future updates.
Yes most phone OS nowadays is really hard to tell apart. Glad that microsoft is giving us something new and innovative in terms of OS UI.
Though it will take some time before people will adapt in this new OS but MS is on the right track, with it's partnership with nokia we will be seeing some heavy competition between the current OS/es.
"Windows Phone 7 failed to wow consumers, but it's part of Microsoft's long-term plan and they are not rushing anything. It will soon be joined by Windows 8, which shares the Metro UI, the live tiles, the ARM CPU support and will be sprawling across PCs and tablets in no time."
Xbox 360 2011 Fall update is coming to the general public with the same Metro UI before Windows 8.
...to build one ecosystem.
Sounds great, Apple had success with it and now MS is following the path. I see that they'll have some success too, and Nokia partnership will make it even better.
Wonder if Google will follow them.
After reading that review, this is how I currently see the big 3 OSes.
WP7 Mango: Koenigsegg
Agree is a totally different UI and by the way the most stable and "hic-up" free OS around...
Hearing GSMArena say its truly a competitor is enough to make me give it a hard look. Thanks like always guys....
i'm in love with this metro ui, but i can only trust product from nokia, this is perfect, so i'm gladly going to enjoy the belle update coming soon on my n8 while i hope for the better or say best... i love this
von, 07 Oct 2011idk the metro ui looks good in tablets. i'll disable it in my pc. in a phone it looks awful.it... moreim sorry but your comment is simply stupid, the live tile's use up more system resources then iOS or android (icons)and it still runs faster, BUT that may change with the nexus prime, also looking foward to you guys getting a rewie of the Nokia wp later this month
I have used the OS and have to say information gets faster at my fingertips than any other smartphone OS I have used before (Android and iOS included). The interface design is simple but effective, exactly what the average user might want out of a smartphone for either personal or business use. My only problem with the OS is that as phone screens get larger 4.7inch + the tiles don't adjust (eg more tiles on the screen for the area) and it might seem like it is designed for a child, although being a very powerful integrated OS.
so few comments... this is such a great os, too bad not many people are giving it a chance. you are missing a lot peeps, trust me!
idk the metro ui looks good in tablets. i'll disable it in my pc. in a phone it looks awful.it feels so much is wasted. And this has to be the smoothest OS around I mean with nothing but TEXT and squares to displays that shouldn't be shocking UGGGHHHHH
Okie, with nokia this OS will be very very competitive in the future... fingers crossed.
Great article. You took the time to go over each area that most of us care about. I like your website because it doesn't seem like a bought and paid for site by Apple and Google. i'll wait for the Nokia mango. You are right, Android copied symbian's use of widget pages and app pages. Apple is just boring now. Mango looks hot and better to use, but I think Nokia is the right combination.
Have they solved the problems of not being able to use USSD which is very important in our part of the world where most of the subs are prepaid subs?
