Adamant, 28 Jun 2012How can enjoy videos & photos with that low resolution screen?Everyday use means the smoot... moreI really enjoy watching videos with N8. PV and N8 don't have too much different in terms of resolution. It is actually good enough though not the best.
I can capture high definition video and image without loosing any details and view it at my dekstop if needed. But i cannot do it with any other phone in the market. Pls don't tell me to bring a bulky DSLR to everywhere i go.
I think Belle is really smooth and user friendly already. Have you personally try it before you comment? Can share to me which part of belle is not smooth or user friendly?
I don't need those cool effects that Androids & IPhones have. What is it for? To me those are not really helping me or practical in my daily usage.
I have enough apps on my N8, i don't think i have miss out any "cool" apps that are really "useful".
Well i will go for "useful" apps instead of "cool" but not so useful.
True that i dont buy a cellphone because of the camera. I buy N8 and going to buy PV for lots of features that i needed and i cannot find on other phones like i mentioned in my previous post.
I think Nokia have did what they suppose to do with PV. I agree with you that higher resolution screen is better. But i can live without it as long as it can play 1080p videos.
Again, i don't think Belle is any where near to outdated. It is just lack of "cool" but not really that useful apps.
That was detailed long review. Here is a quick one page review http://pickadvice.com/nokia-808-pureview-41-megapixel-camera-phone/
Adamant, 28 Jun 2012No offense taken. The review actually is just one of the few reviews I read, but almost all of... moreWhy do we care on those review bias sites(The Verge,Mobile-review etc.?Im aware on Symbian's shortcoming and its lack of apps ecosystem(since I used the Maemo OS which was superb)but the main point use of this phone is to cater on camera lovers(those users who enjoy the outdoors and nature),not on couch potatoes(app lovers). The simplicity and easy to use of this phone was enough for casual Mobilr users.
Adamant, 28 Jun 2012Those websites used to admire Symbian a lot. I did to. I had so many Symbian Phones before, to... moreHave you red any of GSMA Belle-phone reviews? They said in this very review that Belle has caught up Android and iOS. Only what is behind is ecosystem.
I'm a bit Nokia fanboy but I still can face the facts. But when I looked for my first smartphone I tested Belle and I tested Android and I found nothing seriously better in Android, they were both good and my decision was Nokia because I wanted to support it. If there wouldn't have been N9 I would write by Symbian phone now.
Symbian^3 and Anna were behind others but that isn't same with Belle. It really is good. Or can you tell me some serious disadvantages in it besides ecosystem?
Jason, 28 Jun 2012Depends on what you mean by everyday use.
Other than taking top of the notch Photos and Video... moreAgreed with you. It has capability to delight everyday use with it's multiple useful function as smartphone. Not just smartphone that only 'smart' for entertainment.
Huh... USB on the go, practical offline navigation, sharing audio via FM transmitter, usefull out of the box apps, quality build, practical stunning camera, better power house management and many more.
I think those bashing this 808PV just who feel jealous about attention that mostly given on this phone. Even they also felt want to know more about this phone to see what they can influence as many people not to support Nokia's product anymore. They might not try this phone and pretend to comment like pro who knows more. Or they just proudly to be in a group which is on top right now and bashing who is not??
This is round up smart phone that can deliver many astonishing function in a sigle device. Open mind and stop being so fanatics about brand. Technology evolve and it's not only destined for certain brand only.
I have using Samsung droid, even Blackberry too. But not a fanatic. Every product has it's own advantage & disadvantage. Same also like us HUMAN... Who is perfect.. where as we were made by GOD. what do you expect things that made by HUMAN???? always perfect???
I don't understand, why GSMArena team didn't make the battery test for the nokia 808 PV?
Also is strange that none of the previoue symbian 3 has the battery test!!? Any thought guys????
Why do you need high resolution of the display? In real world almost all things have soft edges, if you look close, the letters of a book too. This the natural way, the most pleasant for the eye. A sharp display is unnatural, hurts the eye and affects the brain.
Adamant, 28 Jun 2012How can enjoy videos & photos with that low resolution screen?Everyday use means the smoot... morevideos and photos is not really a big issue(depends on personal preference though & one's eyesight. LOL)...but reading text is a problem...
since nokia made this as a camera phone, that resolution is best suited for it...its battery life is one of the issue..when you have more pixels, it drains off more battery...you need more battery when you are outdoors especially at night, the time when you need the flash & videolight(not to mention the need for an emergency call..LOL)
the OS is not really that ugly, though transitions & animations are not as good as android, what i really like are the icons(its like N9)& the home screen(it looks simple & practical)...apps are really a problem for me...hope skype videocall is available for it soon...
Sausage, 28 Jun 2012From what website was that? Because there is many of those that can't make an objective review... moreThose websites used to admire Symbian a lot. I did to. I had so many Symbian Phones before, touch & non-touch screen. But let's face it & be honest, this OS falls behind iOS & Androids now in terms of touch screen experience & many other things. GSMArena knows that & said that in many reviews. I don't think the 41 Megapixel can rectify the OS' shortcomings. Do you?

Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for A... moreFrom what website was that? Because there is many of those that can't make an objective review but thinks Android and iOS are the only way. They don't even try to look Symbian like it could be capable OS.
Nokia isn't even advertising this phone very much. It doesn't fully belong to their plan cause it's been on its way for 5 years, much before Mr Elops plans became and set Nokia to fall. Maybe only reason of not abandoning PureView was that it can be put in WP. Mr Elop doesn't have any expectations even on this kind of Symbian phone so Nokia surely isn't waiting for any high numbers of it's sale.
I'm exited to see what kind of numbers this is going to sell. If it gets to same numbers as N8 I'm sure it's over Nokias expectations. If it sells even as few as N9(600 000) did it will probably fulfil its duty in Nokias eyes.
Anonymous, 28 Jun 2012no offense to "Adamant"...my comments is towards the review of the one you posted...... moreNo offense taken. The review actually is just one of the few reviews I read, but almost all of them basically sound the same - Excellent Camera, Very Bad OS, Poor Screen Resolution. I'm just disappointed with this phone. It's been a while since Nokia came out with a good phone & I thought Nokia had a good chance with this one but they blew it up. But it doesnt mean I wont buy this. It's just that, Nokia could've done a lot better.
Adamant, 28 Jun 2012From other review sites : Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for A... moreno offense to "Adamant"...my comments is towards the review of the one you posted....but anyway, thanks for the post....it made us know that other sites are not that good in making objective reviews...though some are purely opinion, it should not persuade the readers in a negative way or to underrate a product...
Jason, 28 Jun 2012Depends on what you mean by everyday use. Other than taking top of the notch Photos and Video... moreHow can enjoy videos & photos with that low resolution screen?Everyday use means the smoothness & user-friendliness of the touch screen experience, those cool effects that Androids & IPhones have. Not to mention those cool applications that you can use everyday. You dont buy a cellphone because of the camera. Nokia should've done better with this phone by increasing the screen resolution or by using the Windows OS instead. But then again, it wont have USB mass storare & memory card support. But I think it's better like that than having an outdated, unfriendly & dull-looking OS.

Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for A... morethis is a bad press...totally....biased..
"Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for Apple's iPhone or Samsung's Galaxy S III or even Galaxy S II for that matter. "
= it needs to be specific. N808 for everyday has great battery life, the most legible screen in all weather conditions, straightforward interface for fast use, & much better reception & the best build quality (not better but the best, no need to question this).
"When you set the extraordinary camera aside there are phones that cost half as much as Nokia 808 and can perform better in everyday use."
=this is N808PV, it should be as it should be...please don't exclude the camera...if it can handle a great camera, it means that its no ordinary phone & can handle mostly anything...
"Nokia is making one of their last efforts to attract customers and provide the networks and their partners with something that can be advertised and sold."
= common sense..this a world of business...who would not want to sell more....not a last effort but a continued innovation & a strategy...take note that this technology was 5 years in the making...& it should be appreciated rather than saying that its a desperate move...
"At least in that case a 41 MP camera will probably make the sell easier than any possible reason to buy a Lumia Windows phone. I really think that Nokia 808 will find some buyers willing to spend the money needed to experience the difference of the 41 MP camera but I also think their numbers will be below Nokia expectations."
= you're making a conclusion already...& you are the only few who had handled the phone...let us see after it has been released worldwide...it may be below expectations, but imaging will never be the same...

Other than taking top of the notch Photos and Videos with superb sound quality,
I can listen to music with high quality player, i can watch 1080p HD videos, i can browse website with flash content, i can download youtube videos, i can whatsapp with my friends, i can do 3G video calls, i can use my N8 as a mass storage, i can copy my files to and fro from thumbdrive and my phone, i can use my turn by turn voice navigation, i can set different photos for different homescreen and many more.
There are so many things i cannot do with iphone like copy files to other devices without itunes, i cannot browse flash website, i cannot do 3G video calls...etc.
There are also many things i cannot do on droid phones like turn by turn voice navigation (at least not for now), i cannot set different photos for different homescreen, is there a youtube downloader? I hate the tedious steps to close a browser.. always need to back back back...etc.
Adamant, 28 Jun 2012From other review sites : Nokia 808's perfomance in everyday use is in no way a match for A... moreWhen you say "...41 Mpix camera" you compromise your reliabilty, because it's not a 41 Mpix camera, but a cameraphone with 41 Mpix sensor, from where one can utilize up to 38 Mpix.
