In my opinion Nokia's marketing team is making mistake after mistake.
The first one is actually Microsoft's fault by announcing WP8 earlier. This decided the faith of WP7.5 phones - nobody wants a phone with unclear future(it seems they didn't learn their lesson with N9 and 808). And that's too bad, because Lumia 800 is an amazing phone and its price is going down every day. And it looks much better than Lumia 820.
After that there is the fake photos and videos from the 920/820 event.
And then its the event itself. Why announce the phones now, when people could buy them after two months. Averybody will forget by then. And tomorrow Apple reveals iPhone 5 and steals the show (probably).
What were they thinking? "Yeah, don't buy Apple's latest and greatest, because two months later we will start selling something nobody has ever tried before, nobody tested and it might not work."
And now LG is copying (quite poorly actually) Nokia's style by talking about Optimus G battery, screen, camera, performance.
So what? In November Nokia will make some noise and everyone will tell: "Yes, we know! You told us years ago. Now be quiet while I play with my S III/iphone 5!"
I think Lumia 920 will sell in good numbers and it should!
However, i doubt it would kill the android/iOS. Also, calling wp8 crap or Lumia a dead phone is also quite baseless!
I think Nokia and WP would be a happy lot if they could be @10% market share by the end of 2013.
What goes with the Lumia:-
Amazing n different design (mostly people like it) - Now people can argue it looks like the n9 or lumia800 but guys think about it ... Lumia is still not a very popular phone and one of its positives has been the looks so why fiddle with it? (I can hardly see any difference in the looks of the s3 n note2...also if the leaks are correct new iphone looks ... meh!)
Signal strength, built quality of Nokia - Now the phone has not yet been released but this assumption is purely based on the past of Nokia. If i were to buy an android, i'd rather buy an HTC/Moto than samsung.
Chk this out
Better Battery - Though people can argue that AtivS has a bigger battery but my observation has been that Nokia batteries generally perform better and are long lasting. Its just not about the mAH reading but how to use it. (Ever seen two 1.5L engines producing different power/torque outputs coz of better use of technology). However, again this is an assumption and the real results would only be known when the phone is launched.
Not getting in the other details like the amazing screen, camera etc.
What goes against it:
Hmm.. no memory card slot - Well can be very important for many people but even the iphone was launched with a 16GB? version..This has 32GB + 7GB free on skydrive. For most of the users it should be enough.
Dual Core n 1GB Ram - Sadly people look more at numbers that the real performance. Lumia 800 was excellent when I used it on single core and 512mb ram. Its not a computer!
Less Apps - Agreed. But earlier due to the lack of multiple core support it was a major problem but now it should not be. Also, again number wise market place
has much less app but i think what matters is the number if USEFUL apps.
WP8- Most people seem to hate it for n number of reasons. What I loved about WP8 specially was the integration of social media in it. No need for an app. Check this out
Its a different OS with different capabilities!
Having said all of this, a lot depends on how the phone actually performs when its launched.
Also, it pretty hypocritical when people bad mouth WP8 for less options and crib when nokia offers the phone in different colors!
If you don't like a color don't buy it but speak for yourself only. By posting Statemnts like "Who would want that yellow color" you only make a fool out of yourself.
I for one would buy that color in absence of the Blue.
Also, its pretty sad reading comments like all wp8 has is a copy of android features. I think its called evolution. You learn, improve, implement. There are many features that age old mobiles have had which android also has. Its BS to call it a copy.
Last but not the least, GSM arena is a great forum and people actually visit this to get help in deciding what to buy. Let's make valid comments so that it would further improve the quality of this forum!
At the end of the day people would buy what they like but why say no to having more choice?
I am almost certain to buy a 920 unless there is something really wrong with the phone or the price is outrageous!
I have already been impressed by Lumia 800 wp7. Let's see what these are capable of when I can get one for a hands-on experience..
Just to show Lumia 920's camera capability
Lumia 920 vs Galaxy S3
Call quality - Nokia, pretty sure
Signal reception - Nokia, same as above
Build quality - Nokia
Design - Nokia
Camera - Nokia, Pureview with Optical Image Stabilization and best for low light shots.
Screen - Nokia, PureMotion HD+ is the most fluid, brightest, and the best for viewing outdoor with ClearBlack polarizer layer technology.
Audio recording - Nokia, HAAC Rich Recording with 3 distortion free high amplitude microphones.
Music quality through headphone jack - Leaning toward Samsung
Nokia is just helping to Microsoft pull up in the market. Recently Microsoft shifts its logo to square off. This would be Nokia'a new strategy.
Just worth phone in the market for windows lover.
i just sold my Lumia a month old.. the basic functionality; making call is too complicated. this is know by only who has been used or using Lumia. i agree about the build quality is good and even i browse internet more than 30 mins it doesn't get heat. And most frustrating is making calls and to cut the calls. As proximity sensor has problem in lumia. there is not way to cut call.
I recommend Samsung with Android, The Best. but limit your application getting installed.
AnonD-50083, 09 Sep 2012To all the Android fans who think market share shows that Android is what people actually want... moreYeah..100% agree....android is just lucky because of good timing...if nokia can come up with symbian belle at the same time with android, I'm very sure android will never be as it's position today.
like to shout and say 2 things:
1) it is not Mr. Elop's 'personal' decision to continue with Windows
2)android and windows are different - lets' not compare and bash each other.
not a troll,
AnonD-50083, 09 Sep 2012To all the Android fans who think market share shows that Android is what people actually want... moreYour right that the only reasons Android got popular because it was the only option for the carrier against the iPhones and Android is available at every carrier and prepaid carriers.
Lumia 920 vs Galaxy S3
Call quality - Nokia no doubt
Signal reception - Nokia too
Build quality - Nokia
Design - Nokia
Camera - Nokia PureView
Screen - Nokia PureMotion HD+
Audio recording - Nokia (3 special High Amplitude Mics)
Sound quality through headphone - Most likely Samsung
Copy of iPod nano, 09 Sep 2012Apple will sue NOKIA for copying design of iPod nano Lumia's design is pure copy of iPod nanoAre u blind?
Nokia should release the products to the markets earlier than Nov 2nd because by the time Nokia new Products are seen on the markets, the Next iPhone will be already in Stores and millions of these device might alreary conquer customers' interest, so Nokia will find it hard to compete against Apple again. Customers always want things early. It's boring to wait especially when they have alternatives like iPhone, Galaxy S3 and some others like this. Moreover, in the current trends I found out that most people want the Dual Sim Phones, especially customers in Asia like my country here or China. It would be great to have a Dual Sim of WP8 Platform from Nokia. (However, quality of Dual Sim ans Single Sim will differ) Being a Nokia fan for long time, I really like to see Nokia becomes a ruling would of Mobile again.
i love this phone...my next phone .....this oct. or dec. i hope much better is early...feature is awesome.... my god.. i cant wait.. i busy reading a nice comment...go nokia go...
To all the Android fans who think market share shows that Android is what people actually want:
I used Android 2.1 (Eclair) on HTC Legend for a month, when my Sony Ericsson W700 broke. That was the second version of Android, and it was so incomplete, so unfinished and haphazard that I couldn't take it. Didn't even have a proper "notes" app. The messaging was a NIGHTMARE to use. I gave it up and went back to the Java on Sony Ericsson J20 (Hazel) which is MUCH more user-friendly and easy to use, and has all the bases covered.
Now I've worked with WP7. As the first version of the OS, it was orders of magnitude above Android. The 7.5 made it an almost complete OS in comparison. Android is now complete, but the same old, outdated "desktop" mode plus the lack of proper organization, simplicity and ease of use still exists today.
Android is now ubiquitous only because of good timing on Google's part, and bad decisions from Microsoft which should've let Windows Mobile go 2 years sooner.
It was pure luck, and not actual quality that helped Android get to where it is today.
Hopefully Windows Phone gets introduced properly to the unwitting masses with such eye catching hardware as the 920, and actual quality will be valued by people eventually.
great job nokia.
PureMotion HD+ is the best screen display.
does it mean PureMotion HD+ better than Sony Bravia Engine?
Does, Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 support flash player or silver light support in browser?
