So it is just as good on camera - maybe better - even though its a lot smaller now, it has a battery that last forever (also in such a tiny package), It is as fast as anything on market CPU wise - its even faster GPU wise, then the screen colour reproduction and contrast is as good as anything - maybe the best on the market -and now its bigger. Its really light in your hand, its very durable (although might get scratched up easy on the metal parts), and it now has LTE on it and dual band wifi (a/g/n etc), and it has made everything a bit nicer and cleaner in the UI..
BUT its maps app sucks (and apparently always has anyway which is the whole reason Apple wanted out - they might as well start from scratch on the painful road since Google was giving them a dud version..). And look, the new Apple maps I believe has the vector graphics, loads very quickly, will incorporate turn by turn navigation, and has that crazy fly over.. I guarantee in the future Apple maps will be competitive - at the very least.
So you think looking at the above points which one is most important to you? Is it the Maps? get something else for now... either on the App store, or another phone.
iPhone is not supposed to be cheap and affordable. If that is a problem for you look elsewhere. Dont hate a brand cause its good and out of your reach. Work harder so you can get it!
Its like a Subaru WRX and a BMW 325.
WRX is much cheaper, and faster but it is all plastic and doesnt have the class factor. I personally dont care, I used to have WRX, i cant afford a BMW - but you have to be real with yourself. BMW is nicer.. even if its slower, not as cool whatever.. But when you sit in a BMW you realise what its all about.
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2012808: http://www.esato.com/phonephotos/cam/nokia/808_pureview/201209290450jWr6Yx.jpg iphone ... moreWhy are you comparing the IP5's camera with Nokia 808's camera which has proven to be light years away from any other smartphone camera??? It has even beated a micro four-third camera, so it is non-sense to compare Nokia 808's camera with a smartphone camera...
I would like to put out the theory that Apple may not just be using different screen suppliers for the iPhone 5, but possibly different speakerphone suppliers. I had a friends iPhone 5 to play with and when I tested the same Youtube clip at max volume on both devices at the same time, her iPhone 5 was noticeably louder than my 4S. However, a day later I tried the same experiment with another new iPhone 5 from my lawyer...and the same Youtube clip at max volume was a little softer than my iPhone 4S, definitely much quieter than what I heard the previous day... is anyone else finding the same thing?
After reading your review , I said to my self, Toto , stay with your IPhone 4S.
And this scratching is honnestly a bad thing for the device.
There are no big difference to move on.
One of the most balanced pieces on the iPhone that I have ever read. Thank you for calling it like you see it. Maybe this will remove the wool from the iSheep's eyes.
So relieving that the iphone 5 improvement over iphone 4s is not so big deal. Why? Because im an iphone 4s user. And definitely I am staying!!!
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2012buy it 1st then commentAdd another fanboi mantra "you can't afford it". Grow up, then comment.
let the loyal apple fanboys buy it....I am better off with a note2 or optimus G.plz gsmarena review the optimus G.it has very few disadvantages.apple's products have closed ecosystem, same boring UI & lacks tons of features that I think apple would add in the 9th iphone.
the optimus G is expected to be priced around 800$ considering optimus vu II was priced 835$.
iphone is not worth the 1000$ it is priced for..its probably good buy at 600$ no more than that
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2012Creds to GSMArenas reviewers for not being forgiving about iphones many restrictions and lack ... moreWOW! look at the Main disadvantages
This is probably on of the worst smartphones on the market..... And it overpriced too.
cant believe people still buy this crap in this age. They really need to learn to save money.
Creds to GSMArenas reviewers for not being forgiving about iphones many restrictions and lack of functionality. Its a OK review, i had expected the conclusion to be soft and forgiving but things actually kindof hardened up instead, facts were effectively banged down into good points.
ANSON , 29 Sep 2012GSM Arena , i found that , still missing highlight the IOS 6 Safari feature , which can upl... moreAnd that was all it took to impress you ahaha. You would really emphasize that? Seriously? Spend 15 minutes with an S3 or optimus G and youll find AT LEAST 20 software things to highlight, and maybe 19 of them would be more significant. Even the chinese brands has compareable software tricks up their sleeves.
AnonD-36731, 29 Sep 2012Great hardware. The apps centric UI will never be for me and as someone who was in this marke... morehello sir
Apple doesn't make any hardware of its own
the screen comes from LG and Sharp electronics
until the 4s the processor was supplied by Samsung
so if you are going to count the innovative back panel that allows you to leave your own identity on your device
I won't blame you
AnonD-73776, 29 Sep 2012"Secondly, the iPhone 5 is arguably the best looking of all the smartphones around" ... moreVery true, the ip4, and even 4s, was beautiful phones, for their times. Bu bringing out the same design again, now, when it even looks too tall because of the location of the front camera, is an anachronism, this design is so outdated and used up, its really a toilet paper roll with only one wipe left.
Its gay to say that this is still a great design. Hopelessly outdated. Beats the S3 design but if that was the goal then apple been aiming far below its target. Creds to samsung for going all the way to create a new design, even if its a bad design, at least they tried, while apple just copied themselves ONCE AGAIN!
feels like im reading the iphone 4 and iphone 4S review all over again... ZZZZZzzZZzzzz boring no innovation here.
"Secondly, the iPhone 5 is arguably the best looking of all the smartphones around" Gsmarena what is going on here, you seriously read before posting online. This is so biased I dnt even want to know who wrote this please edit this stupid line in your article. This is so unreal from you.
kevinkyle, 29 Sep 2012i never thought there would be a review of the iphone5 - that is not afraid to be brutally hon... moreI do have to question as to why "The new display is not proportionally bigger, but only taller" made the cons list. GSMarena's has a bias towards massive phones. It is silly for a phone site to act like a large screen fanboy and put such a comment as a con.
Why didn't the comment about the lack of customisation available in the UI make the cons list instead?
They mention it on page 4 "Although it's a standard-setting homescreen, it is not absolutely impossible to improve on - widgets, for one, could have made the right difference for some users." but it didn't make the cons list?
It is arguably the biggest drawback of the iPhone.
But yes, good review GSMarena.
