Yeah.. Sony has pretty design, but the screen socks big time, I've seen it for myself. Colors are washed out compared to Last year flagship.
And cmon people, quit comparing xz to htc one.. The one is miles ahead of xz in all aspects but IP57. There is a reason xz is compared directly to butterfly after all.

If only the Xperia Z screen had better contrast and viewing angles, it would have been a decisive victory over HTC Butterfly/DNA.

Looking at the scores and not beeing so hype on the big screens, I'd go for the Optimus G.

What is good to xperia Z, design? They just copied LG Optimus G and added with dust and water resist feature. Display. .. nah! Performance!? How about the price. ... 2nd to A or first? The only I regret from HTC dna is batt capacity for it size and exclusivity to Verizon. Let's see which gonna climb to top at the end of the year, enjoy your gadget. :-)

Of course XZ wins, butterfly was a rushed model to fill in a gap, until the real flagship arrives.
In order to become currently available, both phones used current tech, the latest CPU would mean further delays, as the HTC ones showed, that would mean direct competition with S4 and neither Sony or HTC could deal with that, so what they wanted to do is profit for the breaf moment they overtook S3 and just before S4 arrives.
Regarding the XZ, its staying power is that it has no great flaes overall, the CPU already is overwhelming and might only become an issue 2 years from now,
the screen is not reflective and because of that sun legibility is far better than the average, yes the contrast is not very high, Sony claims that they wanted realistic colours and thats why they call it reality. Its a matter of taste, older businessmam prefer realistic colors, younger children prefer the cartoony Amoled aproach.
In my opinion for the pics its better to be realistic, for the games its better to be flashy.
But what i really wanted to try out the first moment i got the Z in my hands, was theviweing angles, although it shouldnt be a matter on mobiles, but in living room TVs...and well, there is absolutely no angle you can hold Z, that doesnt allow you to read everything on screen, in angles > 120 degrees the contrast decreases further more just a bit though, maybe 5-10% and compared to an Amoled, it looks less impressive, but thats about it, this matter does not affect the use of phone at any kind of conditions, i dont know if this matter has been blown out of proportion on purpose, just to fool the potential customers who dont have an on hands opportunity, or really because there is no other serious issue one would mention.
The only real disadvantage is the relatively lower speaker, this could be a problem for ppl with hearing issues in open spaces.
But this is a slight compromise one has to pay, for the resistance on humidity and dust, which happens to be the bane of every mobile > 2 years old.
So just because of that, if you plan to make an investment in such a high price range and are likely to keep your phone for more than two years, in order to avoid the technical issues humidity will inevitably bring, there is no other option but the XZ.
It should be mandatory for the high class flagships from now on and the already are rumors that more flagships will have that premioum feature (like the next Google flagship, the Motorola X)

One last thing. Sony's water resistance is useless unless you want to sink your over hot ph in a water tank to cool down. And dust resistance is useless unless you live in a desert ;-)

I don't think Sony is a winner here. Butterfly has better screen, more stylish design with red accents, fingerprint proof polycarbonate unibody and very much better audio quality with beats audio. If you have Beats headset, it will be a perfect match. Also, butterfly will get sense 5 and make it much better. Sony has poorest screen and can't match to HTC's SLCD, Samsung's AMOLED and LG's IPS screen. Also Sony has laggy UI on Previous phones. HTC WINS!!!!!
