I really can get how you couldn't notice lags on this sample HTC One video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5EuNtqqgRK8
For me it's obvious. Look at slight loss of frames of car while they are getting closer to the camera. That absolutely disqualifies HTC One for me.
Anonymous, 25 May 2013 Of course the S4 lags. Every Android phone lags at some time. Every app/feature of the OS has... moreThat's not all Androids. That's all phones, os's, and computer systems alike.
Also just some other info, the small gap on top/bottom between the speaker grill and white plactic was there on 4 of the devices I viewed, I needed Rogers to order a new one for me where as I did not want dust going in the small crack to mess up the speaker etc over the next 3 years, Best Buy rep told me all the units they have has the gap, went to AML, there demo unit was fine, one they tried to sell me did have the gap, ordered me a new one and we are all set, I felt I can wait and get one from the new shipment but unsure on how the whole mic situation plays a factor with Nokia getting the injunction. Does anyone know if that will effect global shipments or just one region? I would rather have a tiny gap and the mic then no gap and no high amp mic, if you drop this bad boy without a case shes done for sure so case it up and no more tiny crack.
Alright so I have done it and upgraded to the HTC One from my iPhone, speakers are serious, power button placed a little odd but will need more time to get used to it, the camera is better then what I was thinking it would be, nothing special but gets the job done and has some cool settings within. HTC sync right off the bat asked if I wanted to transfer from a iPhone I clicked yes and we are all set, so far so good guys!
MaximusL, 24 May 2013And why no one ever mentions one very disappointing fault in galaxy s4-s display? It smears! J... more Of course the S4 lags. Every Android phone lags at some time. Every app/feature of the OS has a small amount of RAM allotted, and it cannot us more than that amount. When it uses it up, it lags. Obviously Android needs more optimisation, buy otherwise both it and the S4 are excrllent.
KS, 22 May 2013This comparison, while thorough and seemingly unbias seems odd to me. Every other review I re... moreIt's obvious you love the One. However AMOLED screens are better than LCDs, and low resolution means bad photos in any light conditions, no matter how big the pixels. It's only that the S4 made good photos unreliably, and other One reviews didn't pixel peep, they just said photos looked right. If you like the One, buy it and don't use the camera, that's all.
dowla, 24 May 2013which one is better?o htc one or s4 or xz or iphone? It's in this order S4>xperiaZ>One>>>iPhone5. The iPhone is just a featurephone with an appstore, the others are smartphones.
If you want to keep your phone secure with a pin or a password, do not buy the S4 just yet:
Connecting your phone to your car bluetooth, you won't be able to use voice commands once your phone locks. You will have to key in the pin/password which kind of defeat the whole purpose of hands-free device while driving.
There is support for widgets on the "lock" screen, but only if it is not really locked. Once you put in a PIN or a password, you lose all these widgets. The whole reason for widgets on the lock screen is that some basic functions, like camera, will be immediatly accessible without having to type the password. If you can unlock the phone with the swype of a finger, when it is not protected, then I don't really see the need for these widgets.
I could confirm that on the HTC One you have the option to access the camera and view your calendar when the phone is password protected without having to unlock the phone. Unfortunately I couldn't verify if I can use voice commands with bluetooth when the phone is locked. They wouldn't let me take the phone out to my car or drive my car into the store. Can any one else check this?
Planning to return my Galaxy unless Samsung issues an update before my 14 days return period ends.
I had the opportunity to have both the one and gs4 and used it to test it on my crazy heavy usage and depending on which was better I was going to return one of them. I'm mainly a gamer / streaming video kinda guy. And after extensive testing my results are as follows.
I give the better display to the htc one but just slightly. The gs4 had the bigger screen on the similar footprint but the htc one just had a gorgeous screen, just plain sexy. But the gs4 was not far behind on display beauty.
Audio hands down Htc one. That front speakers weren't as loud as I had hoped but the quality was leaps and bounds above anything else.
Features I gave to the gs4 and I know many of them are gimmicky but some are useful and very helpful.
Camera I gave a very slight advantage to the gs4 only because the details in the shots were very apparent, had htc gone with even a 6 mega pixel.
camera I feel it might have been a different story.
Battery life was overwhelmingly gs4. I know many reviews have them both at around the same battery life but for me I was getting around 30-35% more battery life out of a full charge with the gs4. And trust me I did plenty of testing on the battery. It almost seems as if the hotter the htc one got the faster it drained and at times it got really hot.
Build quality I don't care about much because I'm going to slap a good case on it and protect it and I probably won't notice it. But for what it counts the htc one wins that.
And ultimately I chose the GS4. And the deciding factor was battery life. Had the Htc one had similar battery life in the things I do with my usage pattern it would have been the one I chose I believe but still would have been close. even now at times I miss that phone but don't regret the decision.
And why no one ever mentions one very disappointing fault in galaxy s4-s display? It smears! Just google for galaxy s4 screen smearing as well as something like flickering on white or light grey background?!
This particular model of samsung is very disappointing to say the least. Apart from that faulty display, which I think already is a hardware issue not a software issue at all. There are plenty of software issues aswell.
First of all phone reboots itself somatimes when launching camera! It IS a whidespread issue!
The second issue which is samsungs firmware issue aswell is contacts and phone apps lag!!! It was in galaxy s2 and it is still there in galaxy s4.
I'm gonna re4turn my galaxy s4 and buy something else.. Not HTC ONE either because of no sd card slot and not so good camera (trust me I tested both cameras and galaxy s4 camera is way superior in most conditions)
Yuvraj , 20 May 2013HTC One is the Best smartphone Ever...! Sans the horrible camera. And dont say that nobody does pixel peeping, because many do. Nice phone, HTC said, lets ruin the camera.

This comparison, while thorough and seemingly unbias seems odd to me. Every other review I read named named the HTC one has having the more accurate screen and performing better in the daylight. And yet you're claiming the exact opposite.
I really only came here for the camera comparison and only doubled back to the screen portion when I read your conclusion on the screens in the final summary. And I have to say that the camera portion seemed odd when it got to the video - as from my eyes the HTC one's video seemed far better than the S4's in low light, and yet the s4 was named the winner.
Also just about every other comparison since the update has named the HTC one the clear winner in low light conditions and I noticed your low light samples only consisted of outside, and not indoor settings.
Decent review, but had me scratching my head in a few places as to what to really expect out of these phones.

There are some more HTC favored people that put the One ahead. If you look into the detail and something is better than how is the other ahead?????
