And no they are simply not equal at all. At 5mp the virtual pixel size of the 1020 is more than 3 microns (something around 3.2). It combines 7 pixels for that single pixel. The 808 at 5 mp shot at over 4 microns. The Z1 is no where near that level.

And to GSMARENA, this review, with all it's emotions, was well worth the long wait.
I just wish the deal with Microsoft fails though.
I don't want to see Nokia as a Microsoft product. It's just too sad.

And to the one who said:

Of course it is, because pixel binning reduces noise and improves color accuracy(but doesn't improve dynamic range at all).
I could say as well: Lumia 1020 5mp picture = Xperia z1 5mp picture, because the lens is the bottleneck on both, and both have similar sized pixels(1.12 and 1.17 microns, respectively).

Great phone and I salute Nokia for pushing phone photography innovation to it's limits... It was hard choosing between this and z1 but in the end I ordered the z1 this morning. What pushed me for the z1 was the beautifull design, waterproof (some may laugh but personally it's important as I work near water as a lifeguard) and the OS. Windows phone is ok but I like the prersonalization of android to much to switch.
The quality of the 1020 camera almost sold me but in the end I just wan't to have a decent camera when I take a quike shot with my phone. When I need high quality photos I have a dSLR.
Anyway I wish nokia the best and again cheers for pureview :)

I had preordered it a... moreI'm just saying you are doing direct conversion,prices are different for different countries......i think price tag equal to iphone5 and s4 is in any way unreasonable for this phone....

I liked Nokia's designs back when they made innovative phones about ten years ago. But this 41MP device (camera? phone?) is overkill and more than most consumers will ever need. Uploading 41MP stills to Facebook/Twitter/wherever would eat your monthly data plan in a day!!

The sentimental last page had my tears out. A great phone from the greatest phone maker. Good buy Nokia... you will always remain as the king of mobile phone manufacturers in your fans heart.

I had preordered it at a local store before they revealed the price (you can preorder stuff here by a €100 prepayment which you can use for sth else if change mind later), but when they made sure the price i cancelled it. I found it cheaper on ebay, but now that 1520 has made me very curious, so i' m waiting a month more

Gsm arena be serious! extra cover for wireless charging as disadvantage? Yes, maybe if we consider Lumia 920. But that's only one! What else has wireless charging capability? Is it a standard in mobile phones world? I don't think so.
