Rumor: Samsung has started mass production of next-gen foldables, except for the tri-fold model

Samsung Android Rumors

Samsung has been producing certain components for the upcoming Galaxy Z series since mid-February, claims leakster Max Jambor, and now mass production of the actual phones is starting.

Max reports that the B7 display will measure 161.57 x 69.96mm. “B7” is an internal name for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, just like the B6 was the Z Flip6. That works out to a 176mm diagonal, slightly larger than the 170.3mm diagonal of the Z Flip6 (mind you this doesn’t account for the rounded corners). Indeed, the Z Flip7 is reported to have a 6.85” inner display, up from 6.7” on its predecessor, plus a roomier 4” cover display (which goes edge to edge, unlike the 3.4” display of the Z Flip6).

So far, so good, but Max also has some bad news – Samsung’s triple foldable still hasn’t gone into mass production. Samsung has been making components for it since the end of March, but it hasn’t started building actual phones yet. The tri-fold device is internally known as Q7M, but it is expected to adopt the Galaxy G Fold name when it reaches retail.

This isn’t necessarily an indication that something is wrong, mind you. We’ve been hearing that the Samsung tri-fold will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, but will only be available in a couple of countries and only a limited number of units will be built, 200,000, if rumors are to be believed. In other words, there’s no need to get an early start on production. For context, even the Galaxy Z Flip FE is expected to move 900,000 units and the Galaxy Z Fold7 will aim for 3 million.
