D900 VS. D900i !!!
here is a short comparison between D900 and D900i, for those of you who try picking one of the models and simply do not have all the facts.
before the comparison i have to make a few statements:
1. i am no expert (just someone with good intentions who wants to help) so do not take all that i write as pure facts.
2. i want to thank Rajesh who patiently explained many of the differences to me.
3. if you have any info to contradict what i wrote, please correct me so those who read this forum will have the full picture.
4. i tried to order according to priority, though this is totally subjective of course.
D900i advantages comparing to D900:
1. FW radio.
2. better looks - Metallic/Titanium frame (this is a matter of taste of course).
3. Whisper mode (already discussed here).
4. Better/clearer font is used (only few references of this enhancement).
5. new camera UI (this "enhancement" is not last for nothing:-).
D900i disadvantages comparing to D900:
1. No way to install JAVA apps (and particularly games) from a PC.
2. No document/Picsel viewer.
3. No way to zoom pictures in full screen.
4. no way to view pictures in full screen if thier resolution does not match the phone's resolution i.e. came from a PC.
* note issues #3 & #4 are symptoms of issue #2.
5. No easy way to view missed events when phone is locked and screen is in standby mode (D900 had a the volume as a shortcut key).
6. no call/conversation recorder.
7. no slide tone.
* i admit #6 and #7 have very few indications and may be wrong.
NOTE that there are two enhancements Samsung claim to have on the D900i and does not seem to be present:
1. Better battery life.
2. Shorter/better camera shutting.
Some people argue samsung messed up with the D900i new disadvantages, i personally think they did at least part of it on purpose - in order not to cannibalize the D900 product - their GSM association winner of best handset.
Got rid of my o2 stealth....n bought this .. D900i..it has a summary of all gud features of most phones ..but the frame aint metal :/ ...its some metallic coating ..m sure it will wear off..in a couple months !..also cant find any themes n stuff for it :(.. n not able to open docs .
it is a good fone...i'm very impressed...i was choosing between a couple of fones..and decided to go for this one because it is good for its price....i would recommend this fone to anyone
Did anyone managed to install JAVA games from the PC directly via Bluetooth or USB?
there are some argues that it is possible using a new code (*#52828378#) but most people argue it is not working.
in case someone managed to do it with a D900i please let us all know.
this is a critical option for me and i am about to purchase this phone.
10x in advance.
Here is what i think of this phone as owning one. The phone is a stunning thing to look at and hold. Its large LCD expresses the colour really well and i can by far say its the clearest screen on a phone i have seen on the market today. The phone is jam packed with features that cant disappoint. To be honest if your buying the phone just for its 3MP camera i would be careful. The camera does not perform great in poor lighting conditions but when there is plenty of light you find the camera very impressive. The Auto Focus on the camera is comparable if not better then some of the Sony Ericssons. I found taking photos of text and other photos came out great and were well focused. Battery life not so good when you get the phone but when it has its good 1st few charges the battery lasts an exceptional duration. Because of how slim this phone is, it is a great phone to carry in your pocket as it does not feel annoying and it is a very light weight phone. One feature of this phone that really impressed me was something called Uplus environment. This is a wallpaper that shows a high quality animated photo of a big monument depending what country you are in. For eg; If you live in Ausrtalia you will see the Sydney Opera house. If you were to travel to USA the wallpaper would change to Statue of Liberty. The sky in the animation changes depending what time of day it is so it can be light during the day and dark at night time. You will also notice some birds that fly by and shooting stars at night.
Overall this is an exellent by and a bang for your bucks at its great price. I would highly recommend this if you are in need of a new phone.
In total: it seems that D900i is a good cell phone, but I think you need to have relax nerve in using this phone.
It's nearly one month that I'm using this phone but in average I have 10 resets per dar by this phone automatically.
It's not differ to using which facility of menu,it reset the phone in first selection of each menu per day.i.e:when i want to call, when i want to send sms, when i want to listen to music when i ....,
is it a disaster or not?
please help me if u have any information to resolve the problem.
wanna ask.. if is it able to still charge d900i using usb connected to PC.. if the pc did not install the samsung program??
cos i tried .. but doesnt seem to charge when the PC dun hv tat program..
Samsung argue that they improved the battery life on the D900i, but i never heard about anyone making a real test to examine this.
Yetti, there is no better or worst.
it depends what it important to you.
D900 main advantage is the document viewer.
D900i main advantages are the FM radio and the titanium frame addition.
if you only want the phone for texting messages, i think the differences are meaningless for you.
you should choose according to looks (that you can easily see on youtube) and according to the price.
Dunno if mentioned but is the D900i better than D900? i just want a slim nice looking phone for calling and texting and pics here and there. I have someone willing to sell me his D900i used for a month for $275 Canadian with original everything is that worth it? or better off getting D900? Please reply Quickly
for the person who left the long comment on the last youtube link (without leaving a name):
i do not see any contradiction between the honestly many bugs and issues that you have listed and the fact that this phone may be amazing and highly recomended.
personally, i consider buying this phone althogh all the issues that you have detailed.
first, any featured phone has many bugs and issues - i am also sure the smartphone you use to have, had lots of those.
second i do not think there are any better (or even equal) alternative to the D900i that encapsulate:
- a great and appealing design and looks.
- small and practical measurements.
- big display in proportion to the phone's size.
- one of the high quality displays availabe.
- one of the best cameras (though less good than SE k800 and probably also Nokia N73).
- great music features to include sterio blutoth, radio and background music.
- Quad-band connectivity.
- bluetooth 2.0 support.
- totally cool modes like flight mode and whisper modes.
- Cool features like uTrack and uPlus.
- great UI.
and the list is long...
BTW JAVA games can be uploaded from the PC - the code for this operation was already found and descussed in this forum.
i think the D900 was not chosen as best handset by GSM association by mistake.
i also think this phone is an upgrade for the D900, although the omitted document viewer.
i do not want you to get me wrong - i thank you for posting and tring to help, i just think you should be very happy with the phone you own (after some real market research i still think it is the best there is - well, at least for me).
The earlyer review (the one just below) is about the YouTube review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58E0iHPw4L0
that someone posted earlyer.
Just to clear things out.
I can't belive no one has commented on this yet!
I usually don't post comments, but I just couldn't help myself: you have to know the truth!
This must have been this guy's first real life encounter with this device, otherwise I just can't explain the review he's given. I've had this phone for one month now and I'm seriously considering changing it for something else. You're going to find a lot of reviews that state the poor quality of this phone, but I'm not telling you this because I've read them, it's because I'm actually using the thing and I can tell you from my personal experience. Don't be fooled - the display is good in terms of picture quality (I have to admit it displays good colors), but it actually died twice on my phone (went black, don't know if the menus were still responding), looked like a light bulb going out. The camera is again good at first glance, it takes good pictures in good lighting conditions (but tends to add a green hue around the edges), but it's night mode is awfull to say the least, and the flash is there for nothing, it doesnt help in any way. It does have a very good macro mode, though - I actually took pictures of my fingerprint and could see a lot of detail - once again in good lighting conditions.
He also said the phone is "jammed with features"... I'm sory, maybe it's because my last phone was a WM2003 Smartphone, but this phone IS NOT impressive when it comes to features, and the ones it has are not that great either. To give you a few examples: the music player supports a maximum of 4 playlists (not simultaneously) with max 29 (not 30) songs per list (so that's 116 songs in total) - you can put more on your card, but you have to take some extra steps if you want to listen to songs that didn't fit the playlists. The picture viewer is horrible - you can pan, zoom or watch in fullscreen ONLY the photos you take with the phone and ONLY if you leave them in My Pictures folder on the phone's internal memory. And if you have pictures on your memory card, you can only watch them ONE AT A TIME in the viewer, then exit and choose another from the file browser. One thing that really puzzles me is why the voice recorder is actually worse than the video sound recorder (wich actually records sounds quite well and at considerable distances).
He mentions there is Java(TM) on the phone - true (can't argue there), but you can forget about uploading from your computer, as the phone does't open java archives uploaded this way (in my opinion it's a way to make you go to your wap browser and BUY stuff), and all the games are just demos (and they're not so brilliant when it comes to graphics, either). All this if, of course, you can get the software that comes with the phone (PC Studio 3.1.11) to work, as the phone just won't connect to the pc via USB, even after properly installing the drivers it comes with (I'm guessing this is an incompatibility between the programs installed on the PC and the USB drivers for the phone, as it worked the first time I installed it, then I had to reinstall Windows(TM), after wich it no longer worked, although I did the exact same thing when installing the software as the first time).
So mabye you don't care about all this function-related stuff (keep in mind the faulty display, though), mabye you just want a phone that looks good in you hand, right? But wouldn't it be nice if you could also say that it's a fairly robust, reliable phone? - wich it's anything but! He said the slider is very solid... again, WHAT? Yes, it does seem that way at first, but give 2 or 3 weeks and it already starts to move out of place slightly (not much, but still...)
Oh and, one more thing that I think you'll consider pretty important: the battery lasts for incredibly short periods of time - in fact, if you charge it in the morning, then during the day you listen to about 1 hour of music in total (wich means about 10 - 15 songs), take 10 - 20 pictures and talk for roughly 20-30 mins in total, you'll have to recharge again for the next day, because it won't last.
All in all, it's a poor quality phone with too many flaws and not enough to compensate with. I don't recomend you buy it. By the looks of the one I own, it won't last very long, very few and poor features, weak battery and I'm sure I could mention a few more, but I think what I pointed out so far should be enough to give you a picture.
Hope this helped and if you feel differently... good luck to you.
Im very nervous. I need to buy a new phone and dont know whether I should choose this phone or the Nokia 6300.After reading all the comments about the Nokia6300 and it's battery life.... What does anyone think about this phone? I want to log onto my emails from the phone. Can i do it?
For those of you who did not buy the phone yet and are considering it - here is the first real video review where you can see how the phone really looks like on moving picture:
