When your Windows Phone is first set up, its internal storage and SD card are combined and recognized as one storage system.
You should not remove the SD card in your phone or replace it with a new one because your Windows Phone will not work properly. Existing data on the phone may be lost, and that SD card can't be used in other devices or Windows Phones.
NOTE: Only Certified for Windows Phone 7 MicroSD cards can be used. For more information, visit the Windows Phone Help site.
To insert a memory card, hold the device securely. Grab the back cover from the gap in the bottom middle of the device. Pull up firmly. Then unhinge the cover from the top tab and remove completely. Remove the battery.
Locate the MicroSD card slot. Insert the MicroSD card into the slot with its gold contacts facing down. Slide the MicroSD card completely into the slot.
Align the battery's exposed copper contacts with the battery connectors inside the battery compartment. Insert the battery, contacts side first, and then gently push the battery into place.
Replace the back cover by inserting the tabs inside the back cover into the holes on the top panel of the phone. Press the phone against the back cover until it clicks into place.
To format the memory card:
Simultaneously press and hold the CAMERA button, VOLUME DOWN key, and POWER key.
Once the phone vibrates, release the POWER key while still holding down the CAMERA and VOLUME DOWN keys.
When the "Format" prompt is displayed on screen, release the CAMERA and VOLUME DOWN keys, and then press the key.
NOTE: Formatting erases all user data stored on the phone and on the memory card. Once the format is completed, the Initial setup will be displayed.
Verify the available memory has been updated by tapping Settings > About.

hey bhaskar thanks dude but there is also one more issue my samsung focus is not recognizing my class 4 transcend memory card which 4gb and it already has lots of songs and videos. and also let me know guys the procedure to put new memory card pls............URGENT HELP PLS

And if you are in India we use 2100 band for 3G, even if there is a reforming it will happen in 850 Band only hence wont be a problem..

I found this phone on dealxtreme and it says that it supports only WCDMA2100MHZ 3g network. But according to the info shown in gsmarena it also supports 850 and 1200. Can somebody tell me this is right? Thanx!

dencio, 31 Jul 2012can sum1 help me....i cnt send files thru my blutoot with other android phones....i917 doesnt have HW that supports Bluetooth FTP... So u cant transfers files. Bluetooth can be used for audio device sync though..
